## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Website Tech Stack Detector – BuiltWith & Wappalyzer alternative

Find out **which technologies any website uses**: CMS, ecommerce platform, analytics and tag managers, JavaScript frameworks, CDN and hosting, marketing automation, live chat, payment providers, cookie banners and more. Paste a list of domains and get one clean record per website. Optionally add the **email provider** (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365…) and **SaaS tools verified in DNS**, plus **social profile links** found on the homepage.

- **7,600+ technology fingerprints** (open-source webappanalyzer database, the community successor of Wappalyzer's fingerprints)
- **No browser, no API key, no account anywhere**: fast, cheap and light (256 MB is enough)
- **Lead-gen filter**: only return websites that use e.g. *Shopify*, *WordPress*, *HubSpot* or a whole category like *Ecommerce* – and only pay for those
- **$0.0019 per website analyzed** – unreachable, blocked and filtered-out websites are free

### What you get per website

| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| `domain`, `finalUrl`, `statusCode` | `colourpop.com`, `https://colourpop.com/`, `200` |
| `title`, `description`, `language` | homepage title, meta description and `lang` |
| `technologyNames` | `["Shopify", "Klaviyo", "Google Tag Manager", "Cloudflare", …]` |
| `technologies` | per technology: `name`, `version`, `confidence`, `categories`, `website`, `saas`, `openSource` (+ `evidence` if enabled) |
| `technologiesByCategory` | `{"Ecommerce": ["Shopify"], "Analytics": ["Google Analytics"], …}` |
| `dns` | `emailProvider`, `emailSendingServices`, `verifiedServices`, `dnsHosting`, `nameservers` |
| `socialLinks`, `emails` | `{"instagram": [...], "linkedin": [...]}`, `["hello@example.com"]` |

A run summary with the most common technologies across your list is saved to the key-value store as `SUMMARY`.

### Input

| Field | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `urls` | – | Domains or homepage URLs (`example.com`, `https://www.example.com/sv/`) |
| `technologyFilter` | empty | Only return websites using any of these technology or category names (e.g. `Shopify`, `WordPress`, `Ecommerce`, `Live chat`). Non-matches are free. |
| `checkDns` | `true` | Email provider, email-sending services, verified SaaS and DNS hosting from MX/TXT/NS records |
| `extractSocialLinks` | `true` | Social profile links and `mailto:` emails on the homepage |
| `includeEvidence` | `false` | Which signal matched each technology (header, cookie, meta, script URL, HTML, DNS) |
| `maxConcurrency` | `10` | Websites analyzed in parallel (1–30) |

#### Example: find Shopify stores in a list

```json
{
  "urls": ["www.allbirds.com", "colourpop.com", "www.glossier.com", "www.nike.com"],
  "technologyFilter": ["Shopify"],
  "checkDns": false,
  "extractSocialLinks": true,
  "includeEvidence": false
}
```

### Pricing

Pay per event: **$0.0019 per website analyzed** (`domain-analyzed`). That is $1.90 per 1,000 websites. Websites that cannot be reached, that block automated requests, invalid inputs and websites removed by `technologyFilter` are **free**. The Actor stops cleanly when your maximum charge per run is reached.

### How it works and limits

The Actor downloads each homepage once (honest bot user agent, no browser), and matches HTTP headers, cookies, meta tags, script URLs, inline scripts, HTML and DOM patterns against the fingerprint database, then applies "implies" rules (e.g. WordPress → PHP, MySQL). Optional DNS checks use public DNS-over-HTTPS (Cloudflare, Google).

- Technologies that only reveal themselves after JavaScript runs in a real browser may be missed. Globals set in inline scripts (e.g. `__NEXT_DATA__`) are detected.
- Only the homepage (or the URL you give) is analyzed, not the whole site.
- Some sites behind aggressive bot protection return 403/429; those are returned as free `error` records with whatever header/DNS signals were visible.
- "Verified services" come from public DNS TXT verification records: they show that the organization has an account with that vendor, not that the tool runs on the website.

### Use cases

- **Lead generation**: build lists of Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento or HubSpot users from a domain list
- **Sales intelligence & enrichment**: add tech stack, email provider and social links to CRM accounts
- **Competitor research**: see which analytics, A/B testing and marketing tools competitors run
- **Agencies & security teams**: audit CMS versions and third-party scripts across a portfolio

### Data source and license

Technology fingerprints come from the open-source [webappanalyzer](https://github.com/enthec/webappanalyzer) project, licensed under **GPL-3.0** (bundled unmodified in `src/data`, license in `src/data/LICENSE-webappanalyzer`). This Actor is not affiliated with BuiltWith or Wappalyzer.

Only publicly available information (what every visitor's browser receives, and public DNS) is collected. You are responsible for using the results in line with applicable laws such as the GDPR, especially for any personal data like named email addresses.

# Actor input Schema

## `urls` (type: `array`):

Domains or homepage URLs to analyze, e.g. shopify.com or https://www.example.com/. One result per website. Duplicates are skipped.

## `technologyFilter` (type: `array`):

Lead-gen mode: only websites using at least one of these technologies or categories are returned and charged, e.g. Shopify, WordPress, HubSpot, Ecommerce, Live chat. Non-matching websites are free. Leave empty to return every website.

## `checkDns` (type: `boolean`):

Look up MX, TXT and NS records (DNS over HTTPS) to detect the email provider (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365...), email-sending services (SendGrid, Mailchimp...), verified SaaS tools (Atlassian, Facebook, HubSpot...) and DNS hosting.

## `extractSocialLinks` (type: `boolean`):

Collect social profile links (LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, GitHub...) and mailto: emails found on the homepage.

## `includeEvidence` (type: `boolean`):
