## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

### What does Job Status Checker do?

**Job Status Checker** is a job link checker for **Workday** and **iCIMS**. It checks whether known job posting links are **still open, closed (expired) or changed**. Give it public job-detail URLs (and, optionally, the title or requisition ID you expect) and get one JSON result per job with a status of `open`, `closed`, `mismatch` or `unknown`, a timestamp, and **quoted source evidence**.

It checks public job pages and Workday's public job-detail API. It needs **no login**, and it does not search for jobs, apply to jobs or read employer dashboards. Uncertain checks stay `unknown` instead of being guessed, and **unknown results are not charged**.

### Why use this job posting status checker?

- ✅ **Clear statuses.** `open`, `closed`, `mismatch` or `unknown`, each with a plain-language `reason`.
- 🧾 **Evidence you can show.** Each result quotes the field and URL that prove it, with the HTTP status.
- 🆔 **Identity check.** Compare a stored title or requisition ID with what the employer's page actually shows.
- 🚫 **No false "closed".** Blocks, CAPTCHAs, login walls and generic errors return `unknown`, not `closed`.
- 💸 **Pay only for decisive checks.** `unknown` and blocked checks are free.

#### Use cases

- Remove expired or closed job links from a job board, job alert email or aggregator
- Revalidate a job link before an AI career agent recommends it to an applicant
- Recheck a recruiting or job-ads inventory on a schedule
- Detect when a requisition ID or title no longer matches the page

### How to check if a Workday or iCIMS job is still open

1. Click **Try for free** or **Start** to open the Actor in Apify Console.
2. Add your job links in **Jobs**, each with a `url` and optional `expectedTitle` and `expectedJobId`.
3. Optionally set **concurrency** (1–10) and **timeoutSeconds** (5–120).
4. Click **Start**.
5. Read the status of each job in the dataset, export as JSON, CSV or Excel, and check the `SUMMARY` record.

### Supported job sites

| Source | Supported URL | How it is verified |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Workday public careers | `https://tenant.wdN.myworkdayjobs.com/[locale/]board/job/location/role_ID` | Public page plus Workday's `/wday/cxs/tenant/board/job/...` detail. Requires a title, description, canonical identity and a matching job path or requisition ID. |
| Workday recruiting sites | `https://wdN.myworkdaysite.com/[locale/]recruiting/tenant/board/job/location/role_ID` | Same public detail endpoint, with tenant and board taken from the recruiting path. |
| iCIMS public job portals | `https://careers-company.icims.com/jobs/12345/role/job` | Matching JobPosting JSON-LD or job-specific title and description plus a same-job application link. Can follow one same-origin iframe for that job. |

Workday locale prefixes such as `en-US` and paths without a location segment are supported, as are iCIMS `/jobs/12345/job` and `/jobs/12345` paths. Custom employer domains, other applicant tracking systems, search pages, private portals and URLs with credentials return `unknown` without a request. Only HTTPS on the default port is supported. To find jobs first, use a discovery tool such as the [Career Site Jobs Scraper](https://apify.com/nickatnite79/career-site-jobs-scraper).

### Input

```json
{
  "jobs": [
    {
      "url": "https://nvidia.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/NVIDIAExternalCareerSite/job/US-CA-Santa-Clara/Senior-Firmware-Engineer---CSP-Engagements_JR1999599",
      "expectedJobId": "JR1999599"
    }
  ],
  "concurrency": 3,
  "timeoutSeconds": 30
}
```

- `jobs`: 1–10,000 objects, each with a required `url` and optional `expectedTitle` and `expectedJobId`. A mismatch is reported only when the source shows an actual title or ID.
- Title and ID comparisons ignore case, extra whitespace and Unicode presentation differences.
- `concurrency`: 1–10. `timeoutSeconds`: per-request timeout, 5–120.
- Exact duplicate URL and expectation pairs are checked once (URL fragments are ignored).

This NVIDIA Workday URL was verified in October 2026; it may close later. Replace it with your own job links.

#### What each status means

| Status | Meaning |
| --- | --- |
| `open` | The source shows a coherent posting matching the requested job. |
| `closed` | The same job page explicitly says the posting is unavailable, closed, expired or filled, or returns HTTP 404/410. For Workday, the job-specific API codes `S22` (no longer posted) and `S21` (not found) also count. |
| `mismatch` | A verified posting differs from your expected title or ID. The actual identity is included. It does not mean the job closed. |
| `unknown` | Access was blocked, login was required, a request failed, the page redirected elsewhere, or evidence was insufficient. |

HTTP 401/403/429, server errors, bot challenges and login walls take precedence over closure wording. A generic Workday 403/404 alone is not treated as closed. `canApply: false`, an unpublished flag or a past iCIMS expiry date produce `unknown` unless the page itself confirms closure.

Each result includes `url`, `checkedAt`, `platform`, `source`, `status`, `title`, `jobId`, `jobIds`, `reason`, `error` and `evidence` (URL, HTTP status, quote and field). The `SUMMARY` key-value record includes `produced`, `billableResults`, `diagnosticResults`, `stoppedForBudget` and `completedAt`.

### How much does it cost to check job posting status?

This Actor uses pay-per-event pricing: **$0.005 per decisive check ($5 per 1,000)**. `open`, `closed` and `mismatch` results are charged. **`unknown` results are free**, including blocked and failed requests. There is no start fee. Checking 200 job links costs at most $1.

If a run hits your spending limit, it stops further checks (including free diagnostics) and sets `stoppedForBudget: true` in `SUMMARY`. The Apify Free plan includes monthly platform usage credits with no credit card required. Check the **Pricing** tab for the current rate.

### Use the job status checker from an AI agent or the API

The Actor ID is `nickatnite79/job-status-checker`, and it is available as a tool through the Apify MCP server (`https://mcp.apify.com`). Choose it when you **already have** public Workday or iCIMS job URLs. A company name, career homepage or search query is not enough.

Example agent instruction: "Recheck these public Workday and iCIMS job URLs. Include our expected titles and IDs. Report each status with its reason, evidence URL and checkedAt timestamp, and route unknown results for review."

With `apify-client` and your own Apify token as `APIFY_TOKEN`:

```js
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
const client = new ApifyClient({ token: process.env.APIFY_TOKEN });
const input = {
  jobs: [{
    url: 'https://nvidia.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/NVIDIAExternalCareerSite/job/US-CA-Santa-Clara/Senior-Firmware-Engineer---CSP-Engagements_JR1999599',
    expectedJobId: 'JR1999599',
  }],
  concurrency: 3,
  timeoutSeconds: 30,
};
const run = await client.actor('nickatnite79/job-status-checker')
  .call(input, { maxTotalChargeUsd: 0.05 });
if (run.status !== 'SUCCEEDED') throw new Error(`Actor ended with ${run.status}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
const summary = await client.keyValueStore(run.defaultKeyValueStoreId)
  .getRecord('SUMMARY');
console.log({ results: items, summary: summary?.value });
```

Results arrive in completion order. If you need to distinguish several expectation sets for the same URL, submit them in separate runs, because the output does not echo expectations.

### FAQ

#### Does "closed" mean the job was filled?

No. It means the public posting is explicitly closed or unavailable at check time. Employers may also close a role while keeping its page online, or reopen a requisition.

#### Does "open" mean the employer will accept my application?

No. `open` confirms a public posting exists at check time, not that the employer is still hiring or will respond.

#### Is iCIMS tested live?

iCIMS support is covered by fixture tests. Live verification so far is on Workday (NVIDIA job `JR1999599`). Run a small test on your target employers before relying on results at scale.

#### Does it use a browser or solve CAPTCHAs?

No. It uses HTTP requests and structured data, does not log in and does not solve CAPTCHAs. JavaScript-only pages and ambiguous responses return `unknown`.

#### Something broke or a site isn't supported?
