## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Sports Injury Reports

Get the current injury report of every team in the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, WNBA, college football and college basketball, from [ESPN](https://www.espn.com)'s public website, without an API key.

Fantasy players, betting model builders, sports apps, newsletters and analysts use it to know who is out before the next game, and to build their own injury history by running it every day.

- **All teams of a league in one run.** One row per injured player, for as many leagues as you pick.
- **The details that matter.** Status (Out, Doubtful, Questionable, Day-To-Day, injured reserve...), fantasy status, injury type, body part, side, expected return date, last update time, and ESPN's short and long notes.
- **Clean IDs and links.** ESPN player and team IDs, team abbreviation, position, headshot and player page link, so you can join the data with box scores and rosters.
- **No login, no API key, no proxy.**
- **Low price.** $0.50 per 1,000 injured players.

### How to use it

1. Click **Try for free**.
2. Pick the **Leagues** (or leave them empty for NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL).
3. Optionally add **Teams** to keep only some of them.
4. Click **Start**, then download the results as JSON, CSV or Excel.

To track injuries over time, create a schedule in Apify (for example every morning) and compare the runs.

### Input example

```json
{
    "leagues": ["nfl", "nba"],
    "teams": ["Chiefs", "Lakers", "BOS"]
}
}
### How much does it cost?
You pay per saved result: **$0.50 per 1,000 injured players**. There is no start fee and no monthly rental.
| Run | Results | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| NBA injury report | 87 | $0.04 |
| NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL | 1,210 | $0.61 |
| The same four leagues every day for a month | about 36,000 | about $18 |
Set **Max results** or a maximum charge per run in the run options, and the Actor stops when it is reached.
### Limits you should know
- **This is the current list only.** ESPN shows who is injured now, not past injuries. Schedule the Actor daily to build a history.
- **Expected return dates are estimates** from ESPN and are often empty or change.
- **NFL lists include players marked Active.** ESPN keeps players who returned from an injury on the NFL report for a while with the status Active. Filter on `status` if you only want players who are out or questionable. In our test, 596 of 800 NFL rows were Active.
- **Out of season, lists are short.** A league in its off-season may return only long-term injuries, or none.
- **This is unofficial.** The Actor reads the public JSON data that ESPN's own website and apps load. It is not made by, endorsed by or connected to ESPN.
### FAQ
**Is it legal?** The Actor collects only data that ESPN shows publicly to every visitor, about professional and college athletes. Make sure your use respects ESPN's terms if you republish the notes.
**Something is broken or missing?** Open a ticket in the Issues tab. Issues are usually answered within a day.
# Actor input Schema
## `leagues` (type: `array`):
One or more leagues. Leave empty for NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL.
## `teams` (type: `array`):
Optional. Keeps only these teams: names, abbreviations, ESPN team IDs or ESPN team page URLs, for example "Lakers", "KC" or https://www.espn.com/nfl/team/\_/name/kc/kansas-city-chiefs .
## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):
Maximum number of results to save. The run stops when this is reached.
## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):
Optional. ESPN's public data works without a proxy. Set one only if runs keep failing.
## Actor input object example
```json
{
  "leagues": [
    "nfl",
    "nba",
    "mlb",
    "nhl"
  ],
  "maxItems": 5000,
  "proxyConfiguration": {
    "useApifyProxy": false
  }
}
```
# Actor output Schema
## `results` (type: `string`):
Injured players saved by the run, one item each.
