# Bulk Domain Lookup: RDAP (WHOIS) Expiry + DNS + SPF/DMARC (`mrlarryjohnson/domain-rdap-dns-lookup`) Actor

Check thousands of domains at once: registrar, creation and expiry dates, days until expiry, status, nameservers and DNSSEC from official RDAP (the modern WHOIS), plus A/AAAA/MX/NS/TXT/CAA records and SPF/DMARC presence. No contact/personal data is collected.

## Pricing

from $2.00 / 1,000 domain checkeds

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Bulk Domain Lookup: RDAP (WHOIS) Expiry + DNS + SPF/DMARC

Check up to 10,000 domains per run and get one clean row each:

- **Registration (RDAP, the official successor to WHOIS):** registered yes/no, registrar and IANA ID, created/updated/**expires** dates, **days until expiry**, EPP status codes, nameservers, DNSSEC
- **DNS:** A, AAAA, MX, NS, TXT and CAA records
- **Email authentication:** SPF present? DMARC policy (`none` / `quarantine` / `reject`)?

The registry endpoint for each TLD is found through IANA's RDAP bootstrap registry, so lookups go to the authoritative source. They don't come from a scraped WHOIS website.

### Use cases

- **Domain portfolio / brand protection:** find domains expiring in the next 30/60/90 days (sort by `daysUntilExpiry`)
- **IT and agency audits:** spot missing DMARC/SPF, missing CAA records or DNSSEC off across many client domains
- **Availability checks:** `registered: false` means the registry has no record of the domain
- **Migrations:** snapshot DNS before and after a change

### Input

| Field | Default | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| `domains` | — | Domains or full URLs; `https://www.shop.example.co.uk/page` becomes `example.co.uk` |
| `includeRdap` | `true` | Registration data |
| `includeDns` | `true` | DNS + SPF/DMARC |
| `concurrency` | `8` | Lower it if you get `RATE_LIMITED` rows |

### Output example

```json
{
  "domain": "wikipedia.org", "registered": true, "registrar": "MarkMonitor Inc.", "registrarIanaId": "292",
  "createdAt": "2001-01-13T00:12:14Z", "expiresAt": "2027-01-13T00:12:14Z", "daysUntilExpiry": 86,
  "status": ["client delete prohibited", "client transfer prohibited"], "nameservers": ["ns0.wikimedia.org"],
  "dnssec": false, "dns": {"A": ["185.15.59.224"], "MX": ["10 mx-in1001.wikimedia.org."]},
  "hasSpf": true, "dmarcPolicy": "reject", "error": null
}
```

### Pricing (pay per event)

- **$2.00 per 1,000 domains** (`domain-checked`, $0.002 each), plus the standard $0.00005 actor start.
- **Free:** invalid inputs, duplicates, and rows where nothing came back (registry unreachable or rate-limited with no DNS data).
- Respects your run's maximum cost.

### Privacy and fair use

- **No personal data:** registrant, admin and tech contact entities are ignored and never written to the output.
- Requests are paced and retried with backoff, and the Actor identifies itself with a User-Agent. Some registries (for example Nominet for `.uk`) rate-limit heavily. Those rows come back as `RATE_LIMITED` and are free when no DNS data came back either.
- Don't use the output to build contact lists. The Actor doesn't collect contacts anyway.

# Actor input Schema

## `domains` (type: `array`):

Domain names or URLs ("example.com", "https://www.example.org/page"). The registrable name is checked. Up to 10,000 per run.

## `includeRdap` (type: `boolean`):

Registrar, creation/expiry dates, status, nameservers and DNSSEC from the registry's official RDAP server.

## `includeDns` (type: `boolean`):

A, AAAA, MX, NS, TXT and CAA records, plus SPF and DMARC detection.

## `concurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many domains are checked at the same time. Lower it if you see many RATE_LIMITED results.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "domains": [
    "apify.com",
    "example.org",
    "wikipedia.org"
  ],
  "includeRdap": true,
  "includeDns": true,
  "concurrency": 8
}
