## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Metacritic Scraper

Metacritic Scraper by Omkar Cloud gets you 🎯 accurate, 🔍 detailed Metacritic game, movie and TV data.

Metacritic Scraper beats it, so you get the data, and can successfully complete your project.

**$1 per 1,000 titles.** And with Apify's free plan you get $5 of credit every month, so your first **~5,000 titles each month are free**.

This is an excellent Actor made by Omkar Cloud, which is Rated Excellent — [4.7 based on 30 reviews on Trustpilot](https://www.trustpilot.com/review/omkar.cloud).

👉 [**Try Metacritic Scraper free**](https://apify.com/omkar-cloud/metacritic-scraper) — your first ~5,000 titles are Free.

### What can I get

- 🔎 **Search 215K+ games, movies & TV shows** — Metascore, user score, release date, rating, genres, platforms, poster & the metacritic.com link, or search people by name
- 🏆 **Every Metacritic list** — top rated of all time or of any year, new releases, upcoming, in theaters, trending and the full browse catalogue, filtered by genre, platform, streaming network and minimum Metascore
- 🎬 **Full title pages on demand** — both score breakdowns, cast & crew, studios, developers & publishers, awards, trailer, IMDb id, the best positive, mixed and negative reviews, related titles & news — and for games every platform's own Metascore, retailer prices and player stats
- 🔗 **Any metacritic.com URL** — paste movie, TV or game links (even `?platform=pc`) and get the full page back

### Why Metacritic Scraper

Most other Metacritic scrapers fail you in one of four ways:

- 🗄️ **Inaccurate, cached, stale data**
- 🧩 **Low-detail data** — a title and a score, never the cast, awards, reviews or per-platform scores
- 💸 **Pay more to get the same data** — start fees, tiers and paid "enrichment" events
- 🪦 **Works today, breaks next month** — nobody maintains it

Metacritic Scraper is scraped live on every run, priced honestly, and actively maintained.

### FAQ

#### How many titles do I get per search or list?

The Actor keeps paging (50 titles a page) until it has **Max Results per Query** titles or Metacritic runs out. Lists go thousands deep — the game catalogue alone holds 178K+ titles, 14K+ of them with a Metascore. Titles found twice in a run — the same game under two searches, or in a search and a list — are scraped and billed only once.

#### What does "Scrape Full Title Pages" add?

The whole title page on top of the card: `metascore` and `user_score` with positive / mixed / negative counts and sentiment, `tagline`, `cast` and `crew` with roles, `companies`, `awards`, the `video` trailer, `imdb_id`, `critic_reviews` and `user_reviews` highlights (featured, positive, mixed, negative), `related_titles` and `related_news` — and for games `platforms` with each platform's own Metascore, `developers`, `publishers`, `franchises`, `where_to_buy` retailer prices and GameFAQs `player_stats`. Pasted title URLs are always scraped in full; a game URL with `?platform=pc` gets that platform's scores.

#### Which lists can I scrape?

**Top rated** (all-time, or of the Year you set), **New releases** (newest reviewed titles), **Upcoming** (not out yet, soonest first), **In theaters** (movies), **Trending** (this week's movies and TV) and **Browse** (every title, sorted by Metascore, user score, popularity or release date, with a year window). Filter by genre, game platform (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, PC…), streaming network (Netflix, HBO Max, Prime Video, Disney+…) and minimum Metascore.

#### Can I get every review?

Every detailed row carries the featured, positive, mixed and negative critic and user reviews Metacritic highlights. For every review of a title — paginated, filterable by sentiment and platform — use the [Metacritic Reviews Scraper](https://apify.com/omkar-cloud/metacritic-reviews-scraper).

#### Is the data live?

Yes. Every run fetches Metacritic live — Metascores, user scores, review counts and prices are as fresh as the site itself.

#### What does it cost?

$0.001 per title — $1 per 1,000, flat on every plan, with no start fee. Full title pages add $0.001 per title ($2 per 1,000 all in), charged only when the page comes back — if it can't be fetched you keep the card at the standard rate. People rows cost the standard rate. Apify's free plan gives you $5 of credit every month, which is 5,000 titles or 2,500 fully-detailed titles free every month.

#### Is it legal to scrape Metacritic?

The Actor collects publicly available title data — scores, credits, review quotes and posters — without personal information beyond the public names of cast, crew, critics and reviewers. Please review Metacritic's terms of use and make sure your use complies with the law of your jurisdiction.

# Actor input Schema

## `queries` (type: `array`):

Search phrases exactly as you would type them into the site's search box (`zelda`, `the last of us`), or pasted metacritic.com URLs: a movie, TV show or game page (`https://www.metacritic.com/movie/oppenheimer/`) is scraped in full, a search page (`/search/zelda/`) is searched. Rows carry a `search_query` field so you can tell searches apart.

## `searchType` (type: `string`):

Restrict searches to one kind.

## `lists` (type: `array`):

Which lists to scrape, for every type picked in List Types. Rows carry `source` (the list) and `list_type`. In theaters is movies only; trending is movies and TV only.

## `listTypes` (type: `array`):

Scrape each list for these kinds of titles.

## `year` (type: `integer`):

Top rated only: the best titles released in this year. Leave empty for all-time.

## `yearFrom` (type: `integer`):

Browse only: titles released in or after this year.

## `yearTo` (type: `integer`):

Browse only: titles released in or before this year.

## `genres` (type: `array`):

Only titles in these genres (lists only), matched case-insensitively. Games and movies/TV have their own genres — e.g. `Action RPG`, `Open-World`, `Shooter` for games; `Comedy`, `Drama`, `Sci-Fi`, `Horror` for movies and TV.

## `platforms` (type: `array`):

Only games on these platforms (lists only; ignored for movies and TV).

## `networks` (type: `array`):

Only movies and TV shows on these services (lists only; ignored for games).

## `metascoreMin` (type: `integer`):

Top rated and Browse only: skip titles scored below this (0–100).

## `sort` (type: `string`):

Order of the Browse list.

## `maxResultsPerQuery` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of titles to scrape per search query and per list (each list × type counts separately). Use this to control your cost (1,000 titles ≈ $1). Ignored for pasted title URLs.

## `scrapeDetails` (type: `boolean`):

When enabled, every movie, TV show and game found is also scraped in full — the complete Metascore and user score breakdowns (positive / mixed / negative counts and sentiment), tagline, description, cast and crew with roles, studios, developers and publishers, awards, trailer, IMDb id, the featured, positive, mixed and negative critic and user reviews, related titles and news, and for games every platform with its own Metascore plus retailer prices and GameFAQs player stats. Still one dataset row per title, billed once at the detailed-title rate instead of the standard rate (1,000 detailed titles ≈ $2 vs $1 standard). Pasted title URLs are always scraped in full.
