## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## QIF Converter: QIF to CSV/JSON and CSV/Excel to QIF

A **two-way QIF (Quicken Interchange Format) converter** for bookkeepers, Quicken and GnuCash users, and anyone migrating financial data.

- **QIF → CSV + JSON.** Reads exports from Quicken, Microsoft Money, GnuCash, Banktivity, MoneyWiz and banks. It keeps the **categories (L), split transactions (S/E/$), check numbers, cleared status, payee and memo**, and the account name from `!Account` blocks. Category and class lists are skipped automatically.
- **CSV / Excel → QIF.** Turns any bank CSV or XLSX export into a QIF that Quicken, GnuCash, Banktivity, MoneyMoney or HomeBank can import. It uses Rowbridge's column detection for date, payee, amount, debit/credit and check number.

The direction is chosen **per file**: `.qif` files are read, and spreadsheets are written to QIF. You can mix both in one run.

### Dates

QIF dates are notoriously inconsistent: `10/15'26`, `1/ 5/26`, `15/10/2026`, `2026-10-15`. With `dateOrder: "auto"` the Actor decides from the data itself, using days above 12 and chronological order. Set `MDY`, `DMY` or `YMD` to force an order. For QIF output, choose US (`MM/DD/YYYY`), UK/EU (`DD/MM/YYYY`) or ISO dates.

### Input

```json
{
  "files": [{ "url": "https://example.com/quicken-export.qif" }, { "url": "https://example.com/bank.csv" }],
  "dateOrder": "auto",
  "qifType": "Bank",
  "qifDateFormat": "MDY",
  "includeData": false
}
```

### Output

For each file you get a download link (`outputUrl`), plus `jsonUrl` for QIF input. The dataset row holds transaction count, date range, net amount and the per-account breakdown. A QIF file produces the CSV columns `date, amount, payee, memo, checkNumber, category, cleared, splitCount, account, accountType, rawDate`, and the JSON keeps the full split detail.

### Pricing

Pay per event: **$0.03 per converted file** (`file-converted`). Failed files are not charged.

# Actor input Schema

## `files` (type: `array`):

.qif files are converted to CSV + JSON. .csv/.tsv/.xlsx/.xls files are converted to QIF. Direction is detected per file.

## `text` (type: `string`):

Alternatively, paste QIF or CSV text.

## `dateOrder` (type: `string`):

How dates are written in the input. Auto works for most files; set DMY for UK/EU QIF files with ambiguous dates.

## `qifType` (type: `string`):

QIF account type (CSV → QIF).

## `qifDateFormat` (type: `string`):

QIF date format (CSV → QIF).

## `flipSigns` (type: `boolean`):

Flip signs (CSV → QIF).

## `includeData` (type: `boolean`):

Puts the parsed accounts/transactions (or QIF text) directly into the dataset item for API and AI-agent callers.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "dateOrder": "auto",
  "qifType": "Bank",
  "qifDateFormat": "MDY",
  "flipSigns": false,
  "includeData": false
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

One item per input file: source, status, summary, outputKey, outputUrl (converted .qif or .csv), jsonUrl (parsed QIF as JSON, for QIF input); error items have status=error.

## `files` (type: `string`):

Key-value store listing of converted <base>.qif or <base>.csv files plus <base>.json for QIF input; download via the store records/<key> endpoint.

# API

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("oqen/qif-csv-converter").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
    console.dir(item);
});
