## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## App Store & Google Play Reviews Scraper by Keyword

Type a category, like budget tracker or meditation, and pull the newest reviews for the top apps on the App Store and Google Play. Each review gets tagged by type and each app gets a short report of what users complain about and ask for.

### Quick start

Press **Start**. The sample searches *budget tracker*, takes the top 3 apps from each store and grabs 20 recent reviews per app. Want more? Add search terms, raise *Apps per search term* to 10, and set reviews per app to 200.

### What you get

- Every review: rating, title, text, author, date, app version, helpful votes, and whether the developer replied (Google Play)
- Tags on each review: sentiment, type (bug, feature request, pricing, performance, praise), theme, severity
- One report per app: average rating, rating spread, top complaints with counts and real quotes, feature requests, praise, suggested fixes
- App details: name, developer, store link, store rating and rating count, current version
- Optional complaint rows with issue category and requested fix (no extra charge)

### Good for

- Checking what users hate about every competitor in your category, in one run
- Roadmap input from real feature requests
- Watching how a release moved ratings
- Pulling user quotes for a pitch deck or landing page

### Pricing

- $0.0005 per review read and tagged
- $0.03 per app report
- 6 apps with 20 reviews each comes to about $0.24

You pay only for results that come back. Set a max cost per run in the run options and the run stops cleanly
when it hits it. Normal Apify platform usage applies.

### Input

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| `searchTerms` | Type a category or keyword, like budget tracker or meditation. We pull the top apps for each one and grab their newest reviews. No links needed. |
| `appsPerSearch` | How many top apps to take from each store for each term. |
| `searchStores` | Where to look for apps that match your search terms. |
| `apps` | Add apps you already know: a name (Notion), an App Store or Google Play link, or a Play package name (notion.id). Works alongside search terms. |
| `maxReviewsPerApp` | Newest reviews to pull per app. Apple's public feed stops at about 500 per country. |
| `onlyLastDays` | Skip older reviews. 0 keeps everything. |
| `country` | Two-letter store country code. |
| `language` | Two-letter review language for Google Play. |
| `storeForNames` | Which store to check when you type an app name instead of a link. |
| `includeReviewRows` | Turn off to keep only the per-app summary rows. Reviews are still read and billed. |
| `emitComplaintRecords` | Adds one row per review with its type (complaint, question, praise, promo, off topic), the complaint excerpt, issue category, any requested fix and a duplicate group. No extra charge. Counts mean reviews collected, not how common a problem is. |

### Limits

- Apple's public feed stops at roughly 500 reviews per app per country.
- Search uses each store's own ranking for your term, so the top results can include loosely related apps.
- Report counts mean reviews collected in this run, not how common a problem is overall.

### Run it from code

Same input as the Console sample:

```json
{
  "searchTerms": [
    "budget tracker"
  ],
  "appsPerSearch": 3,
  "apps": [],
  "maxReviewsPerApp": 20,
  "country": "us"
}
```

```sh
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/physealabs~app-review-insights/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=$APIFY_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" -d @input.json
```

```python
from apify_client import ApifyClient
items = ApifyClient("YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN").actor("physealabs/app-review-insights").call(run_input={"searchTerms": ["budget tracker"], "appsPerSearch": 3, "apps": [], "maxReviewsPerApp": 20, "country": "us"})
```

It also works from Zapier, Make, n8n and Apify schedules.
