## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

## Firefox Add-ons Scraper 🦊🧩

Scrape **Firefox add-ons** (browser extensions & themes) straight from the official
Mozilla Add-ons store — [addons.mozilla.org](https://addons.mozilla.org) (AMO) — as
clean, structured JSON. Get **daily active users, ratings, review counts, weekly
downloads, current version and author** for any extension. No API key, no login.

👉 **[Run it on Apify »](https://apify.com/ninhothedev/firefox-addons-scraper)**

***

### What it does

Two modes:

- **`search`** — paginate the AMO search API for a keyword (e.g. `ad blocker`,
  `dark mode`, `password manager`) and collect up to `maxItems` add-ons.
- **`addons`** — fetch specific add-ons by their **slug** (the last part of an add-on
  URL, e.g. `ublock-origin`) or **GUID**.

One dataset row per add-on. Runs on **datacenter proxies** (or no proxy at all) —
the AMO API is a clean public JSON endpoint.

### Input

| Field      | Type            | Description                                                        |
|------------|-----------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------|
| `mode`     | select          | `search` (keyword) or `addons` (specific slugs/GUIDs)              |
| `query`    | string          | Search keyword when `mode = search`. Default `ad blocker`         |
| `slugs`    | array of string | Add-on slugs or GUIDs when `mode = addons`, e.g. `["ublock-origin"]` |
| `maxItems` | integer         | Max add-ons to return (1–1000, default 100)                       |

#### Example input

```json
{
  "mode": "search",
  "query": "ad blocker",
  "maxItems": 100
}
```

```json
{
  "mode": "addons",
  "slugs": ["ublock-origin", "darkreader", "firefox@ghostery.com"]
}
```

### Output

Each item:

```json
{
  "id": 607454,
  "name": "uBlock Origin",
  "slug": "ublock-origin",
  "summary": "An efficient blocker add-on for various browsers. Fast, potent, and lean.",
  "type": "extension",
  "users": 10619125,
  "weekly_downloads": 212319,
  "rating": 4.8006,
  "rating_count": 21911,
  "author": "Raymond Hill",
  "version": "1.72.2",
  "url": "https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/",
  "scraped_at": "2026-07-18T08:00:00+00:00"
}
```

Every field is nullable. `users` is average daily users; `rating` is the average
star rating (0–5); `rating_count` is the number of ratings.

### Pricing

Pay-per-usage. Roughly **~$1 per 1,000 add-ons** scraped on the Apify platform
(exact cost depends on your plan and proxy usage — this actor is datacenter-friendly
and light on compute).

### Use cases

- **Extension market research** — size the market for a category (ad blockers,
  VPNs, productivity), rank by daily users.
- **Competitor intelligence** — track rivals' user counts, ratings and version
  cadence over time.
- **Developer analytics** — monitor your own extension's adoption and reviews.
- **Analytics & dashboards** — feed add-on metrics into BI tools, spreadsheets or
  lead lists.

# Actor input Schema

## `mode` (type: `string`):

How to collect add-ons. 'search' paginates the AMO search API for a keyword query. 'addons' fetches specific add-ons by their slug or GUID.

## `query` (type: `string`):

Keyword to search add-ons for (used when mode = 'search'). Example: 'ad blocker', 'dark mode', 'password manager'.

## `slugs` (type: `array`):

List of add-on slugs or GUIDs to fetch (used when mode = 'addons'). A slug is the last path part of an add-on URL, e.g. 'ublock-origin'.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of add-ons to return. Capped at 1000.

{
  "mode": "search",
  "query": "ad blocker",
  "slugs": [
    "ublock-origin"
  ],
  "maxItems": 100
