## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google Play Reviews Scraper

Extract app reviews from the [Google Play Store](https://play.google.com/store/apps), together with app details and app search results. Product teams use it to find out what users complain about, marketers use it to watch competitors, and researchers use it to collect review text for sentiment analysis.

- **Full review history.** Goes back through all reviews of an app, not only the first few pages. In our tests it read 150,000 reviews of one app in a single pass.
- **Developer replies included.** Each review comes with the developer's answer and its date, when there is one.
- **Filter and sort.** Newest, most relevant or highest rating first. Keep only 1-star reviews, or any other star rating.
- **Any language and country.** Collect reviews written in English, Spanish, Japanese or any other language Google Play supports.
- **No login and no proxy needed.** Press Start and get data.
- **Low price.** $0.20 per 1,000 results.

### What data can you get?

| Mode | One result is | Main fields |
|---|---|---|
| Reviews | One review | Star rating, text, date, helpful votes, app version, user name, developer reply and reply date |
| App details | One app | Title, developer, rating, number of ratings, rating breakdown by stars, installs, price, category, version, last update, description, screenshots, developer contact |
| Search | One app | Title, developer, rating, installs, price, category, description, position in the results |

### How to use it

1. Click **Try for free**.
2. Choose a mode in **What to scrape**.
3. Paste Google Play links or app ids in **Apps**, or add keywords in **Search keywords**.
4. Click **Start**, then download the results as JSON, CSV or Excel.

The app id is the part after `id=` in a Google Play link. In `https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spotify.music` the app id is `com.spotify.music`. If you do not know it, run **Search apps by keyword** first.

### How much does it cost?

You pay per saved result: **$0.20 per 1,000 results**. There is no start fee and no monthly rental. A review, an app and a search result each count as one result.

| Run | Results | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| 100 newest reviews of one app | 100 | $0.02 |
| 3,000 reviews each for 5 apps | 15,000 | $3.00 |
| Details of 200 apps | 200 | $0.04 |

Set a maximum charge per run in the run options and the Actor stops when it is reached.

### Limits you should know

- **Reviews come in one language per run.** Google Play returns only the reviews written in the language you choose. To collect reviews in several languages, start one run per language.
- **Only reviews with text.** The number of ratings of an app is much larger than the number of reviews, because most users give stars without writing anything. Ratings without text cannot be collected. The app details show both numbers (`ratingsCount` and `reviewsCount`).
- **Search returns at most 30 apps per keyword.** This is what Google Play shows on its search page. Some keywords return fewer. Use several related keywords to find more apps.
- **Search results have fewer fields.** They do not include the number of ratings, the rating breakdown, the version or the update date. Turn on **Add full app details to search results** to add them.
- **Version is empty for some apps.** Apps such as Spotify show "Varies with device" on Google Play, so `version` and `androidVersion` are empty for them. About 1 in 5 reviews has no `appVersion` either.
- **The date of a review is the date of its last edit.** When a user edits a review after the developer answered, the reply can be older than the review.
- **Speed.** About 8,500 reviews per minute. We tested runs up to 20,000 reviews on Apify and 150,000 reviews in one pass from our own machine without being slowed down by Google. Larger runs were not tested.
- **The exact install count is an estimate.** `installs` and `minInstalls` are the public numbers. `installsEstimate` is a more precise figure that Google includes in the page data.

### Tips

- **Monitor new reviews.** Schedule a daily run sorted by newest with a small **Max results**, and you get a steady feed of fresh reviews.
- **Find the problems first.** Set **Star rating** to 1 star and sort by most relevant to read the complaints other users agreed with most.
- **Compare countries.** The same app can have a different price, rating and availability in each country. Run app details with different country codes.

### FAQ

**Is it legal?** The Actor collects only data that Google Play shows publicly to every visitor. Results contain personal data such as user names. Make sure you have a legitimate reason to process it, as required by the GDPR and similar laws.

**Do I need a Google account or an API key?** No.

**An app was skipped as "not found". Why?** The app id is wrong, the app was removed, or the app is not available in the country you chose. Try another country code.

**Something is broken or missing?** Open a ticket in the Issues tab. Issues are usually answered within a day.

# Actor input Schema

## `mode` (type: `string`):

Choose the kind of data you need. Each mode uses the matching input below.

## `appIds` (type: `array`):

Used in reviews and app details modes. Paste Google Play links or app ids. The app id is the part after "id=" in the link, for example com.spotify.music.

## `searchQueries` (type: `array`):

Used in search mode. For example "meditation" or "photo editor". Google Play shows up to 30 apps per keyword.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of results to save in this run.

## `maxItemsPerApp` (type: `integer`):

Optional. Limits the reviews saved for each app, so that one big app does not use up the whole run.

## `sort` (type: `string`):

Used in reviews mode. "Newest" is best for monitoring. "Most relevant" is the order Google Play shows to visitors.

## `rating` (type: `string`):

Used in reviews mode. Save only reviews with this number of stars.

## `language` (type: `string`):

Language code, for example en, es, de, fr, ja or pt-BR. Google Play returns only the reviews written in this language, and shows app texts in this language.

## `country` (type: `string`):

Two-letter country code of the store, for example us, gb, de or jp. It decides which apps are available, the price and the currency.

## `includeDetails` (type: `boolean`):

Used in search mode. Opens every app page to add ratings count, histogram, developer contact, version and update date. Makes one extra request per app, so runs take longer.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Optional. The Actor works without a proxy. Turn one on only if runs start failing with blocked requests.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "mode": "reviews",
  "appIds": [
    "com.spotify.music"
  ],
  "maxItems": 100,
  "sort": "newest",
  "rating": "all",
  "language": "en",
  "country": "us",
  "includeDetails": false,
  "proxyConfiguration": {
    "useApifyProxy": false
  }
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

Reviews or apps saved by the run, one item per result.
