## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Shopify App & Theme Detector + App Install Monitor

Give it a list of domains. For each Shopify store it returns the apps it runs, the theme, currency, country, product count, public contact email and social links. Run it on a schedule and it also tells you which apps a store added or removed since the last run.

In our test run, 13 domains took 18 seconds. 11 were Shopify stores, and we found 10.8 apps per store on average (between 1 and 21). A public email turned up for 7 of the 11.

### What you get per store

- Apps, matched against 130+ known signatures: Klaviyo, Judge.me, Yotpo, ReCharge, Gorgias, Okendo, Attentive, Rebuy, Smile.io, Loox, Privy, Omnisend, Afterpay, Klarna, Global-e, Route, Nosto, PageFly and more.
- App embeds (theme app extensions) by handle, including apps that aren't in the signature list. Tentree, for example, shows `pushowl` and `tentree-cart-app`.
- Theme name and version, and whether it's a custom theme or one from the Theme Store.
- Currency, country, locale, the myshopify domain, and whether the store is headless or uses an Online Store theme.
- Product count, vendor count, price range and newest product date, read from the public `/products.json`.
- Public contact email, phone, and links to Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, X, Pinterest and LinkedIn.
- Tracking pixels and tags: Meta, TikTok, Google Ads, GA4, GTM, Pinterest, Snapchat, Bing.
- In monitoring mode: `appsInstalled`, `appsRemoved` and `themeChanged` compared with the previous run.

You only pay for Shopify stores that were analyzed. Domains that aren't Shopify, can't be reached, are password-protected or appear twice cost nothing.

### Typical uses

- You build a Shopify app and want stores that run a competitor's app, or that removed it last week.
- You run an agency and want to check a prospect's stack and catalog size before you contact them.
- You have a list of domains and want apps, socials and a public email added to each row.
- You want to know what the larger brands in your niche run.

### How to use

1. Paste store URLs or bare domains into **Store URLs or domains**, e.g. `allbirds.com` or `https://www.tentree.com`.
2. Click **Start**. Most stores take 1 to 3 seconds.
3. Export the results as JSON, CSV or Excel, or read them through the API.

#### Monitoring app installs and uninstalls

1. Turn on **Monitoring mode** and name the watch list in **Monitoring storage name**, e.g. `my-competitor-watchlist`.
2. Run once. This saves the baseline.
3. [Schedule](https://docs.apify.com/platform/schedules) the Actor daily or weekly. From then on, each row has `monitoring.appsInstalled`, `monitoring.appsRemoved` and `monitoring.themeChanged`.
4. Turn on **Output only stores with changes** if you only want rows that changed. Stores without changes are skipped and not charged.

You can send the dataset to Slack, Google Sheets, Make, Zapier or a webhook with [Apify integrations](https://docs.apify.com/platform/integrations).

```
Real output for tentree.com (the `monitoring` block is an illustrative second-run example). `productCountIsMinimum: true` means the store has at least that many products (raise **Max product pages** for an exact count of large catalogs).
### Pricing
$0.005 per analyzed Shopify store, which is $5 per 1,000. There is no monthly fee. Domains that aren't Shopify, can't be reached, are blocked, password-protected or duplicated are free. With **Output only stores with changes** on, skipped stores are free as well. The monthly credit on Apify's free plan covers about 1,000 stores.
### What it reads
The Actor only loads public pages: the homepage, `/pages/contact` and Shopify's public `/products.json`. That is the same data a browser gets. It respects `robots.txt` by default, sends a few requests per store and processes 5 stores in parallel. It never logs in, never gets past a store password and never touches admin data.
Detection works from script URLs, CDN hosts and app embeds on the storefront. Apps that load nothing on the storefront, such as accounting or inventory tools, can't be seen.
A public business email can still count as personal data under GDPR. Follow the laws that apply to you, such as GDPR or CAN-SPAM, when you use it.
### FAQ
**Does it find every app?** No. It only sees apps that load something on the storefront. App embeds are reported even for apps that aren't in the signature list.
**Headless stores (Hydrogen or a custom front-end)?** They're detected as Shopify with `storefrontType: "headless"`. Theme and `/products.json` data are often missing for them.
**Why is a store marked `not-shopify`?** It runs on another platform, or it redirected to a non-Shopify page for our region.
**Some stores show very few apps.** A few large brands redirect to a separate checkout or regional domain. Gymshark, for example, redirected to `us.checkout.gymshark.com` and only 1 app was found there. Try the brand's regional storefront URL directly.
**Can you add an app?** Yes. Open an issue on the Actor's Issues tab with the store URL where it appears.
# Actor input Schema
## `stores` (type: `array`):
Shopify store homepages or plain domains, e.g. allbirds.com or https://www.gymshark.com. Duplicates are removed automatically.
## `countProducts` (type: `boolean`):
Adds product count, vendor count, price range and date of the newest product.
## `maxProductPages` (type: `integer`):
Caps catalog counting per store. If the cap is hit, productCountIsMinimum = true (e.g. '1000+').
## `scanContactPage` (type: `boolean`):
If no public email is found on the homepage, also check the store's public contact page.
## `monitoringMode` (type: `boolean`):
Saves each store's app list in a named key-value store and reports apps installed/removed and theme changes since the previous run. Schedule the Actor (e.g. daily or weekly) to get a change feed.
## `monitorStoreName` (type: `string`):
Name of the key-value store that keeps the previous snapshot. Use different names for different watch lists.
## `outputOnlyChanges` (type: `boolean`):
In monitoring mode, skip stores without any app/theme change since the last run (you are not charged for skipped stores).
## `includeNonShopify` (type: `boolean`):
Keep a (free) row for domains that are not Shopify or could not be reached.
## `respectRobotsTxt` (type: `boolean`):
Skip pages that the store disallows for all crawlers.
## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):
Stores processed in parallel. Each store gets only a handful of requests.
## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):
Optional. Usually not needed – Shopify storefronts are public.
