## Pricing

from $2.49 / 1,000 results

This Actor is paid per event and usage. You are charged both the fixed price for specific events and for Apify platform usage.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

### BBB Scraper — Better Business Bureau businesses, reviews and complaints

The BBB Scraper searches the Better Business Bureau by keyword and location and returns each business with phones, address, coordinates, BBB rating, accreditation, categories and service areas. It also returns customer reviews and customer complaints (with the business's responses) for any BBB profile. No login.

#### Input

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `mode` | `businesses` (default), `reviews`, `complaints` |
| `searchTerms` | What to search: `plumber`, `roofing`, a business name |
| `locations` | `Austin, TX` or a ZIP code; empty = whole country |
| `country` | `USA` or `CAN` |
| `sort` | Best match, distance, rating, A-Z, Z-A |
| `profileUrls` | BBB profile links for reviews / complaints |
| `maxBusinesses` | Businesses per search when reviews / complaints come from a search |
| `maxItems` | Rows per search (businesses) or per business (reviews, complaints); default 100 |

#### Output

| Mode | One row per | Main fields |
|---|---|---|
| businesses | business location | businessName, phone, phones, address, city, state, postalCode, latitude, longitude, rating, ratingScore, accredited, category, categories, serviceAreas, localBbb, profileUrl, requestQuoteUrl |
| reviews | review | rating (1-5), author, text, date, businessResponse, customerResponse, businessName, profileUrl |
| complaints | complaint | type, status, date, text, responses (from consumer / business, date, text), businessName, profileUrl |

#### Measured (2026-10-03, local, see TEST_REPORT.md)

- Plumbers in Austin, TX: 100 businesses in 8-10 s; 225 (BBB's maximum) in 19 s.
- Amazon.com: 60 reviews in 7 s (4,692 available), 40 complaints in 5 s.

#### Limits

- BBB returns at most 225 businesses (15 pages of 15) per search; split large areas into cities or ZIP codes.
- BBB serves reviews of about the last 3 years; complaint counts stop at 10,000.
- Website, years in business and owner names are only on BBB's profile pages, which are behind a Cloudflare challenge - not included.

#### Example

```json
{"mode": "businesses", "searchTerms": ["roofing", "gutter"], "locations": ["Denver, CO", "Boulder, CO"], "maxItems": 225}
```

# Actor input Schema

## `mode` (type: `string`):

businesses = BBB search results (one row per business location); reviews = customer reviews of the businesses; complaints = customer complaints with business responses.

## `searchTerms` (type: `array`):

What to search on BBB, e.g. plumber, roofing, dentist, or a business name. Every term is searched in every location.

## `locations` (type: `array`):

City and state or ZIP code, e.g. Austin, TX or 78701. Empty = the whole country. BBB returns at most 225 results per search, so split big areas into cities or ZIP codes.

## `country` (type: `string`):

BBB search country.

## `sort` (type: `string`):

BBB's sort order; it decides which 225 businesses a broad search returns.

## `profileUrls` (type: `array`):

Business profile links, e.g. https://www.bbb.org/us/wa/seattle/profile/ecommerce/amazoncom-1296-7039385. The ids at the end of the link are all that is needed.

## `maxBusinesses` (type: `integer`):

When reviews or complaints are taken from search results: how many businesses per search term and location.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

businesses: rows per search term and location (BBB caps a search at 225); reviews / complaints: rows per business, newest first.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Residential proxy is the default.
