## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Texas New Business Leads: New Franchise Taxpayers from Comptroller Open Data

**Use this to get new and active Texas franchise taxpayers from the Texas Comptroller's official open dataset (Active Franchise Taxpayers on data.texas.gov).** Each row has the **business name, address, city, ZIP, county code, organization type, taxpayer number, SOS / COA file number, charter date, franchise-tax responsibility date, SOS status, right-to-transact status and NAICS**. Filter by **city, ZIP prefix, county, org type and name**. **$0.0015 per business.**

**No scraping of Comptroller search pages: the data comes from the state's official Socrata open-data API.**

- 🆕 **New charters and newly responsible taxpayers** statewide (SOS charter date or franchise-tax responsibility beginning date)
- 🏷️ **Org type decoded** (Texas LLC, profit corporation, nonprofit, foreign LLC, LP, professional corp…)
- 🏙️ **City, ZIP prefix and county filters**, e.g. Houston (770), Austin (787), Dallas (752), Harris County (101)
- 🧹 **Active only by default** (right to transact A; SOS status A when present)
- 💸 **$0.0015 per business**; runs with no matches are free

### Who it's for

- **Business banks, payroll, insurance, accounting and bookkeeping firms:** reach new Texas owners in their first weeks
- **Web designers, marketing agencies, sign makers and printers:** brand-new companies need everything
- **Merchant services, POS, phone and internet providers:** new restaurants, salons, contractors and stores
- **B2B suppliers and distributors:** new LLCs and corporations in your Texas territory
- **Researchers and journalists:** Texas business-formation trends by city and org type

### How to use it

1. Click **Try for free**.
2. Set **Chartered / responsible in the last N days** (or a date range).
3. Optional: pick **cities**, **ZIP prefixes**, **county codes**, **org types** or a **name contains** string.
4. Click **Start**. Download **TXBIZ_XLSX** or **TXBIZ_CSV** from **Storage → Key-value store**.

#### Input example

```json
{
  "daysBack": 7,
  "cities": ["Houston", "Austin"],
  "orgTypes": ["CL", "CT"],
  "activeOnly": true
}
```

### Task examples

- **Daily Houston new-business feed:** `{"daysBack": 1, "cities": ["Houston"]}` on a daily schedule
- **New Texas LLCs statewide:** `{"daysBack": 7, "orgTypes": ["CL"]}`
- **Austin ZIP corridor:** `{"daysBack": 14, "zipPrefixes": ["787"]}`
- **Harris County (101) contractors by name:** `{"daysBack": 30, "countyCodes": ["101"], "nameContains": "roofing"}`
- **Only with an SOS file number:** `{"daysBack": 7, "requireSosNumber": true}`

### Output example

```json
{
  "taxpayerNumber": "32108423008",
  "name": "SEVEN BELOW REALTY, LLC",
  "address": "301 DETERING ST",
  "city": "Houston",
  "state": "TX",
  "zip": "77007",
  "countyCode": "101",
  "orgTypeCode": "CL",
  "orgType": "Texas Limited Liability Company",
  "sosFileNumber": "6000008314",
  "charterDate": "2027-01-01",
  "responsibilityDate": "2027-01-01",
  "sosStatusCode": "A",
  "sosStatus": "Active",
  "rightToTransactCode": "A",
  "rightToTransact": "Active (right to transact)",
  "naics": null,
  "sourceUrl": "https://data.texas.gov/d/9cir-efmm",
  "agentSummary": "SEVEN BELOW REALTY, LLC (Texas Limited Liability Company, taxpayer 32108423008): chartered 2027-01-01, responsible since 2027-01-01 — 301 DETERING ST, Houston, TX 77007; SOS 6000008314; SOS status Active; Active (right to transact)."
}
```

Names and dates above are real public records from the Comptroller dataset; future charter dates appear when the entity filed with a future effective date.

### For AI agents

Use this Actor to answer "which new businesses were added as Texas franchise taxpayers this week in city X or org type Y?". Minimal input: `{"daysBack": 3, "cities": ["Austin"]}`. Read `agentSummary` per business (name, type, taxpayer number, dates, address, SOS status, NAICS) or the SUMMARY `takeaway` (counts by org type, top cities, NAICS).

- **MCP:** add this Actor to Claude, Cursor, Copilot or any MCP client through the [Apify MCP server](https://mcp.apify.com): `https://mcp.apify.com/?actors=pandadad0214/texas-new-business-leads`, then ask in plain English.
- **API:** `POST https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/pandadad0214~texas-new-business-leads/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_TOKEN` with the input JSON.
- Every row has an **`agentSummary`** line, and the **SUMMARY** record has a one-line **`takeaway`** plus `nextSteps`, so an agent can answer without parsing every field.
- Schedule it (daily or weekly) in Apify and connect Zapier, Make, n8n, Slack, Google Sheets or a webhook to the dataset.

### Pricing

**$0.0015 per business returned** (pay per event) plus Apify's tiny Actor-start fee of $0.00005. A filtered weekly list of 200 costs $0.30; 1,000 businesses cost $1.50. Runs that return nothing cost nothing, and failed source calls are never charged. Set **Maximum results** or Apify's *maximum charge per run* to cap any run; the Actor stops at your limit.

**Apify paid-plan discounts:** Bronze members pay 10% less, Silver 20% less and Gold 30% less per business; the discount applies automatically. Apify's free plan includes monthly credit to try it.

### FAQ

**Where does the data come from?** The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts publishes the Active Franchise Taxpayers file on data.texas.gov (dataset `9cir-efmm`). The Actor reads it live through the Socrata SODA API.

**What is "charter date" vs "responsibility date"?** Charter date is when the Texas Secretary of State chartered the entity. Responsibility beginning date is when the taxpayer became liable for franchise tax. A row matches if either date falls in your window; future effective dates are kept.

**Why is the NAICS field sometimes empty?** Many taxpayers have no NAICS on file. When present it comes from the dataset column published as `_621111`.

**Are there emails or phone numbers?** No. The open dataset has names and addresses only. Use the Company Website Enricher once the business has a website.

**Is it legal to use for marketing?** These are public records published for reuse. Follow the usual marketing rules (CAN-SPAM, do-not-call) when contacting people.
