## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Douban Scraper

Extract ratings and reviews from [Douban](https://www.douban.com) (豆瓣), the site Chinese audiences use to rate movies, TV shows and books. It is China's counterpart to IMDb and Goodreads, and a Douban score often decides how a release performs in China.

Use it to measure how Chinese audiences received a film, series or book, to collect Chinese-language review text for sentiment analysis, or to track charts over time.

- **Reviews with star ratings.** Each review comes with the reviewer's own 1 to 5 star score, useful votes, date and city.
- **Rating breakdown.** Get the share of 1 to 5 star ratings, not just the average.
- **English field names.** Output is clean JSON with names like `rating`, `stars` and `usefulCount`. Text content stays in Chinese.
- **No login and no proxy needed.**
- **Low price.** $4 per 1,000 results.

### What data can you get?

| Mode | One result is | Main fields |
|---|---|---|
| Short reviews | One short review | Text, stars, useful votes, date, author, author city |
| Long reviews | One review article | Title, text, stars, useful votes, comment count, author |
| Details | One movie, TV show or book | Rating, number of ratings, rating breakdown, cast, genres, summary, review counts, watched and wishlist counts |
| Charts | One title on a chart | Rank, title, rating, number of ratings |
| Find titles | One matching title | Title, type, rating, Douban URL |

### How to use it

1. Click **Try for free**.
2. Choose a mode in **What to scrape**.
3. Paste Douban URLs in **Subject URLs**, or pick a chart, or add keywords.
4. Click **Start**, then download the results as JSON, CSV or Excel.

If you do not know a title's Douban URL, run **Find titles by keyword** first.

}
```
Ratings are on Douban's scale of 10. A reviewer's `stars` are on a scale of 5. Dates are in China Standard Time (UTC+8).
### How much does it cost?
You pay per saved result: **$4.00 per 1,000 results**. There is no start fee and no monthly rental. Getting the full text of long reviews does not change the price.
| Run | Results | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| All available short reviews of one movie | 150 | $0.60 |
| The Top 250 movies | 250 | $1.00 |
| Details of 100 titles | 100 | $0.40 |
Set a maximum charge per run in the run options and the Actor stops when it is reached.
### Limits you should know
Douban shows only part of its content to visitors who are not logged in. The Actor collects everything a visitor can see:
- **Short reviews: up to 150 per title**, the ones Douban ranks as most useful.
- **Long reviews: up to 40 per title**, the ones Douban ranks as most useful.
- **Find titles: the best matches only**, usually 5 to 20 per keyword. It is meant for finding a title's URL, not for listing a whole category. For lists, use charts.
- **Music is not supported.**
Counts such as `shortReviewCount` show how many reviews exist in total.
### Tips
- **Run it on a schedule.** Scrape details every day during a release to track how the rating and the number of ratings move.
- **Combine modes.** Run a chart first, then feed the `url` values into short reviews mode.
### FAQ
**Is it legal?** The Actor collects only data that Douban shows publicly to every visitor. Results can contain personal data such as usernames. Make sure you have a legitimate reason to process it, as required by the GDPR and similar laws.
**Can I get reviews in English?** Reviews are written by Douban users, almost always in Chinese. The Actor does not translate them.
**Something is broken or missing?** Open a ticket in the Issues tab. Issues are usually answered within a day.
# Actor input Schema
## `mode` (type: `string`):
Choose the kind of data you need. Each mode uses the matching input below.
## `subjectUrls` (type: `array`):
Used in short reviews, long reviews and details modes. Paste Douban URLs of movies, TV shows or books, for example https://movie.douban.com/subject/1292052/. Numeric ids work too.
## `searchQueries` (type: `array`):
Used in find titles mode. Chinese titles work best, for example "三体". English original titles often work too.
## `subjectType` (type: `string`):
Used in find titles mode.
## `chart` (type: `string`):
Used in charts mode.
## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):
Maximum number of results to save in this run.
## `maxItemsPerQuery` (type: `integer`):
Optional. Limits results for each title or each keyword, so that one source does not use up the whole run.
## `includeFullText` (type: `boolean`):
Used in long reviews mode. Without it you get the first 300 characters of each review. Makes one extra request per review, so runs take longer.
## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):
Optional. The Actor works without a proxy. Turn one on only if runs start failing with blocked requests.
## Actor input object example
```json
{
  "mode": "shortReviews",
  "subjectUrls": [
    "https://movie.douban.com/subject/1292052/"
  ],
  "subjectType": "all",
  "chart": "movieTop250",
  "maxItems": 100,
  "includeFullText": false,
  "proxyConfiguration": {
    "useApifyProxy": false
  }
}
```
# Actor output Schema
## `results` (type: `string`):
Reviews, titles or chart entries saved by the run, one item per result.
