## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## SEC EDGAR Filings Scraper

Get the latest SEC filings for the companies you name, by ticker or CIK. Each filing comes with its form type, filing date, description, 8-K items and a link to the document. Filter by form and date, and run it on a schedule.

- **Companies:** tickers such as `AAPL`, or CIK numbers such as `320193`. Up to 50 per run.
- **Forms:** 8-K (current events), 10-K (yearly report), 10-Q (quarterly report), 4 (insider trades) and any other form.
- **Monitoring:** turn on "Only new filings" and schedule a daily run. Each run returns only filings you have not received before.

### How to use it

1. Enter your name and email. The SEC asks for a contact on every request. The email goes only to sec.gov.
2. Add companies by ticker or CIK.
3. Pick form types and a start date if you want a narrower list.
4. Run it, then download the filings as JSON, CSV or Excel, or use the API.

#### Input example

```json
{
  "contact": "Jane Doe jane@example.com",
  "companies": ["AAPL", "MSFT"],
  "forms": ["8-K", "4"],
  "sinceDate": "2026-10-01",
  "maxFilingsPerCompany": 20
}
```

#### Output example (one filing)

```json
{
  "cik": "320193",
  "company": "Apple Inc.",
  "ticker": "AAPL",
  "form": "8-K",
  "filedAt": "2026-10-30",
  "acceptedAt": "2026-10-30T16:05:00.000Z",
  "description": "8-K",
  "items": "2.02",
  "accession": "0000320193-26-000010",
  "url": "https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/320193/000032019326000010/aapl-8k.htm",
  "returnedAt": "2026-11-01T10:00:00.000Z"
}
```

### Good to know

- **Official data.** Reads the SEC's EDGAR data API (data.sec.gov) and its company ticker list. It doesn't crawl the SEC's web pages.
- **Fair access.** The SEC asks for a declared User-Agent with a contact and at most 10 requests a second. The actor sends your contact and spaces its requests.
- **Recent filings only.** The data API lists each company's recent filings. Very old filings are not returned.
- **Cost.** Each filing costs $0.0001, so 1,000 filings cost $0.10, plus $0.005 per run.
- **Cost limit.** If you set a maximum cost for a run, the scraper stops cleanly when it reaches it.

### FAQ

**Why is a company listed as skipped?** The ticker or CIK did not match an SEC company. Check the spelling, or use the CIK.

**Do I need a key?** No. The SEC's data is public. The only requirement is the contact name and email in the input.

### Pricing

SEC EDGAR Filings Scraper uses pay per event. You pay $0.005 to start a run and $0.0001 for each filing, so 1,000 filings cost about $0.105. There is no monthly fee. Set a maximum cost on a run and it stops cleanly when it reaches it.

### Use cases

- Get an alert when a company files an 8-K for a current event.
- Follow insider trades by collecting Form 4 filings for a watchlist.
- Collect 10-K and 10-Q links for financial research.
- Feed fresh filings into a spreadsheet, database or AI pipeline.

### Use it from Python or JavaScript

Every Apify actor has an API. Replace the token with yours from the Apify Console.

```python
from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN")
run = client.actor("My_agent_C/sec-edgar-filings-scraper").call(run_input={
  "contact": "Jane Doe jane@example.com",
  "companies": ["AAPL", "MSFT"],
  "forms": ["8-K", "4"],
  "sinceDate": "2026-10-01",
  "maxFilingsPerCompany": 20
})
items = client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).list_items().items
```

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
const client = new ApifyClient({ token: 'YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN' });
const run = await client.actor('My_agent_C/sec-edgar-filings-scraper').call({
  "contact": "Jane Doe jane@example.com",
  "companies": ["AAPL", "MSFT"],
  "forms": ["8-K", "4"],
  "sinceDate": "2026-10-01",
  "maxFilingsPerCompany": 20
});
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
```

You can also run it on a schedule, send results to Google Sheets, Zapier, Make or n8n, or call it from an AI agent through the Apify MCP server.

#### More questions

**How do I get SEC filings by ticker?** Enter tickers such as AAPL or MSFT, pick the form types, and run the actor. It looks up each company and lists its recent filings with document links.

**Does the SEC allow automated access to EDGAR?** The SEC provides a data API for this and asks for a declared contact and at most 10 requests a second. The actor follows both rules.

**Does this give investment advice?** No. It returns public filing data only. You decide what to do with it.
