## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Bulk Domain Availability & WHOIS (RDAP) Checker

**Check thousands of domain names for availability and get their registration data in one run.** For each domain you get whether it's **available or registered**, and for registered domains the **registrar, creation date, expiry date, domain age, days until expiry, EPP status codes, nameservers and DNSSEC** — straight from the official registry **RDAP** service (the modern, structured replacement for WHOIS).

Need name ideas? Enter **keywords + TLDs** (and optional prefixes/suffixes like `get`, `try`, `hq`) and the Actor generates and checks every combination.

**$1 per 1,000 domains**, no subscription, failed lookups are free.

### Use cases

- 🚀 **Naming a startup or product** — check `brand × .com/.io/.ai/.co/.app/.dev` in seconds
- 📅 **Domain portfolio monitoring** — schedule a weekly run and catch upcoming expirations
- 🕵️ **Expiring / drop-catching research** — find domains in `pending delete` / `redemption` status
- 🧾 **Lead qualification & due diligence** — domain age, registrar and nameservers for a list of companies
- 🧹 **Spot unused domains** — optional website (A record) and email (MX) checks for registered domains

### How it works

1. The Actor reads IANA's official RDAP bootstrap file to find each TLD's registry RDAP server (Verisign for .com/.net, PIR for .org, Google for .app/.dev, Identity Digital for .ai, Nominet for .uk, and hundreds more).
2. A `404 Not Found` from the registry means the domain is **available**; otherwise registration data is parsed into clean fields.
3. For TLDs without public RDAP (some ccTLDs such as .io, .co, .de, .me) it falls back to a DNS delegation check and marks the result `probably-available` / `registered` with `method: "dns"`.

### Input example

```json
{
    "domains": ["google.com", "my-new-startup-idea-2026.com"],
    "keywords": ["parthtools", "rocketdata"],
    "tlds": ["com", "io", "ai", "co"],
    "prefixes": ["get"],
    "onlyAvailable": false,
    "includeDns": true
}
```

### Output example

```json
{
    "domain": "google.com",
    "status": "registered",
    "available": false,
    "method": "rdap",
    "registrar": "MarkMonitor Inc.",
    "registrarIanaId": "292",
    "createdAt": "1997-09-15T04:00:00Z",
    "expiresAt": "2028-09-14T04:00:00Z",
    "updatedAt": "2019-09-09T15:39:04Z",
    "ageDays": 10630,
    "daysUntilExpiry": 691,
    "eppStatus": ["client delete prohibited", "client transfer prohibited", "server update prohibited"],
    "nameservers": ["ns1.google.com", "ns2.google.com", "ns3.google.com", "ns4.google.com"],
    "dnssec": false,
    "hasWebsite": true,
    "hasEmail": true
}
```

Statuses: `available`, `probably-available` (DNS fallback), `registered`, `expiring` (pending delete / redemption), `unknown`.

### Pricing

| Event | Price | When |
|---|---|---|
| Domain checked | **$0.001** ($1 / 1,000 domains) | Each domain result |
| Actor start | $0.00005 | Once per run |

### FAQ

**Is "available" guaranteed?** RDAP comes from the registry itself, so it's very reliable, but premium or reserved names may still not be purchasable at the standard price — confirm at your registrar before buying.

**Why don't I see the owner's name or email?** Registrant contact details are redacted by registries for privacy (GDPR), and this Actor intentionally does not collect personal data. You get registrar, dates, status and nameservers.

**Does it use WHOIS port 43?** No — it uses RDAP over HTTPS, the official successor to WHOIS required by ICANN for gTLDs.

**Rate limits?** Requests are spaced per registry with automatic retries. Large lists (10,000+) work fine; just allow more time.

# Actor input Schema

## `domains` (type: `array`):

Full domain names, one per line (e.g. <code>mybrand.com</code>). URLs are accepted and cleaned.

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Optional: brand names / keywords. Each is combined with every TLD (and optional prefixes/suffixes) below.

## `tlds` (type: `array`):

Extensions combined with each keyword, e.g. <code>com</code>, <code>io</code>, <code>ai</code>.

## `prefixes` (type: `array`):

Optional prefixes, e.g. <code>get</code>, <code>try</code>, <code>use</code>.

## `suffixes` (type: `array`):

Optional suffixes, e.g. <code>hq</code>, <code>app</code>, <code>labs</code>.

## `onlyAvailable` (type: `boolean`):

Hide registered domains from the results (they are still checked and billed).

## `includeDns` (type: `boolean`):

For registered domains, look up A and MX records to show whether the domain has a website and email (useful to spot parked/unused domains).

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

Parallel lookups. Registries rate-limit, so very high values don't help.
