## Pricing

from $1.00 / 1,000 results

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## USAspending Scraper: Federal Contracts, Grants and Loans

**$1 per 1,000 awards. Platform usage included. No rental, no minimum.**

The four most used USAspending actors on Apify Store charge $2.00 to $12.00 per 1,000 awards, and one or more add platform usage on top (Store prices checked 9 October 2026). This actor returns the same kind of data for $1.

[Open it in Apify Console](https://console.apify.com/actors/X3bd50ke0YwvRtfgq/input)

### What it costs

| Awards | This actor | Most used USAspending actors on the Store |
|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | $1.00 | $2.00 to $12.00 |
| 10,000 | $10.00 | $20 to $120 |
| 100,000 | $100.00 | $200 to $1,200 |

Plus $0.001 per run. A weekly pull of the 500 largest new awards in one agency costs about $0.50 per run, or about $2 a month.

### Why people switch

- **One flat price.** Compute is included, so the bill follows the number of awards and nothing else. The API needs no proxy and no key.
- **Every award group.** Contracts, contract vehicles (IDVs), grants, direct payments, loans and other assistance, each with the fields that group has.
- **Real filters.** Keywords, recipient names, awarding agency, place of performance state, NAICS codes, amount range and date range.
- **Agency names are checked.** A name is matched against the official list of 111 federal agencies, and a wrong one gets suggestions instead of an empty result.
- **Links back to the source.** Every row has the USAspending award page.

### Quick start

1. Open the actor, type a keyword such as `cybersecurity`, press **Start**.
2. Or paste this input:

```json
{ "keywords": ["cybersecurity"], "awardTypes": ["contracts"], "dateFrom": "2026-01-01", "minAmount": 1000000, "maxItems": 200 }
```

3. Download the results as JSON, CSV or Excel, or read them through the API.

### Use it from code

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/one_dollar_store~usaspending-awards-scraper/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"keywords": ["cybersecurity"], "awardTypes": ["contracts"], "maxItems": 100}'
```

```python
from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN")
run = client.actor("one_dollar_store/usaspending-awards-scraper").call(
    run_input={"keywords": ["cybersecurity"], "awardTypes": ["contracts"], "maxItems": 100}
)
for item in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
    print(item["awardId"], item["recipientName"], item["awardAmount"])
```

### Use it from an AI assistant

Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other assistants can call this actor through Apify's MCP server. Add it with this server address:

```
https://mcp.apify.com?tools=one_dollar_store/usaspending-awards-scraper
```

Then ask, for example: "Find the 25 largest Department of Energy grants since January 2026 and list the recipients."

### Switching from another USAspending actor

Most USAspending actors take keywords, an award type, an agency and a result limit. Here they are `keywords`, `awardTypes`, `awardingAgencies` and `maxItems`. The core output fields are `awardId`, `recipientName`, `awardAmount`, `awardingAgency`, `startDate`, `endDate` and `description`.

### Input

| Field | Type | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| `keywords` | list of text | none | Words searched in award descriptions and recipient names. An award matching any keyword is returned. Each keyword needs 3 or more characters. |
| `recipientNames` | list of text | none | Recipient company or organization names. |
| `awardingAgencies` | list of text | none | Federal agencies by name, for example `Department of Defense`. Checked against the official list. |
| `awardTypes` | list | `contracts` | `contracts`, `idvs`, `grants`, `direct_payments`, `loans`, `other`. Each type is searched in turn. |
| `dateFrom`, `dateTo` | text | none | Date range as `2026-01-31`. The data begins 2007-10-01. |
| `dateType` | text | `action_date` | `action_date` or `date_signed`. |
| `minAmount`, `maxAmount` | number | none | Amount range in US dollars. |
| `states` | list of text | none | Place of performance states, as two letter codes. |
| `naicsCodes` | list of text | none | NAICS industry codes. Contracts and contract vehicles only. |
| `sortBy` | text | `amount` | `amount` (largest first) or `startDate` (newest first). |
| `maxItems` | number | 100 | Total awards for the run. Minimum 10. |

Example:

```json
{
  "keywords": ["solar", "battery storage"],
  "awardingAgencies": ["Department of Energy"],
  "awardTypes": ["grants", "contracts"],
  "dateFrom": "2025-10-01",
  "minAmount": 500000,
  "maxItems": 500
}
```

### Output fields

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `awardId`, `category`, `awardType` | The award's own id, the group it belongs to, and its type, for example `DELIVERY ORDER`. |
| `recipientName`, `recipientUei`, `recipientId` | Who got the award. |
| `awardingAgency`, `awardingSubAgency`, `fundingAgency`, `fundingSubAgency` | Which agencies awarded and funded it. |
| `awardAmount`, `totalOutlays`, `subsidyCost` | Total award value, money paid out so far, and for loans the subsidy cost. For loans `awardAmount` is the loan value. |
| `startDate`, `endDate`, `lastDateToOrder` | Award dates. Contract vehicles have a last date to order instead of an end date; loans use the issue date as the start. |
| `baseObligationDate`, `lastModifiedDate` | Contracts and vehicles: first obligation date. All: last change in USAspending. |
| `description` | The award description as filed. |
| `naicsCode`, `naicsDescription`, `pscCode`, `pscDescription` | Industry and product or service codes (contracts and vehicles). |
| `assistanceListings` | Number and title of the assistance programs (grants, loans and the like). |
| `placeOfPerformance`, `recipientLocation` | Address parts: city, county, state, ZIP, country, congressional district. |
| `url`, `generatedInternalId` | The USAspending award page and its stable id. |

Fields an award does not have are left out.

### Limits

- **One award type group per search.** The API does not mix contracts with grants. When you choose several types, each is searched in turn, in the order you gave, and they share your `maxItems`.
- **Keywords match any word.** An award that matches any one keyword is returned. Each keyword needs at least 3 characters.
- **Amounts are totals.** `awardAmount` is the award's total value to date, not one year's spending. For loans it is the loan value.
- **Data starts 2007-10-01.** Earlier awards are not in this search.
- **Prime awards only.** Subawards are not included.
- **Newest days can be thin.** Agencies report awards on their own schedule, so the most recent days may be incomplete.
- **Agency names.** Use the top level agency, for example `Department of Defense`. A name that matches no agency stops the run with suggestions.
- **Pace.** One call returns up to 100 awards and takes one to a few seconds. In tests, 50 awards took 4 to 9 seconds, and one slow first page took 17 seconds.
- **Results change.** USAspending updates records, so a repeated run can show different amounts or dates.

### FAQ

**What is the cheapest USAspending scraper on Apify?**
This actor costs $1 per 1,000 awards with platform usage included. The most used USAspending actors on the Store charged $2.00 to $12.00 per 1,000 when we checked on 9 October 2026.

**How much does it cost to scrape 10,000 federal awards?**
$10, plus $0.001 for each run.

**Do I pay for compute or proxy on top?**
No. Platform usage is included in the $1 per 1,000 price. The USAspending API is read directly, so no proxy is used.

**Where does the data come from?**
From the official USAspending.gov API, run by the US Department of the Treasury. The data is public. No key and no login are needed.

**How do I find the biggest awards to one company?**
Put the company name in `recipientNames`, leave `sortBy` on `amount`, and pick the award types you care about.

**How do I watch for new awards?**
Run it on a schedule with `dateFrom` set to your last run date and `sortBy` set to `startDate`. Use `generatedInternalId` to drop awards you already have.

**Is it legal?**
The actor reads public data only, with no login. Federal award data is published for public use. How you use it is up to you: follow the site's terms and the law where you live.

**Is this an official USAspending product?**
No. It is an independent tool and is not affiliated with or endorsed by USAspending.gov or the US government.

**Do I need an Apify account?**
Yes. Actors run from an Apify account, and a free account is enough to start: it includes $5 of platform usage every month. You can [sign up here](https://www.apify.com?fpr=ymnoit). This is a referral link and it costs you nothing.

**Is there a limit on the free plan?**
Yes. A run started from a free plan account delivers the first 10 results, then ends with a message and a link to the plans. Any paid plan returns everything you ask for, up to your own limit. The price per result is the same on every plan.
