## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## CQC Care Homes & Providers Search (Ratings, Beds, Contacts)

Search the **Care Quality Commission register of every care service in England (about 57,000 locations)**: care homes,
nursing homes, home care agencies, supported living, GP surgeries, dentists, hospitals, clinics and more. You get one
flat table with each location's **latest CQC rating**, the **five key question ratings** (safe, effective, caring,
responsive, well-led), **care home beds**, phone, website, provider, brand, specialisms, registration date and map
coordinates.

The actor always reads the newest care directory files CQC publishes, so you never get a stale copy, and you don't
need a CQC API key.

### What it's for

- **Care-sector suppliers:** lead lists of care homes by area, size, specialism or rating, for example nursing homes
with 40+ beds in the North West that care for people with dementia. Commercial care home lists sell for around
  £2,500 a year.
- **Recruiters and staffing agencies:** every home care agency or care home near a postcode, with phone and website.
- **Investors and operators:** compare a group's homes by rating, find homes rated Requires improvement or Inadequate,
or spot new registrations in an area.
- **Families, advisers and placement teams:** care homes near a postcode, nearest first, with their latest ratings.
- **Researchers and journalists:** ratings by region, council, provider or type of service.

with `; ` so they fit in one spreadsheet cell.

### Pricing

**$0.003 per location returned, plus $0.005 per run.** 1,000 locations cost $3.005.

### Good to know

- **Not rated.** `overallRating` is empty (or "Not applicable") for services CQC hasn't rated, including new services
and dentists, which CQC doesn't rate. Under CQC's newer assessment approach, locations offering more than one kind
of service (often home care plus supported living, or a GP surgery plus out-of-hours) show "Not rated" as a whole; their ratings per service are in
`serviceRatings`, e.g. `Homecare: Good; Supported Living: Requires improvement`. The "Not rated" filter covers all
  of these.
- **Key question ratings** come from CQC's separate ratings file and are the latest rating for each question, which
may be from an older inspection than the overall rating.
- **Dual registrations.** Where two providers are both registered for the same care home, CQC lists it twice with
different location IDs; `dualRegistered` is `true` on both. Count only one when you're adding up beds.
- **Registered managers** are named people, so their names are left out unless you turn on
`includeRegisteredManager`. Personal data isn't covered by the Open Government Licence; you need your own lawful basis
under UK GDPR to use it. No email addresses are published by CQC.
- **Websites** are as CQC holds them, with `https://` added where CQC left it off.
- **Update frequency.** CQC publishes the care directory files monthly; `dataAsAt` shows which one you got. CQC says
its move to a new system is delaying some updates, such as cancelled registrations.
- **England only.** Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their own regulators.
- A run takes about a minute, mostly downloading and reading CQC's files, however few results you ask for.
