## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Tech Stack Detector (Cheap Wappalyzer & BuiltWith Alternative)

Find out **what any website is built with**, in bulk: CMS, ecommerce platform, JavaScript framework, analytics, ad pixels, live chat, payments, cookie consent, CDN, hosting and web server. **135+ technologies** detected from the public homepage and HTTP headers.

- **Bulk**: paste hundreds of domains and get one clean row per site.
- **Cheap**: pay a small fee per website analyzed, a fraction of what other tech-lookup tools charge.
- **Evidence and confidence**: every detection says how it was found (header, meta tag, cookie, script, HTML) and gives a version when the site exposes it.
- **Fair**: sites that block automated requests or don't load come back as **free** rows that explain why.

### Who is it for?

- **Sales and lead gen**: find every store on Shopify, every site using HubSpot, or prospects that use a competitor's tool.
- **Agencies**: audit a client's or prospect's stack before a pitch.
- **Market research**: measure the adoption of a technology across a list of sites (see the `TECH_SUMMARY` record).
- **AI agents**: one call returns a site's stack as JSON.

### What it detects (examples)

| Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| CMS & builders | WordPress, Drupal, Webflow, Wix, Squarespace, Framer, Ghost, HubSpot CMS |
| Ecommerce | Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, BigCommerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud |
| Frameworks | React, Next.js, Vue, Nuxt, Angular, Svelte, Gatsby, Astro |
| Analytics & tags | Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Segment, Hotjar, Mixpanel, PostHog |
| Advertising | Meta Pixel, Google Ads, LinkedIn Insight, TikTok Pixel |
| Marketing & chat | HubSpot, Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Intercom, Drift, Zendesk |
| Payments | Stripe, PayPal, Klarna, Afterpay |
| Infrastructure | Cloudflare, CloudFront, Fastly, Vercel, Netlify, Nginx, Apache |

### How to use it

1. Paste your **websites** (domains or URLs), one per line. Hundreds at a time is fine.
2. Click **Start**.
3. Filter the table by technology (e.g. every site on Shopify, every site using HubSpot) and export to Excel or CSV. The `TECH_SUMMARY` record shows how many of your sites use each technology.

### Input example

```json
{ "domains": ["apify.com", "wordpress.org", "vercel.com"] }
```

### Output example

```json
{
  "domain": "apify.com",
  "finalUrl": "https://apify.com/",
  "statusCode": 200,
  "title": "Apify: Full-stack web scraping and data extraction platform",
  "technologyCount": 5,
  "technologyNames": ["Amazon CloudFront", "Next.js", "Intercom", "HubSpot", "Google Tag Manager"],
  "technologies": [
    { "name": "Next.js", "category": "JavaScript framework", "version": null, "confidence": "high", "evidence": ["html", "header:x-powered-by"] }
  ],
  "byCategory": { "JavaScript framework": ["Next.js"], "Live chat": ["Intercom"] },
  "server": "AmazonS3",
  "poweredBy": "Next.js"
}
```

### How much does it cost?

Pay-per-event: a small fee **per website analyzed** plus a tiny per-run start fee. For example, 1,000 websites cost about $3, far less than tech-lookup subscriptions. Blocked or failed websites are free. Set **Maximum cost per run** to cap spending.

### Limits

- It reads the homepage and its headers. Technologies only loaded on other pages, or injected later by JavaScript, may be missed.
- Some sites with strict bot protection (403/429) only show what their headers reveal. Those rows are free.

### Use it through the API, integrations or AI agents

Run it from the Apify API, on a schedule, or connect it to Make, Zapier, n8n or Google Sheets. AI agents can find and call it through the Apify MCP server. Output is clean JSON with the same fields on every run.

### FAQ

**Is it legal?** It only reads each website's public homepage and HTTP headers, the same things any browser receives. No personal data is collected.

**Can you add a technology?** Yes. Open an issue with the name and an example site. We usually reply within 24 hours.
