## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

### Giant Tiger Products Scraper — Canadian Discount Retail

***

Scrape **Giant Tiger** (gianttiger.com), the Canadian discount retailer, as structured product data. Point the Actor at the site root for the whole catalogue, at any collection (grocery, dairy, home, apparel, toys…) or at a search keyword, and it returns every product with its CAD price, compare-at price, availability, variants, SKU, image, tags, category path and description.

**Data source:** the store's public Shopify JSON endpoints (`/products.json`, `/collections/{handle}/products.json`, `/search/suggest.json`). No login, no cookies, no browser — 250 products per request.

#### ⚙️ **Configuration**

| Parameter | Type | Default | Description |
|-----------|------|---------|-------------|
| `url` | String | *(required)* | A gianttiger.com URL: the site root for the whole catalogue, a collection such as `https://www.gianttiger.com/collections/grocery`, or a search such as `https://www.gianttiger.com/search?q=towel`. |
| `maxItems` | Integer | `0` | Max products to return (0 = all). The full catalogue holds tens of thousands of products (250 per request), so set a limit unless you need everything. |
| `proxyConfiguration` | Object | Apify Proxy (auto) | Proxy settings. |

##### Example Input

```json
{
  "url": "https://www.gianttiger.com/collections/grocery",
  "maxItems": 100
}
```

##### Getting your start URL

1. Browse gianttiger.com to a department or category — the address looks like `https://www.gianttiger.com/collections/dairy-and-eggs`
2. Copy the full URL from your browser and paste it as the `url` input (`?page=` and sort parameters are ignored; the French `/fr/` prefix is accepted)
3. Use `https://www.gianttiger.com` for the complete catalogue, or `https://www.gianttiger.com/search?q=keyword` for a keyword

##### Notes

- `price` is the lowest variant price; `compareAtPrice` is filled only when the product is marked down. `variantTitles` lists sizes / colours for multi-variant products (apparel, footwear) and is `null` for single-variant items such as groceries.
- `category` is derived from the store's `L1/L2/L3_category_en` tags; the raw `tags` field also carries the French labels, province availability (`mms_province_code`) and shipping flags (`shippable`, `in_store_only`).
- Search URLs use Shopify's predictive search, which returns the **10 best matches only**, without variants, SKU or dates. For complete results use the collection the product belongs to.
- Shopify's catalogue feed does not expose per-store stock; `available` reflects online orderability.
