## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

Ask a question in plain English and get an answer where **each sentence cites the page it came from**. The answer also lists what the sources couldn't confirm and gives a confidence grade, so you can judge how far to trust it. Run one question or a batch of 50. **You pay only for questions that get an answer.**

### What you get for each question

| Field | What it holds |
|---|---|
| `answer` | The answer. Each sentence ends with the URL of its source in brackets |
| `sources` | The pages the answer relies on, with their titles |
| `gaps` | What the sources couldn't confirm, and how many claims the checker dropped |
| `confidence` | `high`, `medium` or `low`, based on how many claims held up against their sources |
| `answered` | `false` when no source backed an answer. You aren't charged for these |
| `searches` | The web searches it ran |

#### How it checks its own answer

The research engine searches the web, reads the pages and drafts an answer. A separate step then compares each claim with the text of the page it cites, drops the claims that page doesn't support, and counts them in `gaps`. You can check any remaining sentence in one click. Sources can disagree with each other, so for anything important, open the cited page.

### How to use it

1. Type your questions into **Questions**, one per line.
2. Add **Context** if it applies to all of them, such as who the answer is for.
3. Click **Start**. The **Answers** tab in Output shows one row per question. **Sources and gaps** shows what each answer rests on.

A question takes about a minute, and two run at a time. After a quiet period, the first question can take up to a minute longer while a GPU starts. You can also call it through the [Apify API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2), run it on a schedule, or connect it to Make, Zapier and n8n.

### What to ask it

Questions about **markets, products, prices, companies, regulations, places, events and published research**. For example:

- What do the top three payroll providers charge a 20-person company?
- Which EU countries require e-invoicing for B2B sales in 2026?
- What did recent studies find about four-day work weeks and productivity?

It **won't look up private people**: no addresses, phone numbers, relatives or profiles of individuals. It declines those questions and doesn't charge for them.

### How much does it cost?

**$0.15 per answered question.** Declined questions and questions without a sourced answer cost nothing.

| Questions answered | Cost |
|---|---|
| 1 | $0.15 |
| 50 (one full batch) | $7.50 |
| 1,000 | $150.00 |

### Example

Input, using the question prefilled in the form:

```json
{ "questions": ["What does Stripe charge for online card payments in the US, and how does that compare to Square and PayPal?"] }
```

Real output from that run, which took about a minute (3 of its 8 sources shown):

### FAQ

#### Which model does it use?

Qwen3.6, an open-weight model, on GPUs Patchwell rents, plus the separate checking step described above. Your question stays off outside AI companies' servers. The short search queries the model writes do go to web search engines.

#### Is my question stored?

By default, Patchwell keeps the question text and basic quality signals for 30 days, with contact details removed, and uses them to improve accuracy. Turn off **Let Patchwell keep questions** in the input and Patchwell keeps nothing. Results stay in your own Apify storage.

#### Why was my question declined?

It asked about a private person, or tried to get the tool to ignore its rules. Ask about the topic instead of the person. You don't pay for declined questions.

#### Can it read a specific page or PDF I give it?

Not yet. It finds its own sources on the open web.
