## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

### 🚀 Totaljobs Jobs Scraper

Extract job listings from **Totaljobs.com**, one of the UK's largest job boards. The **Totaljobs Jobs Scraper** turns any keyword, location or Totaljobs search URL into structured job data: title, company, location, posting and expiry dates, the **salary as advertised plus a parsed min/max and pay period**, and optionally the **full job description** and employer profile.

### ✨ Features

- 💼 **Complete job data**: title, company, location and postcode, posting date, expiry date, labels (Featured, New), snippet and job URL for every result.
- 💷 **Salaries you can filter on**: the employer's salary text (`£35,000 - £40,000 per annum + bonus`) plus `salaryMin`, `salaryMax`, `salaryCurrency` and `salaryPeriod` (year, month, week, day, hour).
- 📝 **Full descriptions**: turn on details to get the whole job ad as clean text, contract type (permanent, contract, temporary), employment type, industry and the employer's address, size and sector.
- 🔍 **Search or paste URLs**: use keyword + location, or paste any Totaljobs search page with its filters (radius, salary, job type), a company's jobs page, or single job URLs. A pasted page 3 starts at page 3.
- 🆕 **New jobs only**: schedule the scraper and receive only the jobs posted since the previous run.
- 📚 **No page limit**: export thousands of jobs from one search; every job is saved once, even across overlapping searches.

### 🛠️ How It Works

1. **Describe the search** – enter a job title or keyword and a UK town, city, county or postcode, or paste Totaljobs URLs.
2. **Choose the depth** – keep it fast with listings only, or enable **Scrape full job details** for descriptions and employer profiles.
3. **Run the scraper** – download the jobs as JSON, CSV or Excel, or pull them through the API. Enable **Only new jobs since the last run** on a schedule to build a job alert feed.

### ⚙️ Input

| Field | Description |
| ------------------------------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Job title or keyword** | What to search for, e.g. `software developer`, `data analyst`, `nurse`. |
| **Location** | Town, city, county or postcode in the UK, e.g. `London`, `Manchester`, `SW1A`. Empty = all UK. |
| **Date posted** | Any time, last 24 hours, 3, 7 or 14 days. |
| **Sort by** | Relevance or newest first. |
| **Totaljobs URLs** | Optional. Search pages, company jobs pages or single job URLs. Replaces the fields above. |
| **Scrape full job details** | Adds the full description, contract type, structured salary and employer profile. |
| **Only new jobs since the last run** | For schedules: outputs only jobs posted since the previous run of the same search. |
| **Max results** | Maximum number of jobs to save (default 50). |

### 💰 How much does it cost to scrape Totaljobs?

Pay only for the jobs you get, with no monthly fee:

| Event | Price | When it's charged |
| ----------- | ----------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Actor start | **$0.00005** | Once per run |
| Job listing | **$0.0015** ($1.50 per 1,000) | For every job saved from search results |
| Job details | **$0.004** ($4 per 1,000) | Instead of the listing, for every job saved with full details |

For example, 1,000 jobs cost about **$1.50**, or **$4** with full details. A scheduled run that finds no new jobs saves nothing and costs only the start fee. Set a maximum cost per run in Apify and the scraper stops when it reaches it.

### ℹ️ Good to Know

- Salary numbers are read from the employer's own text. "Competitive" or "Unspecified" keeps `salaryText` and leaves the numbers empty; "Up to £50,000" fills only `salaryMax`.
- Totaljobs shows some jobs from its sister boards; `sourceSite` names the board a job comes from.
- Jobs removed between the search and the detail visit are skipped and not charged. The run's status message explains any shortfall.
- This scraper covers totaljobs.com (United Kingdom).

### ❓ FAQ

**Is it legal to scrape Totaljobs?**
The scraper collects only publicly visible job ads. You are responsible for using the data lawfully (e.g. UK GDPR) and for respecting the site's terms.

**Can I use the site's own filters?**
Yes. Set the filters on totaljobs.com (radius, salary, job type, date posted), copy the URL of the results page and paste it into **Totaljobs URLs**.

# Actor input Schema

## `keyword` (type: `string`):

What to search for on totaljobs.com, e.g. `software developer`, `data analyst`, `nurse`, `HGV driver`. Leave empty to get every job in the location.

## `location` (type: `string`):

Town, city, county or postcode in the UK, e.g. `London`, `Manchester`, `Leeds`, `SW1A`. Leave empty for the whole UK.

## `postedWithin` (type: `string`):

The site's own date filter. It also counts jobs the employer refreshed within the period, so some rows can show an older `datePosted`.

## `sort` (type: `string`):

Order of the results. With a Max results limit this decides which jobs you get.

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

Paste totaljobs.com URLs instead of using the fields above: a search page with any filters applied (`https://www.totaljobs.com/jobs/developer/in-london?radius=10&salary=50000&salarytypeid=1`), a company's jobs page or a single job (`https://www.totaljobs.com/job/...-job108091471`). A search URL with `page=3` starts at page 3. When set, keyword, location, date posted and sort are ignored.

## `scrapeDetails` (type: `boolean`):

Open every job and add the full description, contract type, expiry date, structured salary where the employer gives one, and the employer profile (address, size, industry). Charged as a job detail instead of a job listing.

## `onlyNewJobs` (type: `boolean`):

For scheduled runs: remember what this search returned and only output jobs posted since the previous run. The first run saves the baseline. Results are sorted newest first.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of jobs to save.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Proxy used to reach totaljobs.com. The default works for most runs.
