## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## App Store Reviews Scraper (iOS app reviews, no login)

You get **public Apple App Store reviews for any iPhone or iPad app as clean JSON/CSV**: rating, title, text, app version, author, date and helpful votes. Many apps and countries in one run. No Apple account, no API key.
**Price: $0.40 per 1,000 reviews** (pay per event: `review` = $0.0004). Error rows are free.

### Why use it

- **Find what broke after a release**: filter 1-2 star reviews and group by `version`.
- **Competitor and market research**: compare your app with rivals, country by country.
- **Support triage and feature mining**: feed real user text into sentiment analysis or topic models on a schedule.

### Input

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `apps` | Numeric app ids or `apps.apple.com` URLs (the number after `id`) |
| `countries` | Two-letter store codes, default `["us"]` |
| `maxReviewsPerApp` | Max reviews per app and country, newest first (default 200, max 500) |
| `minRating` / `maxRating` | Optional star filters (1-5). Defaults 1 and 5 keep everything |
| `sinceDate` | Optional ISO date such as `2026-01-01`. Older reviews are skipped |

```json
{
  "apps": ["https://apps.apple.com/us/app/instagram/id389801252", "284882215"],
  "countries": ["us", "gb", "de"],
  "maxReviewsPerApp": 200,
  "minRating": 1,
  "maxRating": 2,
  "sinceDate": "2026-01-01"
}
```

Error row example: `{ "app": "abc", "error": "Not a valid App Store app id or apps.apple.com URL." }`

### Example output

Illustrative row showing the real fields (values are sample data):

| appId | appName | country | reviewId | rating | title | text | version | author | date | voteSum | voteCount |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 389801252 | Instagram | us | 1111111111 | 1 | Keeps crashing | Crashes on launch since the update. | 350.0.1 | angryUser | 2026-10-18T17:15:00.000Z | -1 | 9 |

Every row also has `reviewUrl` and `scrapedAt`.

```json
{
  "appId": "389801252", "appName": "Instagram", "country": "us", "reviewId": "1111111111",
  "title": "Keeps crashing", "text": "Crashes on launch since the update.", "rating": 1,
  "version": "350.0.1", "author": "angryUser", "date": "2026-10-18T17:15:00.000Z",
  "voteSum": -1, "voteCount": 9,
  "reviewUrl": "https://itunes.apple.com/us/review?id=389801252&type=Purple%20Software",
  "scrapedAt": "2026-10-20T05:56:37.786Z"
}
```

### Use with AI agents / MCP

Call this actor from any AI agent through the Apify MCP server (`https://mcp.apify.com`) or the Apify API, using the actor id `NCY19KG5Zb0pfxuxT`. An agent can ask "what do UK users hate about this app since the last update?". Output is flat JSON with stable ids (`reviewId`), so an agent can group by `version`, count 1-star reviews or summarise `text`. For daily monitoring, schedule the actor with `sinceDate` set to yesterday.

Sample tool input an agent can send:

```json
{
  "apps": ["389801252"],
  "countries": ["gb"],
  "maxReviewsPerApp": 100,
  "minRating": 1,
  "maxRating": 2,
  "sinceDate": "2026-10-01"
}
```

### Limits and notes

- Apple's public feed shows the most recent written reviews only: up to 500 per app and country (10 pages of 50). Add countries to collect more.
- Written reviews only: no star-only ratings and no developer replies.
- The app must be available in the chosen country store.
- About one request per second, no proxies. Set a maximum cost per run in the run options; the actor stops cleanly when it is reached.

### FAQ

**Where do I find the app id?** The App Store URL ends in `id` plus a number, for example `.../id389801252`.

**Why fewer reviews than I asked for?** The app may have fewer written reviews in that country, or your filters removed some.
