## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## ClinicalTrials.gov Study Monitor

This Actor extracts clinical study records from the official ClinicalTrials.gov API v2 (no key needed) for a condition, phase and status of your choice. It returns the studies whose status, phase, enrollment or last update changed since your last run. It is meant for patient-recruitment firms, CROs and biotech analysts who follow studies by condition on a schedule.

### What you get

Each result is one study record with the NCT id, title, sponsor, phase, status, enrollment, start and completion dates, last update date, conditions, lead intervention and the country of the first listed location. It also carries `previous` (the earlier values of the watched fields when they changed) and `first_seen` (true the first time a study appears). The record is at `clinicaltrials.gov/study/<nct_id>`.

Example item from a real run:

```json
{
  "nct_id": "NCT03596450",
  "title": "Long Term Comparative Effectiveness of Once Weekly Semaglutide Versus Standard of Care in a Real World Adult US Population With Type 2 Diabetes - a Randomized Pragmatic Trial",
  "sponsor": "Novo Nordisk A/S",
  "phase": ["PHASE4"],
  "status": "COMPLETED",
  "enrollment": 1278,
  "start_date": "2018-07-13",
  "completion_date": "2023-06-09",
  "last_update_date": "2026-09-30",
  "conditions": ["Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2"],
  "lead_intervention": "Semaglutide",
  "first_country": "United States",
  "previous": null,
  "first_seen": true
}
```

### Input

- `condition`: disease or condition to follow (for example breast cancer, type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer).
- `phase`: study phase to follow (EARLY_PHASE1, PHASE1, PHASE2, PHASE3 or PHASE4).
- `status`: recruitment status to follow (for example RECRUITING, COMPLETED, TERMINATED).
- `updated_since`: only studies whose record was last updated on or after this date (YYYY-MM-DD).
- `onlyChanges`: on, each run returns only the records whose watched values changed since your last run (the first run returns them all); off, every matching record with its previous values.
- `maxItems`: stop after this many results.

### Why this one

The incumbent, [parseforge/clinicaltrials-scraper](https://apify.com/parseforge/clinicaltrials-scraper), is a scraper that returns studies on each run. This one is a monitor: it keeps the state of each study between runs and, with `onlyChanges` on, returns only those whose status, phase, enrollment or last update date changed. In test runs on three real inputs it returned 595 recruiting phase 2 breast cancer studies, 115 completed phase 4 type 2 diabetes studies and 17 active phase 3 Alzheimer studies, with every promised field filled in at least 98% of items and none dropped or failed.

### Legal

The data comes from ClinicalTrials.gov, the public registry of the U.S. National Library of Medicine, whose API is offered for reuse; the registry is the source and is credited here. The Actor reads robots.txt before any fetch and obeys it. It collects public study records only, no patient data, and leaves out the investigators' and contacts' names that some records carry. Use the data as the site's terms allow.

# Actor input Schema

## `condition` (type: `string`):

Disease or condition to follow (for example breast cancer, type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer).

## `phase` (type: `string`):

Study phase to follow.

## `status` (type: `string`):

Recruitment status to follow.

## `updated_since` (type: `string`):
