## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

### 🛒 Coles Product Scraper

Scrape **Coles specials, half-price offers and product prices** from coles.com.au without an account. The **Coles Product Scraper** returns each product's price, was price, unit price, size, offer text, availability and category. Use it as a Coles price tracker, a Coles API alternative or a source for grocery price comparison.

### 🎯 Use Cases

- Pull Coles specials this week as a clean table instead of reading the catalogue
- Track Coles half-price deals: paste `https://www.coles.com.au/on-special?filter_Special=halfprice` and alert on new ones
- Build a Coles price history with a daily or weekly schedule
- Compare Coles vs Woolworths prices on the same keywords with the sister actor
- Monitor brands and categories for price moves and multi-buy offers

### ✨ Features

- **All Coles specials**: tick Specials only with no keywords and the run walks every department
- **Past the result ceiling**: Coles lists about 5,000 products per listing, so specials and big categories are split into sub-categories automatically and repeats are removed
- **Offer text as shown on the shelf**: "1/2 Price", "Buy 2 for $6", "save $3.00"
- **Your filters kept**: paste a search, category or specials URL with its brand filter, sort and page
- **One row shape across shops**: Coles, Woolworths and ALDI actors share the same field names, so their output can go in one table
- **Fair billing**: each product is charged once per run, and rows without a price are never charged

### 🛠️ How It Works

1. **Enter keywords or paste URLs** from coles.com.au. Clear the keywords and tick **Specials only** to get everything on special.
2. **Set the limit**: how many products for each keyword or URL. The default is 50.
3. **Run the Scraper** and download the results as JSON, CSV or Excel, or pull them through the API.

### ⚙️ Input

| Field | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| **Search keywords** | Products to search, one per line. |
| **Category, specials or search URLs** | Pages from coles.com.au. |
| **Specials only** | Keep only products on special. With no keywords or URLs, returns everything on special. |
| **Max products per search** | Stop after this many products for each keyword or URL. Default 50. |

```json
{
    "queries": [
        "milk",
        "bread"
    ],
    "categoryUrls": [
        "https://www.coles.com.au/browse/dairy-eggs-fridge/milk"
    ],
    "specialsOnly": true,
    "maxItems": 200
}
```

A product found by two of your searches is saved and charged once, under the first search that found it. With an empty input the actor searches for "milk".

### 💰 Pricing

You pay per product saved, plus a small fee for each run.

| Event | Price |
| --- | --- |
| Product | $0.001 |
| Actor start (`apify-actor-start`) | $0.00005 |

- 50 products: $0.05005
- 1,000 products: $1.00005
- 5,000 products: $5.00005

Set a maximum charge on a run and it stops there. Only the rows you received are charged.

### 📦 Sample Output Data

```json
{
    "id": "6164463",
    "retailer": "Coles",
    "name": "Original Crackers",
    "brand": "Ritz",
    "url": "https://www.coles.com.au/product/ritz-original-crackers-227g-6164463",
    "image": "https://productimages.coles.com.au/productimages/6/6164463.jpg",
    "price": 1.75,
    "wasPrice": 3.5,
    "currency": "AUD",
    "unitPrice": 0.77,
    "unit": "100g",
    "size": "227g",
    "onSpecial": true,
    "offerText": "1/2 Price",
    "available": true,
    "category": "Chips, Chocolates & Snacks > Crackers & Rice Cakes > Crackers & Crispbreads",
    "barcode": null,
    "store": "7674",
    "source": "all specials",
    "scrapedAt": "2026-11-01T08:04:17.349Z"
}
```

`unitPrice` and `unit` are the shop's comparison price, such as $1.65 per 1L. `source` is the keyword or URL that found the product. `barcode` is always empty: Coles does not show barcodes in its listings. `wasPrice` is empty unless the shop prints one; some specials and multi-buys have none, and those still carry `onSpecial` and usually `offerText`.

### 📅 Coles Price Tracker and Coles Specials

Coles specials change every Wednesday, so a weekly Wednesday run is the usual price tracker; run daily if you follow price moves closely. Set it up with Apify **Schedules**, then send each run's rows to Google Sheets, Zapier, Make, n8n or your own webhook through the Apify integrations.

### 🤖 Use with AI agents (MCP)

This actor works as a tool in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other MCP clients through the Apify MCP server (`https://mcp.apify.com`). A minimal input an agent can copy:

```json
{ "queries": ["milk"], "maxItems": 20 }
```

### ❓ FAQ

**Does Coles have an official API?**
Coles does not offer a public self-serve API for shelf prices, as far as we can tell. This actor is the practical alternative: no key, no approval, and you get the shelf price, offer text and unit price in one row.

**Do I need a Coles account?**
No. The actor reads what any visitor sees, with no login.

**Which store are the prices from?**
Prices are the ones coles.com.au shows a visitor with no store selected, and every row names that store in `store` (currently `7674`). Choosing another store is not offered: nothing we could set changed the prices in our checks.

**Why is a field empty?**
`barcode` is always empty: Coles does not show barcodes in its listings. `wasPrice` is empty unless the shop prints one; some specials and multi-buys have none, and those still carry `onSpecial` and usually `offerText`.

**Are there limits?**
One Coles search shows at most about 5,000 products. A search that reaches that limit says so in the run status: use category URLs for the rest. Specials and category URLs are split automatically, so they are not limited this way.

**How do I get all Coles specials this week?**
Clear the keywords, tick **Specials only** and set the limit to 10,000. Coles had about 7,900 products on special when we tested, and the run reaches them through the departments.
