- First public version.
- Up to 10,000 VAT numbers per run, with or without country prefix; spaces, dots and dashes are ignored; GR is read as EL and UK as GB; duplicates are checked once.
- Offline format and check-digit validation for all 27 EU member states plus Northern Ireland (XI), following the structures in the VIES FAQ and each country's published check-digit algorithm (cross-checked against python-stdnum).
- VIES check through the European Commission's official REST service: valid / invalid, name and address where the member state shares them, request date, and a consultation number when you enter your own VAT number.
- Retries for MS\_UNAVAILABLE, MS\_MAX\_CONCURRENT\_REQ, TIMEOUT, SERVICE\_UNAVAILABLE, HTTP 429/5xx with growing pauses; countries that are down are set aside and retried in rounds at the end of the run (2 minutes by default); still unanswered numbers are reported as `unavailable`.
- GB numbers: format check only, marked `not-checked` with a pointer to HMRC (not in VIES since Brexit).
- Pay per event: `vat-checked` at $0.002, only for definitive valid/invalid answers. Unavailable, not-checked and format-only rows are free.
