## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## SEC 13F Holdings Scraper: Hedge Fund Positions

This SEC 13F scraper reads the quarterly reports in which hedge funds, asset managers, banks and other large institutions list every US stock they hold. Pick a fund and get its positions with the change against the last quarter. Or pick a company and get the funds that own it. Or leave the fund empty and get a ranking of the largest managers.

A position row carries more than the name and the value. You get the ticker, shares, value, the implied price, the weight in the portfolio and the rank, the voting authority, and the change against the previous quarter: new, added, reduced, unchanged or exited, the change in shares in percent and an estimate of the trade value that removes price moves. Fund summaries add the total value, the concentration of the top 10 holdings, the share of options, how many positions were bought, sold or exited, the turnover, and the three biggest buys and sells of the quarter.

Investors, analysts, journalists, newsletter writers and quant researchers use it to follow what the big money buys and sells.

### What can you do with this 13F scraper?

- See every position of Berkshire Hathaway, Bridgewater, Citadel or any other fund for a quarter
- Find what a fund bought, added, reduced or sold completely since the last quarter
- Get the three biggest buys and sells of a fund with the estimated trade value
- Find which funds own a stock, how big the position is in their portfolio and how much of the reported shares they hold
- See which holders added to a stock and which reduced it
- Look at option positions (puts and calls) of the largest firms
- Rank the largest 13F filers by total value, by state if you wish
- Check the concentration of a fund in its top 10 positions
- Follow a fund over quarters, back to 2013
- Export 13F data to CSV or Excel, or send it to Google Sheets, Slack or your own tools

### What data can you extract from 13F filings?

| Mode | One row is | Highlights |
|---|---|---|
| Fund holdings | One position of one fund | Fund, quarter, issuer, class, CUSIP, ticker, shares or option type, value, implied price, rank, portfolio weight, discretion, voting authority, other managers, and with the comparison on: change status, previous shares, change in shares and percent, previous value, value change, trade value estimate, previous weight |
| Fund summary | One fund | Total value, number of positions, reported entries, options value and share, top 10 concentration, largest position, top holdings with weights, previous quarter value and change, counts of new, added, reduced, unchanged and exited positions, value of new and exited positions, turnover, biggest buys and sells |
| Largest funds ranking | One manager | Rank, fund name, total value, position count, average position size, share of all reported value, city, state, filing date |
| Who owns a stock | One holder of one security | Holder, state, ticker, CUSIP, class, value, shares, percent of the fund portfolio, share of all reported shares, holder rank, number of holders, voting authority, and the change in shares against the previous quarter |

### How to scrape SEC 13F filings

1. Choose **Fund holdings**, **Fund summary or ranking**, or **Who owns a stock**.
2. Enter fund names or CIK numbers. For the holders mode enter tickers, CUSIP numbers or issuer names instead.
3. Optionally set the quarter, for example 2026Q2. The default is the latest report.
4. Keep the comparison on to see what changed.
5. Set **Max Items** and click **Start**.
6. Export the dataset as CSV, Excel or from the Apify console.

### How much does it cost to scrape 13F filings?

You pay per result: $32 per 1,000 rows plus a tiny start fee. The free plan returns up to 10 rows per run. A fund summary is one row per fund, so following 50 funds costs a few cents per quarter.

### Tips for better results

- A 13F report is filed up to 45 days after the quarter ends, so positions are always a few weeks old. They show what a fund held on the last day of the quarter.
- Funds report long positions in US listed securities. Short positions, cash and most non-US holdings are not part of the report.
- The trade value estimate multiplies the change in shares by the current price. It removes price moves, but it is still an estimate: the fund may have traded in between.
- Large managers often file for several affiliated entities. BlackRock, Vanguard and State Street each appear under more than one name.
- The holders mode uses the quarterly data sets that the SEC publishes after the filing deadline. For the newest reports of a given fund use the fund holdings mode.
- Matching a ticker to the reports goes through the company name. When a company has several share classes, check the CUSIP and class of each row, or search by CUSIP.
- Reports before 2023 list values in thousands. The Actor converts them to dollars.
- Securities of some foreign companies come without a ticker.

### Who uses 13F data?

- **Investors** follow the positions of funds they respect.
- **Analysts** study ownership and crowding in a stock.
- **Journalists** report on what big funds buy and sell.
- **Newsletter writers** publish quarterly 13F roundups.
- **Quant researchers** build signals from institutional flows.

### Automate and connect

Schedule the Actor after each filing deadline (mid February, May, August and November) and send the results to Google Sheets, Slack, Zapier, Make or n8n, or trigger a webhook when a run ends.

### FAQ

**Do I need an SEC account?**
No. The Actor works without any login.

**What is a 13F?**
A quarterly report that US institutional managers with more than 100 million dollars under management file with the SEC. It lists their holdings of US listed securities.

**Does it show what a fund bought this week?**
No. The report shows positions at the end of the quarter. Changes between two quarters show what was bought or sold in the quarter.

**Why do the position counts differ from the filing?**
The same security can appear on several lines in a report, for example for different sub-managers. The Actor adds them up per security and option type.

**Why is a ticker missing?**
Some securities have no listing that can be matched, for example certain foreign shares or private placements.

**Can I find who owns a stock right now?**
You can find who reported owning it at the end of the latest published quarter.

**Is this financial advice?**
No. 13F filings are public information. Use them as one input among many.

# Actor input Schema

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Free users: Limited to 10 items (preview). Paid users: Optional, max 1,000,000.

## `mode` (type: `string`):

Fund holdings returns one row per position of a fund, with the change against the previous quarter. Fund summary returns one row per fund with total value, concentration, top holdings, new and exited positions, or with no fund given a ranking of the largest funds. Who owns a stock returns one row per fund that holds a company.

## `fundNames` (type: `array`):

Names of the investment managers, for example Berkshire Hathaway, Bridgewater or Citadel. The closest matches that file 13F reports are used. Used in the holdings and summary modes.

## `ciks` (type: `array`):

SEC numbers of the investment managers, for example 1067983. Use them when you know the exact fund.

## `quarter` (type: `string`):

Quarter of the report, for example 2026Q2 or 2026-06-30. Leave empty for the latest report of each fund, or the latest quarter published by the SEC in the holders mode and the ranking.

## `tickers` (type: `array`):

Tickers of the companies whose holders you want, for example AAPL or NVDA. The SEC company name is matched against the issuer names in the reports. For exact results use CUSIP numbers.

## `cusips` (type: `array`):

Nine character security IDs, for example 037833100 for Apple. This is the most exact way to find the holders of one security or share class.

## `issuerNames` (type: `array`):

Company names as funds report them, for example APPLE INC or NVIDIA CORP. Matching ignores endings such as Inc and Corp.

## `compareToPreviousQuarter` (type: `boolean`):

Adds new, added, reduced, unchanged and exited status, the change in shares and an estimate of the trade value. Turn off for faster runs.

## `changeStatuses` (type: `array`):

Keep only positions with these changes against the previous quarter: new, added, reduced, unchanged or exited. Leave empty for all.

## `includeExited` (type: `boolean`):

In the holdings mode, also return the positions that the fund held in the previous quarter and no longer holds.

## `positionType` (type: `string`):

Shares and bonds only, options only (puts and calls), or all positions.

## `minValueUsd` (type: `integer`):

Keep only positions worth at least this much. In the ranking mode it applies to the total value of the fund.

## `fundStates` (type: `array`):

Two letter state codes. In the largest funds ranking, keep only managers located in these states, for example NY, MA, CA.

## `resolveTickers` (type: `boolean`):

Adds the ticker symbol of each security. Securities of some foreign companies may stay without a ticker.

## `contactEmail` (type: `string`):

Added to the request header as SEC fair access guidelines recommend. Leave empty if you prefer.
