## Pricing

from $1.00 / 1,000 results

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## SEC Form 4 Scraper: insider buys and sells by ticker

**$1 per 1,000 transactions. Platform usage included. No rental, no minimum.**

The four most used insider trading actors on Apify Store charge $4.50 to $10.00 per 1,000 results (Store prices checked 20 October 2026). This actor returns Form 4 insider transactions for $1.

[Open it in Apify Console](https://console.apify.com/actors/HBhKlqTSI4kyquTZB/input)

### What it costs

| Transactions | This actor | Most used insider trading actors on the Store |
|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | $1.00 | $4.50 to $10.00 |
| 10,000 | $10.00 | $45 to $100 |
| 100,000 | $100.00 | $450 to $1,000 |

Plus $0.001 per run. Watching 20 tickers every day, with about 30 new transaction rows a day, costs about $0.03 a day, or roughly $1 a month.

### Why people switch

- **One flat price.** Compute is included, so the bill follows the number of rows and nothing else. A test run of 150 rows measured about $0.008 of platform cost per 1,000 rows.
- **One row per transaction.** Every line of a Form 4 becomes a row with the insider, their role (director, officer title, 10% owner), date, transaction code in plain words, shares, price, value, shares held afterwards, direct or indirect ownership, the Rule 10b5-1 box and the footnotes the filer wrote.
- **Filters for the trades you care about.** Keep only open market purchases or sales, set a smallest trade value, or limit the filing dates.
- **Straight from the SEC.** It reads the filings on sec.gov, with no key and no third party in between, and keeps well under the SEC's request limit.

### Quick start

1. Open the actor, type a ticker such as `AAPL`, press **Start**.
2. Or paste this input:

```json
{ "tickers": ["AAPL"], "transactionCodes": ["S"], "filedFrom": "2026-01-01", "maxItems": 100 }
```

3. Download the results as JSON, CSV or Excel, or read them through the API.

### Use it from code

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/one_dollar_store~sec-form-4-insider-trades/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"tickers": ["AAPL"], "maxItems": 50}'
```

```python
from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN")
run = client.actor("one_dollar_store/sec-form-4-insider-trades").call(
    run_input={"tickers": ["AAPL"], "maxItems": 50}
)
for item in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
    print(item["transactionDate"], item["insiderName"], item["transactionCode"], item["shares"], item.get("pricePerShare"))
```

### Use it from an AI assistant

Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other assistants can call this actor through Apify's MCP server. Add it with this server address:

```
https://mcp.apify.com?tools=one_dollar_store/sec-form-4-insider-trades
```

Then ask, for example: "Show every open market sale of more than $500,000 by Microsoft insiders filed this year."

### Switching from another Form 4 actor

Most Form 4 and insider trading actors take a ticker and a result limit. Here they are `tickers` (a list, so one run can cover many companies) and `maxItems`. The core fields are `insiderName`, `relationship`, `transactionDate`, `transactionCode`, `shares`, `pricePerShare` and `totalValueUsd`.

### Input

| Field | Type | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| `tickers` | list of text | none | Tickers such as `AAPL` or `BRK-B`, or CIK numbers such as `320193`. Required. |
| `transactionCodes` | list | all | Keep only these Form 4 codes: `P` purchase, `S` sale, `A` award, `M` exercise, `F` tax withholding, `G` gift, `D`, `X`, `C`, `J`. |
| `includeDerivatives` | true or false | false | Also return the derivative table: options, restricted stock units and similar. |
| `includeAmendments` | true or false | false | Also return amended filings (4/A). They can repeat a trade already reported. |
| `filedFrom`, `filedTo` | text | none | Filing dates, `YYYY-MM-DD`. A recent `filedFrom` makes the run faster. |
| `minValueUsd` | number | none | Only rows where shares times price reaches this many dollars. Rows without a price drop out. |
| `maxFilingsPerCompany` | number | 300 | Most filings to open per company, newest first. |
| `maxItems` | number | 100 | Total transaction rows for the run, 10 to 10,000. |

Example:

```json
{
  "tickers": ["MSFT", "NVDA"],
  "transactionCodes": ["P", "S"],
  "minValueUsd": 500000,
  "filedFrom": "2026-01-01",
  "maxItems": 500
}
```

### Output fields

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `ticker`, `issuerName`, `issuerCik` | The company whose shares were traded. |
| `insiderName`, `insiderCik` | The person who filed. A joint filing lists every person, separated by semicolons. |
| `relationship`, `isDirector`, `isOfficer`, `isTenPercentOwner`, `isOther`, `officerTitle` | The insider's role as ticked on the form. |
| `formType`, `filedDate`, `periodOfReport`, `accession`, `filingUrl` | Which filing the row came from, and a link to its XML on sec.gov. |
| `transactionDate`, `securityTitle`, `isDerivative` | When, what, and whether the line is from the derivative table. |
| `transactionCode`, `transactionType`, `acquiredDisposed` | The Form 4 code, its plain words, and A (acquired) or D (disposed). |
| `shares`, `pricePerShare`, `totalValueUsd`, `sharesOwnedAfter` | Size, price, shares times price, and the holding after the trade. |
| `ownership`, `ownershipNature` | Direct or Indirect, and how an indirect holding is held. |
| `conversionOrExercisePrice`, `exerciseDate`, `expirationDate`, `underlyingSecurityTitle`, `underlyingShares` | Derivative lines only. |
| `rule10b51Plan` | True when the filer ticked the Rule 10b5-1 box. The box covers the whole filing, not one line. |
| `footnotes` | Footnote text the filer attached to the line, cut at 800 characters. |

### Sample results

Real rows from a test run on 20 October 2026. A few fields (CIK numbers, accession number, security title, plain words for the code) and the long footnote text are left out here to keep the page short; every row has them.

### Limits

- **One row per transaction line, not per filing.** One Form 4 can hold many lines, so `maxItems` counts lines.
- **Newest filings first, up to a cap.** The actor opens at most `maxFilingsPerCompany` filings per company (default 300). Filters such as one transaction code are applied after a filing is read, so a rare code can need a higher cap. A test that scanned 300 Apple filings for purchases took about 42 seconds.
- **Pace.** The SEC allows 10 requests a second. The actor sends at most 8 a second and names itself and its Apify page in the User-Agent, as the SEC asks.
- **Form 4 only.** Forms 3 and 5, Form 144 and Schedule 13D or 13G are not included. Older filings that were made as plain text and have no XML file are skipped and counted in the run summary.
- **Companies by ticker or CIK.** Tickers are matched against the SEC's current ticker list. For a company that has changed ticker or delisted, use its CIK number.
- **Fields the filer leaves out are empty.** Gifts and many awards have no price, so `pricePerShare` and `totalValueUsd` are missing. Role flags are missing when the filer did not tick them.
- **Several reporting persons.** On a joint filing `insiderName` lists everyone, and the role flags come from the first person named.
- **`rule10b51Plan` covers the whole filing.** The SEC form has one box for the filing, and forms filed before April 2023 do not have it.
- **As filed.** Rows show what the filer reported. The SEC is the source of record, and nothing here is investment advice.
- **Free plan.** A run from a free Apify plan returns the first 10 results.

### FAQ

**What is the cheapest Form 4 insider trading scraper on Apify?**
This actor costs $1 per 1,000 transactions with platform usage included. The four most used insider trading actors on the Store charged $4.50 to $10.00 per 1,000 when we checked on 20 October 2026.

**How much does it cost to scrape 10,000 insider transactions?**
$10, plus $0.001 for each run.

**Do I pay for compute or proxy on top?**
No. Platform usage is included in the $1 per 1,000 price, and no proxy is needed.

**Where does the data come from?**
From the SEC's EDGAR system: the list of each company's filings on data.sec.gov, and then the Form 4 XML file of each filing on sec.gov. No key and no third party is involved.

**Is it legal?**
The actor reads public data only, with no login. Form 4 filings are public records that the SEC publishes for everyone. How you use them is up to you: follow the SEC's fair access rules, the terms of any service you pass the data to, and the law where you live.

**Is this an official SEC product?**
No. It is an independent tool and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

**How do I see only open market purchases?**
Set `transactionCodes` to `["P"]`. Raise `maxFilingsPerCompany` if purchases are rare for the company, because most Form 4 lines are sales, awards and tax withholding.

**Why does one sale show up next to an exercise and a tax line?**
An insider often exercises options or has shares vest (code `M`), has shares withheld for tax (`F`) and sells some on the market (`S`) in the same filing. Each is its own line. Filter by `transactionCodes` if you only want one kind.

**How do I follow insider trading every day?**
Schedule a daily run with `filedFrom` set to yesterday, and use `accession` to drop filings you already have.

**Do I need an Apify account?**
Yes. Actors run from an Apify account, and a free account is enough to start: it includes $5 of platform usage every month. You can [sign up here](https://www.apify.com?fpr=ymnoit). This is a referral link and it costs you nothing.

**Is there a limit on the free plan?**
Yes. A run started from a free plan account delivers the first 10 results, then ends with a message and a link to the plans. Any paid plan returns everything you ask for, up to your own limit. The price per result is the same on every plan.

### Changelog

- October 2026: first release.

# Actor input Schema

## `tickers` (type: `array`):

Stock tickers such as AAPL or BRK-B, or SEC CIK numbers such as 320193, of the companies whose insiders you want to follow. One company per line.

## `transactionCodes` (type: `array`):

Only return transactions with these Form 4 codes. P is an open market purchase and S an open market sale. Leave empty for every code.

## `includeDerivatives` (type: `boolean`):

Also return options, restricted stock units and other derivative lines. Off by default: rows are then common stock and other non derivative transactions only.

## `includeAmendments` (type: `boolean`):

Amendments restate an earlier Form 4, so turning this on can return the same trade twice.

## `filedFrom` (type: `string`):

Only filings made on or after this date. Format YYYY-MM-DD. The actor stops reading older filings, so a recent date makes the run faster.

## `filedTo` (type: `string`):

Only filings made on or before this date. Format YYYY-MM-DD.

## `minValueUsd` (type: `integer`):

Only rows where shares times price is at least this many dollars. Rows with no price, such as awards, are left out when this is set.

## `maxFilingsPerCompany` (type: `integer`):

The most Form 4 filings to open for each company, newest first. Raise it when a filter such as one transaction code leaves few rows per filing.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

The run stops after this many transaction rows in total. Minimum 10.
