## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## RSS & Atom Feed Reader: News Aggregator & Monitor

**Read dozens or hundreds of RSS, Atom and JSON feeds in one run** and get one clean, merged list of articles, newest first. Paste feed links, or just **website URLs like `techcrunch.com`, and the feed is found automatically**.

Every item includes title, link, publish date, author, summary, full content (when the feed has it), categories, image, podcast or video media URL, and the source feed.

- **Auto-discovery**: finds the RSS/Atom feed from a normal website address.
- **All formats**: RSS 2.0, RSS 1.0 (RDF), Atom and JSON Feed.
- **Filters**: keywords to include or exclude, and "published in the last N days".
- **Merged and de-duplicated**: the same story from several feeds appears once.
- **Fast and cheap**: hundreds of feeds in seconds, pay per item returned.

### Who is it for?

- **News and brand monitoring**: track mentions of your company, competitors or topics across news sites and blogs.
- **Daily digests and newsletters**: schedule a daily run with **Published within 1 day** and send the results to email, Slack or Google Sheets.
- **AI agents and RAG**: feed fresh articles into LLM summarizers and knowledge bases.
- **Content curation and research**: collect everything published on a topic.
- **Podcasts**: podcast RSS feeds return episode audio links in `mediaUrl`.

### How to use it

1. Paste **feeds or websites**, one per line, e.g. `https://feeds.bbci.co.uk/news/rss.xml` or `blog.apify.com`.
2. Optional: add **keywords**, **exclude** words and **Published within the last N days**.
3. Click **Start** and export to Excel, CSV or JSON, or connect a schedule and integration.

### Input example

```json
{
  "feeds": ["https://feeds.bbci.co.uk/news/rss.xml", "techcrunch.com", "https://github.blog/feed/"],
  "keywords": ["AI", "open source"],
  "publishedWithinDays": 1,
  "contentFormat": "text"
}
```

### Output example

```json
{
  "title": "K-pop star Sunmi loves Notion and ear cleaning videos",
  "link": "https://www.theverge.com/entertainment/1008654/k-pop-sunmi-wonder-girl",
  "published": "2026-10-10T15:00:00Z",
  "author": "Terrence O’Brien",
  "summary": "Sunmi is an undeniable force in K-pop...",
  "categories": ["Entertainment", "Interview", "Music", "Report"],
  "image": null,
  "feedTitle": "The Verge",
  "feedUrl": "https://www.theverge.com/rss/index.xml",
  "content": "Sunmi is an undeniable force in K-pop..."
}
```

A `FEEDS_SUMMARY` record shows, per input, which feed was found and how many items it returned.

### How much does it cost?

Pay-per-event: a small fee **per item returned** plus a tiny per-run start fee, with no subscription and no separate platform usage costs. For example, 1,000 items cost about $0.50. Items removed by your filters or as duplicates, and websites with no feed, are **not charged**. Set **Maximum cost per run** to cap your spending.

### Good to know

- Feeds usually contain only the latest 10–50 items. Schedule regular runs to build a full history.
- Full content depends on the publisher. Many feeds only include a summary.

### Use it through the API, integrations or AI agents

Run it from the Apify API, on a schedule, or connect it to Make, Zapier, n8n, Slack or Google Sheets. AI agents can call it through the Apify MCP server.

### FAQ

**Is it legal?** RSS and Atom feeds are published by websites specifically so that apps can read them. Respect each publisher's terms when you republish content.

**Found a feed it can't read?** Open an issue with the URL. We usually reply within 24 hours.
