## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## RSS & Atom Feed Reader with New-Items Monitor

**Turn any RSS, Atom, RDF or JSON Feed into clean, structured JSON — and get only what's new on every scheduled run.** Paste feed URLs, or just a website/blog/news URL: the Actor **auto-discovers the feed**, parses it, normalizes dates to ISO 8601, and outputs one row per item with title, link, date, author, categories, summary, image, and podcast enclosure.

**$0.30 per 1,000 items.** No start fee. Feeds that fail are free.

### Why use it?

- 📰 **News & content monitoring** — track competitors' blogs, industry news, press releases, changelogs, job feeds
- 🔔 **Alerts** — schedule it every 15 minutes with *Only new items*, then connect Slack, email, Make, Zapier or n8n
- 🤖 **AI pipelines** — feed fresh articles into summarizers, newsletters or RAG indexes
- 🎙️ **Podcasts** — episode titles, dates, durations and audio enclosure URLs

### Features

- Supports **RSS 2.0, RSS 1.0 (RDF), Atom and JSON Feed**
- **Feed auto-discovery** from any web page (`<link rel="alternate">`, then `/feed`, `/rss.xml`, `/atom.xml`, `/index.xml`…)
- **New-items-only mode** remembers what was already returned per feed (named state store, so multiple monitors don't collide)
- Filters: **keywords**, **exclude keywords**, **published within N days**, **max items per feed**
- Optional full **content HTML** (`content:encoded` / Atom content)
- Podcast fields: enclosure URL/type/size, iTunes duration and image

### Input example

```json
{
    "feeds": [
        "https://hnrss.org/frontpage",
        "https://blog.apify.com",
        "https://www.theverge.com/rss/index.xml"
    ],
    "maxItemsPerFeed": 20,
    "publishedWithinDays": 7,
    "keywords": ["AI", "scraping"],
    "newItemsOnly": true
}
```

### Output example

    "feedTitle": "Apify Blog",

```
### Pricing
| Event | Price | When |
|---|---|---|
| Feed item | **$0.0003** ($0.30 / 1,000 items) | Each item saved after filters |
| Actor start | $0.00005 | Once per run |
Filtered-out items, already-seen items (new-items mode) and failed feeds cost nothing. Example: monitoring 50 feeds every hour with ~2 new items per feed per day ≈ 3,000 items/month ≈ **$0.90/month** plus tiny start fees.
### FAQ
**How do I get alerts?** Enable *Only new items*, create a Schedule (e.g. every 30 minutes) and add an integration (Slack, email, webhook) on the Actor run.
**Can I monitor several groups of feeds separately?** Yes — use a different *State store name* for each task.
**Can it read feeds behind a login?** No, only publicly accessible feeds.
**What if a site has no feed?** You'll get a free error row. Try the Website to Markdown Crawler or a sitemap tool instead.
# Actor input Schema
## `feeds` (type: `array`):
RSS, Atom, RDF or JSON Feed URLs — or just a website/blog URL and the feed is auto-discovered (from \<link rel=alternate> or common paths like /feed, /rss.xml).
## `maxItemsPerFeed` (type: `integer`):
Newest items first. 0 = all items in the feed.
## `publishedWithinDays` (type: `integer`):
0 = no date filter.
## `keywords` (type: `array`):
Keep only items whose title, summary or categories contain any of these (case-insensitive).
## `excludeKeywords` (type: `array`):
Drop items containing any of these.
## `newItemsOnly` (type: `boolean`):
Remember items already returned (per feed) and output only new ones on later runs. Perfect for scheduled monitoring, Slack/email alerts and news pipelines.
## `stateStoreName` (type: `string`):
Named key-value store that remembers seen items. Use a different name per monitor.
## `includeContent` (type: `boolean`):
Add the item's full HTML content (content:encoded / Atom content) when the feed provides it.
## `discoverAllFeeds` (type: `boolean`):
When a website advertises several feeds (e.g. posts + comments), read all of them instead of only the first.
## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):
Feeds fetched in parallel.
