## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Chrome Web Store Extension Details & Monitor

Get the public facts about any Chrome extension or theme as clean JSON: **users, rating, rating count, version, last update, developer, size, languages, permissions with risk flags, privacy disclosures and related extensions**. Turn on change tracking and schedule it to hear when a competitor ships a new version, gains users or **requests new permissions**.

Who it's for:

- **Extension developers**: watch your competitors' versions, users and ratings over time
- **Security and IT teams**: audit the extensions your company allows. See which ones can read all websites, cookies or tabs, and get alerted when permissions change.
- **Investors and market researchers**: size categories by user counts and compare ratings
- **Lead generation**: developer name, contact email (when the developer publishes one) and trader status

### Output (real result, trimmed)

```json
{
  "id": "kbfnbcaeplbcioakkpcpgfkobkghlhen", "name": "Grammarly: AI Writing Assistant and Grammar Checker App", "type": "extension",
  "users": 40000000, "rating": 3.868, "ratingCount": 43165, "version": "14.1343.0", "updatedAt": "2026-10-28T13:22:59.000Z",
  "category": "productivity/communication", "developerName": "Grammarly", "isTrader": true,
  "isFeatured": true, "goodPublisherRecord": true, "manifestVersion": 3,
  "permissions": ["scripting", "sidePanel", "tabs", "notifications", "cookies", "identity", "storage"], "hostPermissions": ["<all_urls>"],
  "permissionWarnings": ["Can read and change data on all websites", "Reads URLs and titles of all tabs", "Reads and changes cookies", "Accesses your Google identity"],
  "permissionRiskLevel": "high",
  "dataCollection": "discloses collecting data",
  "dataCollected": ["Personally identifiable information", "Personal communications", "Location", "User activity", "Website content"],
  "privacyDeclarations": ["Not being sold to third parties, outside of approved use cases", "..."],
  "supportUrl": "...", "privacyPolicyUrl": "...", "relatedItems": [{ "id": "kdfieneakcjfaiglcfcgkidlkmlijjnh", "name": "AI Grammar and Spell Checker by Ginger", "rating": 4.03 }]
}
```

With `trackChanges` on, every item also has `isNew`, `changedFields` and `changes`:

```json
"changes": { "version": { "from": "2026.1001.0", "to": "2026.1026.1812" }, "users": { "from": 21000000, "to": 22000000 } }
```

Permissions come from the extension's published manifest. `permissionRiskLevel` is a simple heuristic: **high** means access to all websites plus 2 or more sensitive APIs (cookies, tabs, history, debugger...), **medium** means one of the two, **low** means neither. It is a triage aid, not a malware verdict.

### Input

```json
{ "extensions": ["https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/ublock-origin-lite/ddkjiahejlhfcafbddmgiahcphecmpfh", "kbfnbcaeplbcioakkpcpgfkobkghlhen"],
  "trackChanges": true }
```

### What it does *not* do (by design)

This Actor reads only public listing pages (`/detail/<id>`), which the Chrome Web Store's robots.txt allows. It does **not** scrape reviews, search results or the "related" and "report" sub-pages, because robots.txt disallows them. The average rating and rating count come from the listing itself. Nothing requires a login.

Removed or unpublished extensions return `status: "not_found"` and invalid IDs return `status: "error"`. Neither is charged.

### Pricing

Pay per event: `item-scraped`, once per extension or theme returned with `status: "ok"`. Not-found and failed items are free.
