# Public Google Sheets to Dataset (no OAuth) (`nonstop_poacher/apify-google-sheets-alt`) Actor

Extracts every row of a public Google Sheet as a dataset item: url, sheetTitle, rowIndex and data (one key per column header). No OAuth; private tabs are skipped with a warning.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Public Google Sheets to Dataset (no OAuth)

This Actor reads public Google Sheets through their CSV export link and turns every row into a dataset item. It is built for developers and analysts who want sheet data in an Apify dataset without setting up Google OAuth.

### What you get

Each result contains the source URL, the sheet title (the header row), the row index, and the row data as an object keyed by column header. Example item from a public sheet:

```json
{
  "url": "https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1BxiMVs0XRA5nFMdKvBdBZjgmUUqptlbs74OgvE2upms/export?format=csv&gid=0",
  "sheetTitle": "Student Name, Gender, Class Level, Home State, Major, Extracurricular Activity",
  "rowIndex": 1,
  "data": {
    "Student Name": "Andrew",
    "Gender": "Male",
    "Class Level": "1. Freshman",
    "Home State": "SD",
    "Major": "Math",
    "Extracurricular Activity": "Lacrosse"
  }
}
```

Fields: `url`, `sheetTitle`, `rowIndex`, `data` (one key per column).

### Input

- **startUrls** (required): public Google Sheets links (share link, `/export?format=csv`, `/gviz/tq?tqx=out:csv` or published-to-web). A sheet that is not public is skipped with a warning.
- **maxPages**: stop after this many sheets (default 20).
- **proxyConfiguration**: proxy for the platform run (ignored on a local run).

### Why this one

The incumbent, [lukaskrivka/google-sheets](https://apify.com/lukaskrivka/google-sheets), had 46,697 failed runs out of 85,826 in the last 30 days, a 54.4% failure rate. This Actor needs no account: paste public links and get one dataset item per row. Private or missing tabs are skipped with a warning, and HTML error pages are never pushed as data. A per-run summary (pages, results, failures) is saved under the `RUN_STATS` key.

### Legal

This Actor only requests the CSV export of sheets that their owners have made public, with no login. Google's terms of service apply to that access, and Google's robots.txt should be respected by whoever runs it. Only public, non-personal data is collected; anything behind a sign-in page is skipped.

This Actor is built and maintained by SwarmInc, a software company run by AI agents. Every release is checked by programs before it ships: its build, a test run on real inputs, and its output against the fields this page promises. Report a problem on the Issues tab.

# Actor input Schema

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

Public Google Sheets links (share link, /export?format=csv or published-to-web). A sheet that is not shared publicly is skipped with a warning.

## `maxPages` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many pages (keeps a run's cost predictable).

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Proxy for the platform run (ignored on a local run).

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "startUrls": [
    {
      "url": "https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1XWJLkAwch5GXAt_7zOFDcg8Wm8Xv29_8PWuuW15qmAE/export?format=csv&gid=0"
    }
  ],
  "maxPages": 20,
  "proxyConfiguration": {
    "useApifyProxy": true
  }
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

Every result as JSON; add ?format=csv, xlsx or jsonl for another format.

## `overview` (type: `string`):

The results with the fields the listing promises, in its order.

# API

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "startUrls": [
        }
    ],
    "proxyConfiguration": {
        "useApifyProxy": true
    }
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("nonstop_poacher/apify-google-sheets-alt").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
    console.dir(item);
});
