## Pricing

from $1.00 / 1,000 results

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Website to Markdown Converter: clean page text for AI, search and notes

**$1 per 1,000 pages. Platform usage included. No rental, no minimum.**

Give it web page addresses and get one row per page with the page turned into clean Markdown: headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, code blocks and links are kept, while menus, footers, sidebars and cookie notices are dropped. It reads plain HTML over HTTP, with no browser. It can also follow links on the same site to convert a whole documentation section.

[Open it in Apify Console](https://console.apify.com/actors/RNwR6HlU7tng0zMdb/input)

### What it costs

| Pages | Price |
|---|---|
| 1,000 | $1.00 |
| 10,000 | $10.00 |
| 100,000 | $100.00 |

Plus $0.001 per run. One flat price, platform usage included, so there is no separate compute or proxy bill. A daily run of 300 pages costs about $0.30, or about $9 a month.

### Why use it

- **One flat price.** The bill follows the number of pages and nothing else. There is no browser or proxy behind it.
- **Structure kept, clutter dropped.** Headings, lists, GitHub style tables, fenced code blocks with their language, bold, italic and links come through. Each row also has a `headings` outline you can use to split text into chunks.
- **A crawl when you need one.** Set `maxDepth` to follow links on the same website, stay inside the start folder (for example one documentation section), and cap the pages per start address.
- **Empty pages are not charged.** A page that has no readable text in its HTML, or that returns an error, gives no row. It is listed in the run summary with the reason.

### Quick start

1. Open the actor, add one page address per line, press **Start**.
2. Or paste this input:

```json
{ "urls": ["https://docs.apify.com/platform/actors"], "maxItems": 10 }
```

3. Download the results as JSON, CSV or Excel, or read them through the API.

### Use it from code

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/one_dollar_store~website-to-markdown-converter/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"urls": ["https://docs.apify.com/platform/actors"], "maxItems": 10}'
```

```python
from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN")
run = client.actor("one_dollar_store/website-to-markdown-converter").call(
    run_input={"urls": ["https://docs.apify.com/platform/actors"], "maxItems": 10}
)
for item in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
    print(item["title"], item["wordCount"])
    print(item["markdown"][:300])
```

### Use it from an AI assistant

Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other assistants can call this actor through Apify's MCP server. Add it with this server address:

```
https://mcp.apify.com?tools=one_dollar_store/website-to-markdown-converter
```

Then ask, for example: "Convert this documentation page to Markdown and summarise the main points."

### Switching from another website to Markdown actor

Most of these actors take start URLs, a crawl depth and a page limit. Here they are `urls`, `maxDepth`, `maxPagesPerStartUrl` and `maxItems`. The core fields are `url`, `title` and `markdown`.

### Input

| Field | Type | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| `urls` | list of text | none | Page addresses to convert, one per line. |
| `maxDepth` | number | 0 | 0 converts only the pages you list. 1 also converts pages they link to on the same website, up to 5. |
| `maxPagesPerStartUrl` | number | 20 | When links are followed, the most pages per address you listed. |
| `stayInFolder` | true or false | true | When links are followed, stay inside the folder of the start address. Turn off to follow any page on the site. |
| `mainContentOnly` | true or false | true | Drop menus, footers, sidebars, cookie notices and forms. Turn off to convert the whole page. |
| `includeLinks` | true or false | true | Write links as Markdown links. When off, only the link text is kept. |
| `includeImages` | true or false | false | Write images as Markdown with their alt text. |
| `maxItems` | number | 100 | The run stops after this many pages in total. Minimum 10. |

A bare domain such as `example.com` is tried over https first, then http. Tracking parameters such as `utm_source` are removed from followed links, and a page reached twice is returned once.

Example crawl of one documentation section:

```json
{
  "urls": ["https://docs.apify.com/platform/actors"],
  "maxDepth": 1,
  "maxPagesPerStartUrl": 30,
  "maxItems": 30
}
```

### Output fields

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `url`, `finalUrl` | The address as fetched and the address after redirects. |
| `statusCode` | HTTP status (only 2xx pages give a row). |
| `depth`, `parentUrl` | How many links from a start address, and the page that linked to it. |
| `title`, `description` | Page title and meta description. |
| `language`, `canonicalUrl` | The `lang` attribute and the canonical link, when the page has them. |
| `author`, `publishedAt` | From page metadata, when present. |
| `markdown` | The page as Markdown. |
| `wordCount`, `charCount` | Size of the Markdown. |
| `contentSource` | Where the text came from: `main`, `article`, `density` (the block with the most paragraph text) or `body` (the whole page). |
| `headings` | The outline: a list of `level` and `text`, up to 60 entries. |
| `linkCount`, `imageCount` | Links and images written into the Markdown. |
| `pageTruncated` | `true` when the page was longer than 2 MB and was cut. |
| `crawledAt` | Time of the fetch in UTC. |

### Sample results

Real rows from a test run on 9 October 2026. For space, the `markdown` text and the `headings` list are cut short here; the real rows hold the whole page.

### Limits

- **No JavaScript is run.** The actor reads the HTML the server sends. A page that builds its text with scripts (many single page apps) can come back with little or no text. Such a page gives no row and is listed in the run summary.
- **Main content is a best guess.** With `mainContentOnly` on, the actor keeps the `main` or `article` part of the page, or else the block with the most paragraph text, and drops navigation, footers, sidebars, cookie notices and long lists of short links. Odd layouts can lose a section or keep some clutter. Turn the option off to get the whole page.
- **robots.txt is honoured** for every page. A page it does not allow gives no row. If robots.txt cannot be read because of a server error, the page is skipped too.
- **Sites that block cloud servers** or show a bot check page are skipped. The actor does not try to get past a check.
- **Only HTML pages with a 2xx status** give a row. PDFs and other files are skipped. Redirects are followed, up to 5. Pages are read up to 2 MB.
- **Crawling** follows links on the same website only, up to depth 5, and uses a short pause between requests on one site. Links in menus and footers are followed too, so set a page limit.
- Tables are written as simple Markdown tables. Merged cells, nested tables and complex layouts are flattened.
- **Free plan runs** return the first 10 results.
- Every run writes a `RUN_SUMMARY` record with counts and the list of skipped pages and why.

### FAQ

**How much does it cost to convert 10,000 pages?**
$10, plus $0.001 for each run.

**Do I pay for compute or proxy on top?**
No. Platform usage is included in the $1 per 1,000 price. The actor uses no proxy.

**Can I use the output for AI or RAG?**
Yes. Each row has clean Markdown, a title, a word count and a heading outline, which you can use to split a page into chunks.

**Why did a page give no row?**
The run summary lists every skipped page with the reason: blocked by robots.txt, an error status, a bot check page, a file that is not HTML, or a page with no text in its HTML.

**Does it read pages that need a login?**
No. It reads public pages only, as a visitor who is not logged in.

**Is it legal?**
The actor reads public pages that a site sends to any visitor, with no login, and respects robots.txt. How you use the text is up to you: follow each site's terms, copyright and the law where you live. Do not republish content you do not have rights to.

**Is this an official product of the sites it reads?**
No. It is an independent tool and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any site.

**Do I need an Apify account?**
Yes. Actors run from an Apify account, and a free account is enough to start: it includes $5 of platform usage every month. You can [sign up here](https://www.apify.com?fpr=ymnoit). This is a referral link and it costs you nothing.

**Is there a limit on the free plan?**
Yes. A run started from a free plan account delivers the first 10 results, then ends with a message and a link to the plans. Any paid plan returns everything you ask for, up to your own limit. The price per result is the same on every plan.

### Changelog

- October 2026: first release.

# Actor input Schema

## `urls` (type: `array`):

Pages to convert, one per line, for example https://example.com/blog/post. Pages that robots.txt does not allow are skipped. Local and private addresses are refused. The page is read as plain HTML, so pages that build their content with JavaScript can come back empty.

## `maxDepth` (type: `integer`):

0 converts only the pages you list. 1 also converts the pages they link to on the same website, 2 goes one level further, up to 5. Links in menus and footers are followed too, so also set a page limit.

## `maxPagesPerStartUrl` (type: `integer`):

When links are followed, the most pages to convert for each address you listed.

## `stayInFolder` (type: `boolean`):

When links are followed, only convert pages whose path is inside the start address's folder. https://example.com/docs and https://example.com/docs/ both keep to /docs/, and https://example.com/docs/intro.html keeps to /docs/. The folder is taken from the page the start address lands on after redirects. Turn off to follow any page on the same website.

## `mainContentOnly` (type: `boolean`):

Drops menus, footers, sidebars, cookie notices and forms, and keeps the main article or body text. Turn off to convert the whole page.

## `includeLinks` (type: `boolean`):

Write links as Markdown links. When off, only the link text is kept.

## `includeImages` (type: `boolean`):

Write images as Markdown image links with their alt text. Off by default, which keeps the text clean for AI use.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

The run stops after this many pages. Minimum 10.
