## Pricing

from $2.49 / 1,000 results

This Actor is paid per event and usage. You are charged both the fixed price for specific events and for Apify platform usage.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

### SEC EDGAR Scraper — filings, XBRL company facts and full-text search

The SEC EDGAR Scraper reads SEC's official, free EDGAR APIs: every filing of a company (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, Form 4, S-1 ... back to 1994), every XBRL financial fact a company reported, and EDGAR full-text search hits with document links. No API key, no login.

SEC requires every automated client to declare who it is, so the input asks for your User-Agent ("Company Name email@company.com").

#### Input

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `mode` | `filings` (default), `companyFacts` or `fullTextSearch` |
| `companies` | Tickers (`AAPL`), CIKs (`320193`), EDGAR links or company names (`Tesla` - best EDGAR match, logged) |
| `searchQuery` | fullTextSearch phrase; quotes = exact phrase, e.g. `"supply chain disruption"` |
| `formTypes` | Keep only these forms, e.g. `10-K`, `8-K`, `4`; empty = all |
| `dateFrom`, `dateTo` | Filing date range (YYYY-MM-DD) |
| `xbrlConcepts` | companyFacts only: e.g. `NetIncomeLoss`, `Assets`; empty = all (~500 for Apple) |
| `userAgent` | Required by SEC: your company/name and contact email |
| `maxItems` | Rows per company (filings, facts) or per search (default 100) |

#### Output

| Mode | One row per | Main fields |
|---|---|---|
| filings | filing | companyName, cik, tickers, form, filingDate, reportDate, acceptanceDateTime, accessionNumber, items (8-K), isXBRL, documentUrl, filingIndexUrl |
| companyFacts | reported fact | concept, label, unit, value, periodStart, periodEnd, fiscalYear, fiscalPeriod, form, filed, frame, accessionNumber |
| fullTextSearch | filing (exhibits folded in) | companyName, tickers, cik, form, fileDate, periodEnding, fileDescription, documentUrl, businessLocation, stateOfIncorporation, sic |

#### Measured (2026-10-03, local, see TEST_REPORT.md)

- AAPL + MSFT filings: 200 rows in 4 s; all 30 Apple 10-Ks back to 1994 (older pages are read automatically).
- Full-text search: 250 filings in 5 s; 10,100 filings in 252 s by splitting the date range past EDGAR's 10,000-hit window.
- Company facts: 24 rows in 3 s for Tesla (found by name) and MSFT, newest period first.

#### Limits

- Full-text search covers 2001 onward (SEC); EDGAR returns at most 10,000 hits per query, so the Actor splits the date range; one day with more than 10,000 hits is cut at 10,000.
- Company facts exist only for filers that report XBRL financial data.
- SEC asks for at most 10 requests per second; the Actor sends about 1 per second.

#### Example

```json
{"mode": "filings", "companies": ["AAPL", "Tesla"], "formTypes": ["10-K", "8-K"], "dateFrom": "2024-01-01", "userAgent": "Acme Research data@acme.com", "maxItems": 50}
```

# Actor input Schema

## `mode` (type: `string`):

filings = the company's filing list (submissions JSON, full history back to 1994); companyFacts = every XBRL financial fact the company reported (one row per fact); fullTextSearch = EDGAR full-text search (2001 onward) for a phrase.

## `companies` (type: `array`):

Tickers (AAPL), CIK numbers (320193 or 0000320193), EDGAR company links, or company names (the best EDGAR name match is used and logged). Needed for filings and companyFacts; optional filter for fullTextSearch.

## `searchQuery` (type: `string`):

fullTextSearch only. Put a phrase in double quotes for an exact match, e.g. "supply chain disruption". Words without quotes must all appear.

## `formTypes` (type: `array`):

Keep only these forms, e.g. 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, 4, S-1, DEF 14A, D. Empty = every form. In companyFacts mode it filters by the form that reported the fact.

## `dateFrom` (type: `string`):

YYYY-MM-DD. Empty = no lower bound.

## `dateTo` (type: `string`):

YYYY-MM-DD. Empty = today.

## `xbrlConcepts` (type: `array`):

companyFacts only: keep only these concepts, e.g. NetIncomeLoss, Assets, EarningsPerShareBasic, RevenueFromContractWithCustomerExcludingAssessedTax. Empty = all concepts (Apple has about 500).

## `userAgent` (type: `string`):

SEC asks every automated client to identify itself with a company or person name and a contact email, e.g. "Acme Research LLC data@acme.com". Requests without a declared User-Agent are refused by SEC (HTTP 403). Replace the sample with your own.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Maximum rows per company in filings and companyFacts modes (newest first), or for the whole search in fullTextSearch mode.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

SEC serves its APIs to any IP that declares a User-Agent; residential proxy is the default.
