## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

# README

## Vetted Biz Franchise Scraper

Collect public franchise listing metadata from [Vetted Biz](https://www.vettedbiz.com/franchises) for franchise research, lead generation, market analysis, and comparison workflows. The actor discovers listing URLs from the public franchise sitemap or accepts direct listing URLs.

### What it extracts

| Field group | Public fields |
| --- | --- |
| Identity | Name, slug, listing URL, description, logo URL |
| Classification | Industry and category |
| Business profile | Corporate headquarters, total U.S. locations, founding years |
| Costs | Displayed franchise fee, minimum cash required, investment range |
| Context | Key insights, official source URL, scrape timestamp |

Fields not displayed on a public page are returned as `null`. The actor does not bypass membership access or infer financial performance.

### Input

```json
{
  "franchiseNames": ["7-Eleven", "AAMCO"],
  "industry": "",
  "category": "",
  "startUrls": [],
  "maxItems": 100,
  "maxConcurrency": 2
}
```

Use `franchiseNames` for partial name matching, or `startUrls` for specific public listing pages. Industry and category filters are applied to the fields displayed on each listing page.

### Pricing

| Event | Price |
| --- | ---: |
| Public franchise listing returned | $0.005 |

The actor charges only after a schema-valid dataset item is saved. Your run's `maxItems` bounds the maximum result-event charge; for example, `maxItems: 100` caps result events at $0.50, excluding any Apify platform usage that may apply.

### Output

Each dataset item includes the public listing name, slug, description, logo URL, industry, category, headquarters, location count, founding years, displayed franchise fee, minimum cash required, investment range, key insights, source URL, and scrape timestamp. Values that are not displayed publicly are `null`; the actor does not infer or bypass membership access.

The `OUTPUT` key contains status, counts, normalized input, and warnings. No result is emitted for gated financial-performance fields that are absent from the public page.

### Scope and reliability

This actor reads public HTML pages only, uses bounded HTTP concurrency and retries, and does not sign in, submit forms, access private material, download FDDs, or circumvent access controls. Vetted Biz content can change; verify important investment decisions against the original listing and current FDD.

### When to use this actor

Use it when you need a current, structured index of Vetted Biz's public franchise listing pages. Do not use it for private membership data, FDD acquisition, investment advice, or guaranteed earnings data.

# Actor input Schema

## `franchiseNames` (type: `array`):

Optional exact or partial franchise names, for example \["7-Eleven", "AAMCO"]. Leave empty to crawl the public sitemap.

## `industry` (type: `string`):

Optional case-insensitive industry filter such as Retail or Healthcare.

## `category` (type: `string`):

Optional case-insensitive category filter such as Grocery Store.

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

Optional Vetted Biz listing URLs. Use this to scrape specific pages without sitemap discovery.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Maximum unique public listing records to save.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

Concurrent HTTP requests. Keep low for respectful crawling.
