## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Product Recalls Scraper: FDA, CPSC & NHTSA Vehicle Recalls

**All the main U.S. recall databases in one tool.** Get recalls from:

- **FDA**: food, drugs and medical devices (enforcement reports), with recall number, class (I, II or III), status, product, reason, quantity, distribution, lot codes and the recalling company
- **CPSC**: consumer products (toys, electronics, furniture, appliances and more), with title, product, hazard, injuries, remedy, refund options, retailers, country of manufacture, UPCs and images
- **NHTSA**: vehicle recalls for any **make, model and year**, with component, problem summary, consequence, remedy and "park it" warnings

Filter by **keyword**, **date range** and **FDA class**, or look up specific vehicles like `2022 Toyota Camry`. Everything comes from **official government APIs** (openFDA, CPSC and NHTSA).

### Who is it for?

- **Retailers, marketplaces and distributors**: check what you sell against new recalls every day.
- **Quality, compliance and legal teams**: monitor recalls in your category or for your suppliers.
- **Car dealers, fleets and insurers**: check vehicles for open recalls in bulk.
- **Journalists, researchers and consumer apps**: build recall alerts and datasets.

### How to use it

1. Pick the **sources** and optionally a **keyword** (like `peanut`, `stroller` or a company name).
2. Set **Recalls from the last N days** (30 by default) and FDA classes if needed.
3. Optionally add **vehicles** for NHTSA recalls. Then click **Start** and export to Excel, CSV or JSON.

### Input example

```json
{
  "sources": ["fda-food", "fda-drug", "fda-device", "cpsc"],
  "keyword": "",
  "recalledWithinDays": 30,
  "fdaClassifications": ["Class I"],
  "vehicles": ["2022 Toyota Camry"]
}
```

### Output example

```json
{
  "source": "FDA (drug)",
  "recallNumber": "D-0006-2027",
  "recallDate": "2026-09-11",
  "reportDate": "2026-10-14",
  "classification": "Class II",
  "status": "Ongoing",
  "product": "Sterile Lubricant Dry Eye Relief Eye Drops, 0.5 FL OZ...",
  "reason": "Lack of Assurance of Sterility",
  "company": "K.C. Pharmaceuticals, Inc.",
  "companyCity": "Pomona",
  "companyState": "CA",
  "quantity": "1,327,248 cartons",
  "distribution": "US Nationwide"
}
```

### How much does it cost?

Pay-per-event: a small fee **per recall** returned, plus a tiny per-run start fee, with no subscription and no separate platform usage costs. For example, 1,000 recalls cost about $1. Searches with no matches are **not charged**. Set **Max recalls per source** or **Maximum cost per run** to cap your spending.

### Good to know

- Only the recalling company's city, state and country are included; street addresses and consumer phone lines are left out.
- openFDA data is provided "as is" by the FDA; check the official notice before acting on a recall.

### Use it through the API, integrations or AI agents

Run it from the Apify API, on a schedule, or connect it to Make, Zapier, n8n, Google Sheets or Slack. AI agents can call it through the Apify MCP server.

### FAQ

**Is it legal?** Yes. These are public U.S. government databases with official public APIs.

**Found a bug or need a feature?** Open an issue. We usually reply within 24 hours.
