## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

### 🚀 Reddit Search Scraper

Search **Reddit posts by keyword** and export the results. The **Reddit Search Scraper** saves each matching post's title, subreddit, author, score, comment count, date, link and thumbnail, and can add the **full post text**. Search all of Reddit or one subreddit, sort by relevance, hot, top, new or most comments, and filter by time range. Use it for brand monitoring, market and product research, lead generation, trend tracking, sentiment analysis or AI training data. No Reddit account needed.

### ✨ Features

- 🔎 **Keyword Search**: Many queries per run, each with its own limit. Search all of Reddit or a single subreddit.
- 🗂️ **Sort and Time Filters**: Relevance, hot, top, new or most comments; past hour, day, week, month, year or all time.
- 📝 **Full Post Text (optional)**: Turn on "Include post text" to add the body and the outbound link of link, image and video posts.
- 📈 **Past the 250-Post Limit**: Reddit lists about 250 posts per search. When you ask for more, the Actor combines other sort orders and narrower time ranges and removes duplicates.
- 📅 **Posted After**: Keep only posts newer than a date, handy for scheduled monitoring.
- 🧹 **No Duplicates**: A post found by several queries or sort orders is saved and charged once.

### 🛠️ How It Works

1. **Enter search queries**: one keyword or phrase per line.
2. **Pick filters**: optionally a subreddit, sort order, time range and "Posted after" date.
3. **Run the Scraper**: download the posts as JSON, CSV or Excel, or pull them through the API.

### ⚙️ Input

| Field                                   | What it does                                                                                             |
| --------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Search queries** | Keywords to search for, one per line. Default `chatgpt`. |
| **Only in subreddit**                   | Optional. A subreddit name or link (`SaaS`, `r/SaaS`, `https://www.reddit.com/r/SaaS/`).                 |
| **Sort by** | Relevance (default), Hot, Top, New or Most comments. |
| **Time range** | All time (default), past year, month, week, 24 hours or hour. |
| **Max posts per query** | Stop after this many posts for each query. Default 50. |
| **Include post text** | Adds each post's full text and outbound link. A little slower, same price. Default off. |
| **Include NSFW posts** | Keep posts marked 18+. Default off. |
| **Posted after** | Optional date (YYYY-MM-DD). Older posts are skipped. |
| **Proxy configuration** | Residential proxies are needed. The default works. |

```json
{
    "queries": ["notion vs obsidian", "best crm for startups"],
    "sort": "top",
    "time": "year",
    "maxItems": 200,
    "includeBody": true
}
```

#### How many posts can I get?

Reddit shows about **250 posts for one search with one sort order and time range**. Up to that, results follow your sort order exactly. When "Max posts per query" is higher, the Actor also searches the other sort orders and narrower time ranges (never wider than the one you picked) and keeps only new posts. For a popular keyword this goes well past 1,000 unique posts (a test for "chatgpt" found about 1,600 in 8 of the combinations). Posts beyond the first ~250 are no longer in one single order, and each row says which sort order and time range found it (`searchSort`, `searchTime`). When a search runs out of posts before your limit, the run's status message says how many were found.

### 💰 Pricing

Pay only for the posts you get. No monthly rental.

| Event           | Price                                | What you get                                           |
| --------------- | ------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Post** | $0.0015 per post ($1.50 per 1,000) | One post with all fields below, text included if on |
| **Actor start** | $0.00005 per run | Charged once when the run starts. |

Examples: 1,000 posts = $1.50 · 10,000 posts = $15.00. The price is the same with or without the full post text. Posts that were removed before they could be opened are skipped and not charged.

### 📊 Sample Output Data

With "Include post text" on:

```json
{
    "id": "1vn54hk",
    "url": "https://www.reddit.com/r/Notion/comments/1vn54hk/dont_put_anything_important_into_notion/",
    "title": "Don't put anything important into Notion",
    "author": "greatlove8704",
    "authorId": "t2_m5x5t1075",
    "subreddit": "Notion",
    "subredditId": "t5_hds7r",
    "score": 880,
    "numComments": 142,
    "createdAt": "2026-08-13T08:43:27.576Z",
    "isNsfw": false,
    "isSpoiler": false,
    "thumbnail": null,
    "body": "I'm working in a workspace together with teammates and a professor at university, researching AI agents together. Today the workspace suddenly got suspended, and everyone lost all their AI chats. …",
    "linkUrl": null,
    "query": "notion",
    "searchSort": "relevance",
    "searchTime": "all",
    "scrapedAt": "2026-10-20T07:01:12.310Z"
}
```

Without the option, rows have the same fields except `body` and `linkUrl`.

### ❓ FAQ

**Do I need a Reddit account or API key?** No.

**Are comments included?** No, this Actor saves posts. `numComments` gives each post's comment count.

**Why are some bodies empty?** Image, video and link posts often have no text (`linkUrl` then points to the media or page), and some communities, like r/AskReddit, use title-only posts.

**Is the upvote ratio included?** No. `score` (net upvotes) and `numComments` are included for every post.

**Are NSFW posts included?** Only when "Include NSFW posts" is on, and only those Reddit shows to visitors who are not logged in.

**Can I monitor a keyword every day?** Yes. Schedule the Actor with sort "New" and a "Posted after" date, and each run collects only recent posts.

# Actor input Schema

## `queries` (type: `array`):

Keywords to search Reddit posts for, one per line. Each query is searched separately.

## `subreddit` (type: `string`):

Optional. Search only inside one community, e.g. SaaS or https://www.reddit.com/r/SaaS/. Leave empty to search all of Reddit.

## `sort` (type: `string`):

Order of the search results.

## `time` (type: `string`):

Only posts from this period.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many posts for each query. One Reddit search order lists about 250 posts; above that, the Actor combines other orders and narrower time ranges to find more (see README).

## `includeBody` (type: `boolean`):

Add each post's full text and its outbound link (for link, image and video posts). A little slower; same price per post.

## `includeNsfw` (type: `boolean`):

Keep posts marked 18+.

## `postedAfter` (type: `string`):

Optional. Skip posts older than this date (YYYY-MM-DD). Handy for scheduled runs.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Residential proxies are needed for reliable results. The default works.
