## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Product Recalls Scraper: US CPSC consumer product recalls

**$1 per 1,000 recalls. Platform usage included. No rental, no minimum.**

The four most used CPSC recall actors on Apify Store charge $2.00 to $10.00 per 1,000 results (Store prices checked 9 October 2026). This actor returns the same kind of data from the official CPSC recall service for $1.

[Open it in Apify Console](https://console.apify.com/actors/u0n6KVaUfpShtAccJ/input)

### What it costs

| Recalls | This actor | Most used CPSC recall actors on the Store |
|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | $1.00 | $2.00 to $10.00 |
| 10,000 | $10.00 | $20 to $100 |
| 100,000 | $100.00 | $200 to $1,000 |

Plus $0.001 per run. A daily run that checks for recalls published or revised since yesterday costs a fraction of a cent: a day with 20 recalls costs about $0.02, or about $0.60 a month.

### Why people switch

- **One flat price.** Platform usage is included, so the bill follows the number of recalls and nothing else.
- **The whole record.** Hazards, injuries, remedies and remedy options, units sold, manufacturers, importers, distributors, retailers, countries, contact details and images.
- **Filters that work.** The CPSC service's own hazard filter returns nothing even when matching recalls exist (checked 9 October 2026). This actor applies the hazard, company, country and keyword filters itself, so they do what they say.
- **Built for monitoring.** Use `updatedSince` to catch recalls the CPSC revised after the first announcement.

### Quick start

1. Open the actor and press **Start**. The default input returns the newest recalls.
2. Or paste this input:

```json
{ "productNames": ["crib"], "dateFrom": "2024-01-01", "maxItems": 100 }
```

3. Download the results as JSON, CSV or Excel, or read them through the API.

### Use it from code

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/one_dollar_store~consumer-product-recalls-cpsc/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"hazard": "fire", "dateFrom": "2025-01-01", "maxItems": 100}'
```

```python
from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN")
run = client.actor("one_dollar_store/consumer-product-recalls-cpsc").call(
    run_input={"hazard": "fire", "dateFrom": "2025-01-01", "maxItems": 100}
)
for item in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
    print(item["recallDate"], item["title"])
```

### Use it from an AI assistant

Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other assistants can call this actor through Apify's MCP server. Add it with this server address:

```
https://mcp.apify.com?tools=one_dollar_store/consumer-product-recalls-cpsc
```

Then ask, for example: "Show me the 20 latest CPSC recalls with a fire hazard."

### Switching from another CPSC recalls actor

Most CPSC recall actors take a product name, a date range and a result limit. Here they are `productNames`, `dateFrom`, `dateTo` and `maxItems`. The core fields are `recallId`, `recallNumber`, `recallDate`, `title`, `hazards` and `url`.

### Input

| Field | Type | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| `productNames` | list of text | none | Product names, one search per line (`crib`, `space heater`). Matches any part of the name. |
| `keyword` | text | none | A word or phrase in the recall title or description. |
| `manufacturer` | text | none | Part of a company name: manufacturer, importer, distributor or retailer. |
| `hazard` | text | none | Words in the hazard text, for example `fire` or `choking`. |
| `country` | text | none | Country where the product was made, for example `China`. |
| `dateFrom`, `dateTo` | text | none | Recall dates as `YYYY-MM-DD`. The service starts in 1973. |
| `updatedSince` | text | none | Only recalls published or revised on or after this date. |
| `maxItems` | number | 100 | Stop after this many recalls, newest first. Minimum 10. |

All filters are optional and can be combined. Example:

```json
{
  "productNames": ["stroller", "car seat"],
  "hazard": "fall",
  "dateFrom": "2023-01-01",
  "maxItems": 200
}
```

### Output fields

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `recallId`, `recallNumber` | CPSC ids. The number can end in a letter. |
| `recallDate`, `lastPublishDate` | Announcement date and the date the notice was last published or revised. |
| `title`, `description`, `url` | Recall title, description and the notice on cpsc.gov. |
| `products` | Each recalled product: `name`, `description`, `model`, `type`, `unitsAffected`. |
| `productTypes`, `unitsAffected` | Product types, and the unit counts as the CPSC states them. |
| `hazards`, `injuries`, `remedies`, `remedyOptions` | Hazard text, injury reports, what to do, and `Repair`, `Replace` or `Refund`. |
| `manufacturers`, `importers`, `distributors`, `retailers` | Companies named in the notice. Retailers include where and when it was sold. |
| `manufacturerCountries` | Countries of manufacture. |
| `consumerContact` | How consumers reach the firm. |
| `upcs`, `imageUrls`, `jointRecallLinks` | UPC codes, up to 10 image links, and links to recalls announced with other agencies. |

Fields the CPSC leaves empty are left out of the row. Unit counts are text because the CPSC writes them as text, for example "About 1,150".

### Sample results

### Limits

- The data is what the CPSC publishes for consumer products sold in the US. It does not cover recalls by other agencies, such as vehicles (NHTSA) or food and drugs (FDA, USDA).
- The CPSC service has no paging. The actor asks for one date window at a time, newest first, and stops when it has enough rows.
- Hazard, company, country and keyword filters are applied by the actor on the full record. A rare filter over all years reads many windows, so it takes longer than a recent one.
- Unit counts, prices and sale dates are written as free text by the CPSC. The actor passes them on as text.
- Some older recalls have no hazard text, images or company names.
- Images belong to the CPSC or to the firms. The CPSC notes that some images are licensed from third parties and may need permission for other uses.

### FAQ

**How much does it cost to scrape 10,000 CPSC recalls?**
$10, plus $0.001 for each run.

**Do I pay for compute or proxy on top?**
No. Platform usage is included in the $1 per 1,000 price. The actor needs no proxy.

**Where does the data come from?**
From the public recall web service of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (saferproducts.gov), the same recalls shown on cpsc.gov. Source: U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

**Is it legal?**
The actor reads public data only, with no login. The CPSC states that its recall notices may be copied and distributed freely, and asks that you credit the CPSC and do not imply its endorsement. Check image rights before you reuse pictures.

**Is this an official CPSC product?**
No. It is an independent tool and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the CPSC.

**How do I monitor new recalls?**
Schedule a daily run with `updatedSince` set to yesterday. The CPSC revises many notices after the first announcement, and `updatedSince` catches those too. Use `recallId` to match rows you already have.

**Do I need an Apify account?**
Yes. Actors run from an Apify account, and a free account is enough to start: it includes $5 of platform usage every month. You can [sign up here](https://www.apify.com?fpr=ymnoit). This is a referral link and it costs you nothing.

**Is there a limit on the free plan?**
Yes. A run started from a free plan account delivers the first 10 results, then ends with a message and a link to the plans. Any paid plan returns everything you ask for, up to your own limit. The price per result is the same on every plan.
