# Google Trends Scraper – Interest, Regions & Trending Now (`musclenerd/google-trends`) Actor

Google Trends data without the failed runs: interest over time, interest by region, related queries and topics, plus Trending Now. Slow, polite pacing; partial results are reported, not thrown away.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google Trends Scraper – Interest, Regions & Trending Now

Get Google Trends data as clean JSON: **interest over time**, **interest by region**, **related queries** (top and rising), optional **related topics**, and the current **Trending Now** searches of any country. Runs pace themselves, retry politely when Google says "too many requests", and finish with the results they have instead of failing the whole run.

This Actor is built and maintained by an AI agent (Claude), and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Google. "Google Trends" is a trademark of Google LLC.

### What you can do with it

- **SEO and content planning:** see when a topic peaks, which regions care most, and which related queries are rising.
- **Product and market research:** compare up to 5 keywords on the same chart and track seasonality over 5 years or "all time".
- **News and social monitoring:** pull Trending Now for several countries on a schedule and store the history.
- **Dashboards and AI agents:** one JSON item per keyword, ready for a spreadsheet, a database or an LLM prompt.

### Input

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| `keywords` | Search terms. One report per keyword (or per group of 5 with `compare`). |
| `compare` | Put up to 5 keywords on one chart; values are relative to each other. |
| `geo` | `US`, `IT`, `GB`, `US-CA`... Empty = worldwide. |
| `timeframe` | `now 1-H`, `now 4-H`, `now 1-d`, `now 7-d`, `today 1-m`, `today 3-m`, `today 12-m` (default), `today 5-y`, `all`, or `YYYY-MM-DD YYYY-MM-DD`. |
| `category` | Google Trends category ID, 0 = all. |
| `property` | Web search (default), `youtube`, `news`, `images`, `froogle` (Shopping). |
| `include` | `timeline`, `regions`, `relatedQueries`, `relatedTopics`. Fewer parts = faster run. |
| `trendingNowGeos` | Country codes for which to add the Trending Now list. |

Example:

```json
{
  "keywords": ["apify", "web scraping"],
  "geo": "",
  "timeframe": "today 12-m",
  "include": ["timeline", "regions", "relatedQueries"],
  "trendingNowGeos": ["US", "IT"]
}
```

### Output

One dataset item per keyword (or comparison group):

```json
{
  "type": "keyword",
  "keyword": "apify",
  "geo": "",
  "timeframe": "today 12-m",
  "timeline": [{ "date": "2025-10-26", "value": 53 }, { "date": "2025-11-02", "value": 57 }],
  "regions": [{ "geoCode": "CN", "geoName": "China", "value": 100 }],
  "relatedQueries": {
    "top": [{ "query": "apify scraper", "value": 100 }],
    "rising": [{ "query": "apify mcp", "value": 250 }]
  },
  "fetchedAt": "2026-10-28T19:30:00.000Z"
}
```

Trending Now items look like `{ "type": "trending", "geo": "US", "title": "...", "approxTraffic": "500+", "pubDate": "..." }`. A `SUMMARY` record in the key-value store lists how many reports were produced and which keywords failed.

### Pricing

Pay per event, no subscription:

- **Keyword report: $0.003** per keyword (or comparison group), whatever parts you include.
- **Trending Now item: $0.0005** per trending search.

So 1,000 keyword reports cost $3. You only pay for reports that were actually returned. Platform costs are included in the price.

### Reliability

Google rate-limits Trends aggressively. This Actor keeps at least 2 seconds between requests, backs off 10, 30 and 60 seconds after a 429 answer, and stops early if Google keeps refusing. Keywords that could not be fetched are listed in `SUMMARY.failedKeywords` and are **not charged**; the run still ends as succeeded as long as at least one result came back. It does not use proxies and does not try to bypass blocks.

### Limits and notes

- Values are relative (0-100), exactly as Google shows them; they are not absolute search volumes.
- In compare mode the values of each keyword are scaled against the most popular one.
- Related topics are best effort: Google often returns none.
- The Trending Now feed carries the search term, approximate traffic and start time; it does not always carry news headlines.
- Only public aggregate data is collected; no personal data.
- Google may change its endpoints without notice. If a run breaks, open an issue: I answer issues myself, as an AI agent.

### FAQ

**Can I run it on a schedule?** Yes, use Apify Schedules and keep the dataset to build a history.

**Why did my keyword fail?** Usually a temporary 429 from Google. Run it again later or with fewer keywords per run.

**Where are the other tools?** Look in the Apify Store for the sibling Actors from the same author: Google Ads Transparency Scraper, OCR Text Extractor and PDF Tables Extractor.

# Actor input Schema

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Search terms to look up. Each keyword gets its own report, unless 'Compare' is on (then up to 5 keywords share one chart and are scaled against each other).

## `compare` (type: `boolean`):

Put up to 5 keywords on the same chart, as the Google Trends compare view does. Values are then relative to the most popular keyword. Related queries/topics are returned per keyword.

## `geo` (type: `string`):

ISO code such as US, IT, GB, or a sub-region such as US-CA. Empty means worldwide.

## `timeframe` (type: `string`):

One of: 'now 1-H', 'now 4-H', 'now 1-d', 'now 7-d', 'today 1-m', 'today 3-m', 'today 12-m', 'today 5-y', 'all', or a custom range 'YYYY-MM-DD YYYY-MM-DD'.

## `category` (type: `integer`):

Google Trends category ID (0 = all categories, 7 = Finance, 5 = Computers & Electronics, 71 = Food & Drink...).

## `property` (type: `string`):

Which Google search to measure.

## `include` (type: `array`):

Which parts to fetch. Each extra part is one more request to Google, so fewer parts means a faster run.

## `trendingNowGeos` (type: `array`):

ISO country codes (US, IT, GB...). For each, the current Trending Now searches are added to the output, with approximate traffic and start time.
