## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## ClinicalTrials.gov Scraper: Clinical Trials Search & Export

**Search and export clinical trials from ClinicalTrials.gov in bulk.** Filter by **condition, drug or intervention, sponsor, location, phase, recruitment status, study type and dates**, and get one clean row per study:

- **NCT ID**, link, title, official title and acronym
- **Status** (recruiting, completed and more), **phase**, study type, why it stopped (if it did)
- **Conditions**, keywords, MeSH terms and **interventions** (drugs, devices, procedures)
- **Lead sponsor**, sponsor type (industry, NIH and others) and collaborators
- **Enrollment**, allocation, masking and primary purpose
- **Dates**: start, primary completion, completion, first posted and last updated
- **Eligibility**: sex, age range, healthy volunteers and full criteria
- Primary outcomes, brief summary, whether results are posted
- **Study sites**: facility, city, state, country, site status and the total site count

The data comes from the **official ClinicalTrials.gov API v2**, run by the U.S. National Library of Medicine, and covers 500,000+ studies worldwide. Contact names, phone numbers and emails are intentionally **not** collected.

### Who is it for?

- **Pharma and biotech competitive intelligence**: track every phase 2 and 3 trial a competitor runs in your indication.
- **CROs and site networks**: find recruiting studies near your sites and see which sponsors are active.
- **Investors and analysts**: monitor pipelines, completion dates and terminated trials.
- **Medical writers, researchers and AI builders**: build datasets for literature reviews and RAG.
- **Patient advocacy groups**: list recruiting trials for a condition by country.

### How to use it

1. Enter a **condition**, drug, sponsor or location, or paste **NCT IDs**.
2. Add filters such as **status**, **phase**, study type and "updated on or after".
3. Click **Start** and export to Excel, CSV or JSON. For daily monitoring, schedule it with **Updated on or after** set to yesterday's date.

  "locations": [{"facility": "Dignity Health, Mercy Gilbert", "city": "Gilbert", "state": "Arizona", "country": "United States", "status": "RECRUITING"}]
}
```
### How much does it cost?
Pay-per-event: a small fee **per study** returned, plus a tiny per-run start fee, with no subscription and no separate platform usage costs. For example, 1,000 studies cost about $2. Searches with no matches and invalid NCT IDs are **not charged**. Set **Max studies** or **Maximum cost per run** to cap your spending.
### Use it through the API, integrations or AI agents
Run it from the Apify API, on a schedule, or connect it to Make, Zapier, n8n, Google Sheets or Slack alerts. AI agents can call it through the Apify MCP server.
### FAQ
**Is it legal?** Yes. ClinicalTrials.gov is a public U.S. government database, and this tool uses its official public API. Personal contact details are not collected.
**How fresh is the data?** ClinicalTrials.gov updates daily, and every run fetches live data.
**Found a bug or need a feature?** Open an issue. We usually reply within 24 hours.
