# Tech Stack Detector & Emails: Wappalyzer, BuiltWith alternative (`pikoulas/website-tech-stack-contacts`) Actor

Give a list of websites, get each one's tech stack (CMS, e-commerce platform, analytics, payments, frameworks, hosting, CDN, with versions) plus its emails, phones, social profiles and contact page. 7,000+ Wappalyzer fingerprints, no browser, $5 per 1,000 sites.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Tech Stack Detector & Emails (Wappalyzer and BuiltWith alternative)

Paste a list of websites and get back, for each one, **the technologies it runs on** and **how to
contact it**, in one row per site:

- **Tech stack.** CMS, e-commerce platform, analytics, tag managers, payment processors,
  JavaScript frameworks, CDN, hosting and security, with versions where the site shows them. It
  uses more than 7,000 Wappalyzer-compatible fingerprints across 100+ categories.
- **Contacts.** Emails, phone numbers, and Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X/Twitter, TikTok and
  YouTube profiles. They come from the homepage and from the site's contact, imprint or about
  page, which the actor finds and reads for you.

It works as a technology lookup the way Wappalyzer and BuiltWith do. It needs no browser, so it
is fast, and at **$5 per 1,000 websites** it is a fraction of what other tech-lookup tools
charge.

### What people use it for

- **Lead generation:** take a list of domains and find every Shopify, WooCommerce or Magento
  store in it, together with a contact email.
- **Sales targeting:** find the sites that use a competitor's product (for example Klaviyo,
  HubSpot or Stripe) and reach out to them.
- **Market research:** see which technologies an industry or country uses.
- **Enrichment:** add technology and contact columns to a CRM or spreadsheet export.

### How to find a website's tech stack and emails

1. Put domains or URLs in **Websites**, one per line (`acme.com`, `https://shop.acme.com/`).
2. Leave **Include contacts** on for emails, phones and socials; turn it off for the tech stack
   only.
3. Run it, then download the results as JSON, CSV or Excel, or read them through the API.

Around 10 sites are scanned in parallel by default. Raise **Sites in parallel** for lists of tens
of thousands.

### Output

One item per website:

```json
{
  "domain": "allbirds.com",
  "finalUrl": "https://www.allbirds.com/",
  "statusCode": 200,
  "title": "Allbirds: Comfortable, Sustainable Shoes & Apparel",
  "language": "en-US",
  "technologyNames": ["Apple Pay", "Cloudflare", "Google Tag Manager", "PayPal", "Shopify", "Swiper"],
  "technologiesByCategory": {
    "Ecommerce": ["Shopify"],
    "Payment processors": ["Apple Pay", "PayPal"],
    "CDN": ["Cloudflare"],
    "Tag managers": ["Google Tag Manager"]
  },
  "technologies": [
    {"name": "Shopify", "version": null, "confidence": 100, "categories": ["Ecommerce"], "website": "https://shopify.com"}
  ],
  "emails": ["help@allbirds.com"],
  "phones": [],
  "socials": {"instagram": ["https://instagram.com/allbirds"], "tiktok": ["https://tiktok.com/@weareallbirds"]},
  "contactPage": null
}
```

A site that cannot be reached comes back with an `error` field and costs nothing.

### Use it as an API

One call runs it and returns the results as JSON (for runs under 5 minutes; longer ones start a
run and read its dataset). Apify's Python and JavaScript clients, and its Make, Zapier and n8n
integrations, work the same way.

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/pikoulas~website-tech-stack-contacts/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"urls": ["apify.com", "allbirds.com", "wordpress.org/news/"]}'
```

AI agents can call it as a tool through Apify's MCP server: `https://mcp.apify.com?tools=pikoulas/website-tech-stack-contacts`.

### How much does it cost to look up a website's tech stack?

You pay **$0.005 per website analyzed**, which is $5 per 1,000. Unreachable sites are free. Runs
that go through Apify's residential proxy also pay its traffic, $0.0012 per 100 KB. There are no
monthly fees and no minimums.

### Good to know

- Detection reads the HTML, headers, cookies, scripts and meta tags that the site serves. A few
  technologies can only be seen by running the page's JavaScript in a browser, and those are not
  detected.
- Emails come only from what the site publishes. Obvious placeholders such as `you@example.com`
  are dropped.
- Most sites need no proxy. If a site blocks the actor, turn on Apify Proxy in the input.
- Only public pages are read. Using the contact data is subject to the laws where you operate
  (GDPR, CAN-SPAM and similar).

### FAQ

#### Is it legal to scan websites for their tech stack and emails?

It reads only what the websites show publicly, without logging in. Scraping public data is
generally legal, but personal data is protected by laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA, and
each website's terms may limit how you use what you collect. Email addresses found on a site are
still personal data; laws such as the GDPR, the CCPA and the CAN-SPAM Act limit what you may do
with them, cold outreach included. If you're unsure, ask a lawyer;
Apify's [Is web scraping legal?](https://blog.apify.com/is-web-scraping-legal/) is a good start.
