## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## App Store Top Charts & App Search Scraper (Rankings, Ratings)

**Track Apple App Store rankings in bulk.** Get the **top free, top paid and top grossing** charts for any country and category on **iPhone, iPad or Mac**, or **search apps by keyword** to see who ranks for it. Each app comes with full details:

- **Rank**, chart, category and country
- App name, ID, bundle ID, App Store link, icon and screenshots
- **Rating** and **rating count** (overall and for the current version)
- **Price**, currency, version, last update date, release date, size, minimum iOS version and languages
- Developer, seller, developer website, description and release notes

All data comes from **Apple's official public chart feeds and iTunes Search/Lookup API**. No login is needed, and it works in every App Store country.

### Who is it for?

- **App marketers and ASO specialists**: track keyword and category rankings every day.
- **Mobile game and app studios**: watch competitors climb the top grossing charts and see when they ship updates.
- **Investors and analysts**: spot fast-growing apps by country and category.
- **Agencies and lead generation**: build lists of top apps and their developer websites in any niche.
- **Researchers**: build historical ranking datasets with scheduled runs.

### How to use it

1. Choose **charts** (top free, top paid, top grossing), **categories** and **countries**.
2. Optionally add **search terms** to see which apps rank for a keyword.
3. Click **Start** and export to Excel, CSV or JSON. Schedule it daily to track rank changes.

### Input example

```json
{
  "charts": ["top-free", "top-grossing"],
  "categories": ["all", "games", "finance"],
  "countries": ["us", "gb"],
  "device": "iphone",
  "maxAppsPerChart": 100,
  "searchTerms": ["budget planner"]
}
```

### Output example

```json
  "source": "chart",
  "fileSizeMB": 373.6,
  "developerWebsite": "https://oakevergames.com/"
}
```

### How much does it cost?

Pay-per-event: a small fee **per app** returned, plus a tiny per-run start fee, with no subscription and no separate platform usage costs. For example, the top 100 apps in 10 categories (1,000 apps) cost about $0.50. Empty charts and unknown categories are **not charged**. Set **Maximum cost per run** to cap your spending.

### Good to know

- Apple publishes up to 100 to 200 apps per chart, and some small categories or countries have fewer.
- Charts update several times a day. Each row has a `scrapedAt` time, so you can compare runs.
- Need user reviews? Use the companion **App Store Reviews Scraper** listed below.

### Use it through the API, integrations or AI agents

Run it from the Apify API, on a schedule, or connect it to Make, Zapier, n8n or Google Sheets. AI agents can call it through the Apify MCP server.

### FAQ

**Is it legal?** It only uses Apple's official public chart feeds and search API, which Apple provides for anyone to use. No personal data is collected.

**Found a bug or need a feature?** Open an issue. We usually reply within 24 hours.
