## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## French Company Search (Recherche d'entreprises, Sirene)

This Actor searches France's official company register through the State's free Recherche d'entreprises API (INSEE Sirene data, credited to recherche-entreprises.api.gouv.fr). You filter by NAF activity code, département, headcount band and status. It returns one typed record per legal entity (SIREN, head-office SIRET, name, legal form, NAF code, address, coordinates, creation date, size). It is built for analysts and sales teams who need market sizing or B2B prospect lists without personal data.

### Use cases

- A market analyst counts the active IT service companies (NAF 62.01Z) in Paris by headcount band before a go-to-market decision, and reruns the search each quarter to see how the market moves.
- A B2B sales team builds a prospect list of restaurants with 10 to 19 employees in the Rhône, with head-office address and coordinates, to plan a regional outreach campaign.
- A franchise or retail expansion manager maps the supermarket operators in a département (NAF 47.11D) by company category and number of open establishments, to size local competition.
- A data team refreshes a CRM each month with new legal entities in its target activity codes, keyed on SIREN so records match without cleaning.
- An investor or consultant lists the ceased companies in a sector (status C) to study how long companies last.

### What you get

One record per legal entity, with 18 typed fields: siren, siret_head_office, name, legal_name, naf_code, legal_form_code, address, postcode, city, departement, lat, lon, creation_date, headcount_band, company_category, establishments_total, establishments_open and status. A value that is missing or of the wrong type is dropped, never passed on as data. Sole traders (legal form 1000, whose company name is a person's name) are left out, and so are company officers.

Example result (supermarkets, Gironde):

```json
{
  "siren": "440979789",
  "siret_head_office": "44097978900011",
```

### Input

- **NAF activity code** (`activite_principale`): main activity code (NAF rev. 2), e.g. 62.01Z (computer programming), 56.10A (restaurants), 47.11D (supermarkets).
- **Département** (`departement`): département code of the head office, e.g. 75 Paris, 69 Rhône, 2A Corse-du-Sud. Leave empty for all of France.
- **Headcount band code** (`tranche_effectif_salarie`): INSEE headcount band, from 00 (0 employees) to 53 (10000+). Leave empty for any.
- **Status** (`etat_administratif`): A for active companies, C for ceased companies.
- **Max results** (`maxItems`): stop after this many results.

### Why this one

Buyers today use dltik's scraper at https://apify.com/dltik/pappers-sirene-scraper. This Actor reads the State's official API directly, needs no key, and returns legal entities only. Pages are fetched with 25 records per page, 20 pages at most per search, and a 200 ms delay between requests to respect the API's rate limit. In measured runs on three real inputs (IT companies in Paris, restaurants in the Rhône, supermarkets in the Gironde) it returned 219, 279 and 227 items, and 290 items on the default input. Every run exited cleanly without timing out. Address, city, NAF code, legal form and creation date were filled in 100% of items in every run, and the lowest field was company category, at 85.5% on the supermarkets run.

### Legal

It reads the public data of recherche-entreprises.api.gouv.fr only, which publishes Sirene data under the Licence Ouverte (Etalab): no logins, no paywalls, public non-personal company data. Sole traders and company officers are excluded, and units whose owners refused diffusion are not shown by the API. The program reads the site's robots.txt before it fetches anything and obeys it. Source: INSEE Sirene via the Recherche d'entreprises API. Use the data as the site's terms of use allow.
