## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

### What does it do?

Instagram Scraper collects public Instagram data and returns clean rows. Give it profile links, @usernames, post or reel links, hashtags or keywords and it returns posts and reels with captions and engagement, stories, profile details, comment threads, follower and following lists, the accounts that liked a post, similar profiles, hashtag posts and search results. Your own Instagram account is never used, so it can't get blocked.

#### How much does it cost to scrape Instagram data?

| Job | Cost |
|---|---|
| 1,000 Instagram posts | $1.00 |
| 10,000 Instagram posts | $10 |
| 100,000 Instagram posts | $100 |

#### 📤 Main fields

| Field | Description |

| `item_id`, `url` | Native ID and a link back to the item |

| `author_id`, `author_name`, `author_username` | Creator or account |
| `play_count`, `like_count`, `comment_count`, `share_count`, `collect_count` | Engagement counts |
| `raw` | The full original record, every field the platform returned |
| `error_message` | Explanation on free `hint` / `error` rows |

### Troubleshooting

#### Stories or similar profiles come back empty?

Stories last 24 hours and some accounts have none; similar profiles are shown only for some accounts. You get a free `hint` row.

#### Getting no results?

Check that the link or username is public and typed correctly. Private accounts, deleted posts and hidden lists return a free `hint` row that says why. Keyword modes need the **Keywords** field, link modes need **Links**.

#### Getting fewer results than `maxItems`?

The platform ran out of items for that input (a small profile, a niche keyword), or the run reached its **Max cost per run** limit. The log says which one.

#### Some fields are empty?

Platforms don't return every field for every item. Everything the platform did return is kept in `raw`.

#### Video or image links stopped working?

Media URLs from these platforms expire after a few hours. Download files right after the run.

#### The run failed or shows an error row?

Retry once: the platforms sometimes refuse a request for a few minutes. If it keeps failing, open an issue with the run link and we'll fix it fast.
