## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## SEC EDGAR Scraper

Scrape **SEC EDGAR company filings** by ticker or CIK — **10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, Form 4, and more** — with dates and **direct links to each filing document**. Built on the **official SEC data API**: no API key or setup needed.

Enter a ticker like `AAPL`, get a clean, dated list of that company's filings, ready to export to CSV, Excel, or JSON — or to feed a monitor that alerts you on new filings.

### Features

- **Official, rock-solid source** — reads SEC's own official data API. The Actor paces itself under SEC's fair-use limit.
- **Ticker or CIK** — pass `AAPL`, `TSLA`, or a raw CIK; the Actor resolves it for you.
- **Full history** — pages beyond the recent-filings block into SEC's archived submissions, up to `maxFilings`.
- **Filter to what matters** — keep only `10-K`, `10-Q`, `8-K`, `4` (insider), `13F-HR`, etc.
- **Direct document links** — every row links straight to the primary filing document on SEC.gov.
- **Honest results** — an unknown ticker is skipped with a warning; a real error fails the run loudly instead of reporting a silent empty success.

### Use cases

- **Filing monitoring** — schedule the Actor and get each company's newest 10-K/10-Q/8-K as it's filed.
- **Investment research** — pull a company's filing history for due diligence.
- **Insider-trading tracking** — filter to Form 4 to follow insider buys and sells.
- **Compliance & data pipelines** — build structured filing datasets without touching SEC's raw index files.

### Input

| Field | Type | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `companies` | string\[] | **Required.** Tickers (`AAPL`, `TSLA`) or CIK numbers (`0000320193`). |
| `formTypes` | string\[] | Optional. Keep only these filing types (e.g. `10-K`, `8-K`, `4`). Empty = all. |
| `maxFilings` | integer | Max filings per company, newest first. Default 50. |

#### Example

```json
{
  "companies": ["AAPL", "TSLA", "0000789019"],
  "formTypes": ["10-K", "10-Q", "8-K"],
  "maxFilings": 40
}
```

### Output

### Pricing

Pay-per-event: **$0.01 per run start** (per GB of run memory) plus **$1.00 per 1,000 filings**. You only pay for filings actually returned. See the **Pricing** tab for current rates.

### FAQ

**Do I need an SEC API key?**
No. SEC's data API is public and free; this Actor just packages it into clean, filtered rows with document links.

**How do I find a CIK?**
You don't have to — pass the ticker. For companies without a ticker, use the CIK (a number from the company's SEC page).

**Which filing types can I get?**
Any type SEC publishes: `10-K`, `10-Q`, `8-K`, `4`, `13F-HR`, `S-1`, `DEF 14A`, and more. Leave `formTypes` empty for all.

**Can I monitor new filings?**
Yes — schedule the Actor (e.g. daily) with `formTypes` set, and each run returns the latest filings for your companies.

### Disclaimer

This Actor uses the **public U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) EDGAR data API**. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the SEC. SEC data is public; you are responsible for how you use it. Filing content is provided by SEC as-is.
