## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Hurricane & Tropical Storm Tracker — Active Storms & Outlooks

Track **active hurricanes, tropical storms and depressions** in the **Atlantic, Eastern Pacific and Central Pacific** as clean rows: name, classification, maximum sustained wind (knots), central pressure, position, movement, advisory number and direct links to the advisory, discussion, wind probabilities and **GIS track / cone KMZ** files. Each basin's latest **Tropical Weather Outlook** text is added too, so every run returns data even when no storm is active. Built on the public feeds of the National Hurricane Center. Useful for logistics and shipping, insurance and energy risk monitoring, travel alerts, newsrooms, dashboards and AI agents.

### Input examples

```json
{ "basins": ["atlantic", "eastPacific", "centralPacific"] }
{ "basins": ["atlantic"], "includeOutlooks": false, "minWindKnots": 64 }
{ "basins": ["eastPacific"], "includeStorms": false }
```

### Output (one row per storm or outlook)

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| type | storm or outlook |
| basin | atlantic · eastPacific · centralPacific |
| stormId, name | e.g. al102026, Josephine (outlook rows: outlook title) |
| classification, classificationName | TD, TS, HU, STS, PTC … |
| windKnots, pressureMb | Maximum sustained wind (knots, as published) and minimum central pressure (mb) |
| latitude, longitude, movementDirDeg, movementSpeedMph | Position and motion |
| updatedAt, advisoryNumber | Time of the latest advisory (UTC) |
| publicAdvisoryUrl, forecastAdvisoryUrl, forecastDiscussionUrl, windProbabilitiesUrl, graphicsUrl | Official product pages |
| trackKmz, coneKmz, gisZip, watchesWarningsKmz | GIS files for maps |
| outlookText | Outlook rows: full outlook text (HTML tags removed, wording unchanged) |
| source | Data source statement |

# Actor input Schema

## `basins` (type: `array`):

Ocean basins to include: atlantic (incl. Gulf and Caribbean), eastPacific, centralPacific.

## `includeStorms` (type: `boolean`):

One row per active tropical cyclone, post-tropical or potential tropical cyclone.

## `includeOutlooks` (type: `boolean`):

One row per basin with the latest Tropical Weather Outlook text (issued every 6 hours, also when no storm is active).

## `minWindKnots` (type: `integer`):

Only storms with maximum sustained wind at or above this value. 0 = all; 34 = tropical storm strength; 64 = hurricane.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "basins": [
    "atlantic",
    "eastPacific",
    "centralPacific"
  ],
  "includeStorms": true,
  "includeOutlooks": true,
  "minWindKnots": 0
}
