## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## SEO Page Audit & On-Page Checker

Audit web pages for on-page SEO: title, meta description, H1, canonical, robots, Open Graph, image alt text, links, word count, with issues and a score.

### What it does

Give it a list of page URLs. It fetches each page once (robots.txt respected) and returns one row per page with the on-page SEO facts: title and meta description with their lengths, H1 headings and H2 count, canonical link, meta robots, `html lang`, viewport, hreflang codes, Open Graph tags and the social card type, JSON-LD block count, images with and without alt text, internal, external and nofollow link counts, word count and response time. Each row ends with a plain-English list of issues (missing H1, title too long, images without alt text, no canonical, and so on) and a 0-100 score.

### Use cases

- Check a batch of landing pages or new blog posts before they go live.
- Run a quick on-page review of a client site and hand over the issue list as a spreadsheet.
- Find pages with missing or duplicate-length titles and meta descriptions across a URL list.
- Spot pages accidentally set to `noindex` or missing a canonical after a redesign.
- Re-run the same URL list monthly to see whether fixes were shipped.

### How to use it

1. Paste the page URLs into **Page URLs**, one per line.
2. Optionally lower **Max results** to cap the number of pages, and with it the cost.
3. Run the Actor. Results land in the dataset; export them as JSON, CSV or Excel, or read them through the Apify API.

### Input

| Field | What it is | Default | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| `urls` (required) | Pages to audit. `example.com` is read as `https://example.com`. Invalid entries are skipped with a log warning. | none | `["https://example.com/pricing", "example.com"]` |
| `maxItems` | Audit at most this many pages. | `100` | `500` |

Example input:

```json
{ "urls": ["https://apify.com", "https://docs.apify.com"], "maxItems": 2 }
```

### Output

One row per audited page. A real row from a run on `https://crawlee.dev`:

```json
{
  "url": "https://crawlee.dev/",
  "finalUrl": "https://crawlee.dev/",
  "statusCode": 200,
  "responseTimeMs": 205,
  "htmlBytes": 53589,
  "title": "Crawlee · Build reliable crawlers. Fast.",
  "titleLength": 40,
  "metaDescription": "Crawlee helps you build and maintain your crawlers. It's open source, but built by developers who scrape millions of pages every day for a living.",
  "metaDescriptionLength": 146,
  "h1": ["Build reliable web scrapers. Fast."],
  "h2Count": 1,
  "canonical": "https://crawlee.dev/",
  "robots": null,
  "lang": "en",
  "viewport": true,
  "hreflang": ["en", "x-default"],
  "openGraph": {"title": "Crawlee for JavaScript · Build reliable crawlers. Fast.", "description": null, "image": "https://crawlee.dev/img/crawlee-og.png"},
  "twitterCard": "summary_large_image",
  "structuredDataBlocks": 0,
  "imagesTotal": 14,
  "imagesWithoutAlt": 0,
  "internalLinks": 16,
  "externalLinks": 10,
  "nofollowLinks": 0,
  "wordCount": 274,
  "issues": ["no JSON-LD structured data"],
  "score": 92
}
```

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `title`, `titleLength` | The `<title>` text and its length in characters. |
| `metaDescription`, `metaDescriptionLength` | The meta description and its length. |
| `h1`, `h2Count` | All H1 texts and the number of H2 headings. |
| `canonical`, `robots` | Canonical link and meta robots value, or `null`. |
| `openGraph`, `twitterCard` | Open Graph title, description, image and the social card type. |
| `imagesWithoutAlt` | Images with no `alt` attribute. |
| `internalLinks`, `externalLinks`, `nofollowLinks` | Link counts on the page. |
| `issues`, `score` | Plain-English problems found and a 0-100 score (8 points off per issue). |

### Pricing

Pay per result: **$5.00 per 1,000 results** ($0.005 per result). You only pay for results the Actor returns. Set a maximum total charge on the run to cap your spend.

### Limits

- Reads the HTML the server returns. It does not run JavaScript, so pages built only in the browser show little content.
- One page per URL: it does not crawl the site.
- Pages blocked by robots.txt, non-HTML responses and errors produce no result and cost nothing. If no page can be audited, the run fails with zero results.
- The score is a simple checklist count, not a ranking prediction.

### FAQ

**How much does it cost?** $5.00 per 1,000 audited pages, so 200 pages cost $1. Pages that fail cost nothing.

**Why is a URL missing from my results?** It was unreachable, disallowed by robots.txt, returned an HTTP error or was not an HTML page (for example a PDF or XML file). The run log names the reason for each skipped URL.

**Can I audit a whole site?** The Actor audits the URLs you give it. To get every page first, see Plain Pipe's Sitemap URL Extractor and paste its URL list here.

**Need more than on-page tags?** See Plain Pipe's Page Weight & Page Size Checker for heavy files, or Plain Pipe's HTTP Headers & Redirect Checker for redirect chains and security headers.

**Can I schedule it?** Yes. Use Apify Schedules for recurring runs and the Apify API, webhooks or integrations (Zapier, Make, spreadsheet tools) to send the results where you need them.

### Legal and data

This Actor processes only what you give it or public, non-personal technical data. It does not log in anywhere, does not collect personal data, and does not bypass paywalls, CAPTCHAs or access controls. You are responsible for having the right to process the inputs you provide.

### Support

Open an issue on the Issues tab. Issues are answered within 14 days.

**Use this when:** you need on-page SEO facts (title, meta description, H1, canonical, Open Graph, alt text) and a fix list for a set of page URLs.

### Why this one

- $5.00 per 1,000 results ($0.005 per audited page); pages that fail are not charged.
- Each row also carries hreflang codes, JSON-LD block count, nofollow link count, response time, a plain-English issue list and a 0-100 score.
- Plain HTTP fetch with robots.txt respected: no browser and no proxy needed; the 2-URL prefill run finishes in under 5 seconds.
- The prefilled input is test-run daily.

Built and maintained by Plain Pipe.

# Actor input Schema

## `urls` (type: `array`):

Pages to audit, one per line, e.g. https://example.com/pricing. A bare domain such as example.com is read as https://example.com. Each page is fetched once and robots.txt is respected. Invalid entries are skipped with a log warning.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Audit at most this many pages, e.g. 500. You are charged per audited page, so this also caps the cost. Default 100.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "urls": [
    "https://apify.com",
    "https://docs.apify.com"
  ],
  "maxItems": 2
}
