## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## SEC EDGAR Filings & Financials

Get any US public company's SEC filings and clean, ready-to-use financials from a ticker. One run returns:

- **Filings**: 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, Form 4, S-1, DEF 14A and every other form, with direct links to the document and the filing index.
- **Financials**: annual and quarterly revenue, gross profit, operating income, net income, EPS, operating cash flow, capex, free cash flow, R\&D, assets, liabilities, equity, cash, long-term debt and margins, normalized from the company's XBRL data.
- **Full-text search**: find every filing since 2001 that mentions a phrase, e.g. `"going concern"` or `"tariffs"`.

Data comes straight from the SEC's official EDGAR APIs. No login, no API key, no scraping of third-party sites.

### Why the financials are "clean"

Raw XBRL is hard to use: the `fy` field is the year of the filing, not of the period, every 10-K repeats prior years, and companies switch tags over time (Apple reported `Revenues` until 2018 and `RevenueFromContractWithCustomerExcludingAssessedTax` after). This Actor classifies each value by its real period (about 365 days = annual, about 90 days = quarter), merges tag variants by priority, keeps the most recently filed figure for each period and adds free cash flow and margins.

### Input

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| `companies` | Tickers (`AAPL`, `MSFT`, `BRK-B`) or SEC CIK numbers. |
| `forms` | Only these form types, e.g. `10-K`, `8-K`, `4`. Empty = all. Also filters full-text search. |
| `maxFilingsPerCompany` | Most recent filings per company (default 10, `0` = financials only). |
| `startDate` / `endDate` | Filing date range, `YYYY-MM-DD`. |
| `includeFinancials` | Add the normalized financials row (default on). |
| `financialYears` / `financialQuarters` | How many fiscal years (default 5) and quarters (default 4). |
| `fullTextQuery` | Search the text of all filings. Quotes for exact phrases. |
| `maxSearchResults` | Max search hits (default 20). |

### Output

Every row has a `recordType`.

}
```
**`financials`** (one per company)
  ],
  "quarterly": [ { "periodEnd": "2026-06-27", "revenue": 109400000000 } ]
}
```

**`searchHit`**: company, ticker, form, filing date and document link for each match.

**`error`**: unknown ticker, no matching filings or no XBRL data, each with a `hint` so an AI agent can fix the input without reading logs.

### Good to know

- Financials cover companies that file XBRL with the SEC (practically all US-listed operating companies since 2011). Funds and many foreign filers have none, and you get an error row instead.
- The filings list covers the company's most recent ~1,000 filings.
- Amounts are in USD as reported, not adjusted for splits.
