## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## SEO Audit Tool - On-Page SEO Checker for URL Lists

SEO Audit Tool audits a list of pages and returns one row per URL with 14 on-page SEO checks, each marked pass, warn or fail, plus an overall score (0-100) and grade (A-F). You are charged only for URLs that were fetched and audited; timeouts, DNS errors, blocked targets and non-HTML pages are free. The first 2 URLs of every run are free. Built with AI assistance (Claude); maintained by the publisher.

### Quickstart (one API call)

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/pennydata~seo-audit-tool/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=$APIFY_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"urls":[{"url":"https://apify.com"},{"url":"https://example.com"}]}'
```

Or open the Actor in the Console and click **Start**: the prefilled input runs as-is.

### Checks

| Check | Pass | Warn | Fail |
|---|---|---|---|
| `title` | 30-60 characters | present, other length | missing |
| `metaDescription` | 70-160 characters | present, other length | missing |
| `h1` | exactly one | more than one | none |
| `canonical` | link rel=canonical present | - | missing (warn) |
| `imageAlt` | 90%+ images have alt text | 60-89% | under 60% |
| `robotsMeta` | indexable | nofollow | noindex |
| `https` | final URL is HTTPS | - | not HTTPS |
| `statusCode` | 2xx | 3xx | 4xx, 5xx |
| `redirectChain` | no redirect | one redirect | two or more |
| `robotsTxt` | /robots.txt found | missing | - |
| `sitemap` | sitemap listed in robots.txt or /sitemap.xml found | not found | - |
| `wordCount` | 300+ words | 100-299 | under 100 |
| `openGraph` | og:title, og:description, og:image | some | none |
| `loadTime` | up to 1.5 s | up to 3 s | over 3 s |

Each check is an object `{ "status": "pass|warn|fail", "value": ..., "note": "..." }`. Score = (pass x 1 + warn x 0.5) / 14. The `details` object holds the raw title, meta description, H1 texts, canonical, image counts, Open Graph tags, language, viewport, JSON-LD block count and word count.

### Pricing

Pay per event, no subscription: **$0.005 per URL audited ($5 per 1,000)**. The first 2 URLs of each run are free. Not charged: timeouts, DNS or connection errors, redirect loops, non-HTML responses, empty input and private/blocked targets. Set a maximum cost per run to cap spend; the Actor stops when the limit is reached.

| Event | When it is charged | Price |
|---|---|---|
| `url-audited` | One URL fetched (any HTTP status) and audited. | $0.005 |

### Example input

```json
{ "urls": [{ "url": "https://apify.com" }, { "url": "https://example.com" }], "maxRedirects": 10, "maxConcurrency": 10, "timeoutSecs": 20 }
```

### Example output

See the dataset views **SEO audit overview** and **All checks**. A shortened row for `https://example.com`:

```json
{
  "input": "https://example.com", "finalUrl": "https://example.com/", "score": 57, "grade": "D",
  "passed": 6, "warnings": 4, "failed": 4,
  "title": { "status": "fail", "value": 14, "note": "Aim for 30-60 characters" },
  "metaDescription": { "status": "fail", "value": 0, "note": "Missing meta description" },
  "sitemap": { "status": "warn", "value": false, "note": "No sitemap.xml found or declared" }
}
```

Rows for URLs that could not be audited contain `input`, `error` and `checkedAt` only.

### FAQ

**Does it render JavaScript?** No. It audits the HTML the server returns, as a crawler first sees it. Pages that build their content in the browser can show a low word count or missing tags.

**Is it a full-site crawler?** No. It audits exactly the URLs you give it, one request for the page plus robots.txt and sitemap.xml once per URL.

**Is the score Google's?** No. It is a transparent checklist score from the table above, useful for comparing pages and tracking fixes.

**Which sites can I check?** Public http(s) pages only. Localhost, private addresses and non-http schemes are rejected, and every redirect hop is re-checked. No proxies, no captcha solving. Sites behind bot walls may answer 403 or 429 and are reported as such. The Actor identifies itself as `SeoAuditToolBot`. You are responsible for having the right to check the URLs you submit.
