## Pricing

from $0.25 / 1,000 domain checkeds

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Domain Availability Checker (Bulk): RDAP + DNS, Name Ideas Included

**Find out which domain names are free to register, hundreds or thousands at a time.** Paste a list of domains, or give keywords and extensions and let the tool build the candidates for you (with optional prefixes, suffixes and hyphenated forms). Every name is checked in DNS, and against the registry's own RDAP service (the official successor to WHOIS) wherever the registry's terms allow it. For names that are taken you can also get the registrar, creation and expiry dates, status codes and nameservers. **$0.40 per 1,000 domains.**

### What does this domain availability checker do?

- **Checks availability at the source.** It looks up each extension in IANA's RDAP directory and asks that registry directly. A "not found" answer from the registry means the name is not registered. Over 1,200 extensions have an RDAP service, including .com, .net, .org, .io, .ai, .app, .dev, .xyz, .co.uk and most new gTLDs.
- **Double-checks with DNS.** Names the registry reports as unregistered are also checked for a DNS delegation, so a name that is live in DNS is never reported as free.
- **Respects registry terms on bulk lookups.** Verisign (.com, .net), Public Interest Registry (.org) and Identity Digital (.io, .ai, .me and its other extensions) do not allow high-volume automated RDAP queries except as needed to register names. For these registries the tool uses RDAP only when a run has **10 or fewer names for that registry**, the size of a normal "can I register this?" check. Larger batches for those registries are checked in DNS only and marked `verified: false`.
- **Covers extensions without RDAP.** For extensions such as .co, .de and .eu, which have no public RDAP service, the tool uses DNS alone and marks the result `verified: false` so you know to confirm it at a registrar.
- **Generates name ideas.** Keywords x extensions, plus prefixes (get, try, my), suffixes (hq, app, labs) and hyphenated variants. Duplicates are removed.
- **Returns details for taken names.** Registrar, IANA ID, created, updated and expiry dates, domain age, days to expiry, status codes and nameservers.
- **Plays fair with registries.** At most 2-4 parallel requests per registry, extra spacing for registries that throttle quickly, and automatic slow-down and retry when a registry answers "429 Too Many Requests".

Each result has one of these statuses:

| status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `available` | Not registered. `verified: true` means the registry confirmed it; `verified: false` means DNS-only. |
| `registered` | Taken. Registrar and dates are filled when the registry was queried over RDAP; DNS-only results list the nameservers. |
| `reserved` | The registry lists the name as reserved. |
| `unknown` | The registry and DNS could not be reached; run the name again later. |

### Who uses it?

- **Founders, marketers and naming agencies** shortlisting brand names across .com, .io, .ai and other extensions.
- **Domain investors** screening large keyword lists before going to a registrar.
- **Agencies and product teams** checking campaign and product-launch domains in bulk.
- **Developers** adding an availability step to naming tools, chatbots or onboarding flows through the API.

### How to use it

1. Click **Try for free** (or **Start**).
2. Paste full domain names into **Domains to check**, and/or add **Keywords** plus the **Extensions** you care about.
3. Optionally add **Prefixes**, **Suffixes** and turn on **hyphenated variants**.
4. Turn on **Only save available domains** if you only want the free names (you then pay only for those).
5. Run it and filter the table by `status`.

### Input example

```json
{
  "domains": ["python.org", "shopify.com", "quietmaplebrook4821.com"],
  "keywords": ["green energy"],
  "tlds": ["com", "io", "ai", "co"],
  "prefixes": ["get"],
  "suffixes": ["hq"],
  "hyphenVariants": true,
  "onlyAvailable": false
}
```

### Output example

From a real run with the default input:

```json
{
  "domain": "shopify.com",
  "domainUnicode": "shopify.com",
  "status": "registered",
  "available": false,
  "verified": true,
  "checkMethod": "rdap",
  "note": null,
  "tld": "com",
  "keyword": null,
  "registrar": "MarkMonitor Inc.",
  "registrarIanaId": "292",
  "registrarUrl": "http://www.markmonitor.com",
  "createdDate": "2005-03-11T05:18:03Z",
  "updatedDate": "2025-09-02T23:41:32Z",
  "expiryDate": "2027-03-11T05:18:03Z",
  "domainAgeDays": 7903,
  "expiresInDays": 131,
  "domainStatus": ["client delete prohibited", "client transfer prohibited", "client update prohibited", "server delete prohibited", "server transfer prohibited", "server update prohibited"],
  "nameservers": ["gold.foundationdns.com", "gold.foundationdns.net", "gold.foundationdns.org"],
  "dnsDelegated": null,
  "rdapServer": "https://rdap.verisign.com/com/v1",
  "checkedAt": "2026-10-30T21:36:52Z"
}
```

```json
{
  "domain": "quietmaplebrook4821.com",
  "status": "available",
  "available": true,
  "verified": true,
  "checkMethod": "rdap+dns",
  "note": "Not found in the registry. Premium or registry-reserved names may still be priced differently or blocked at registrars.",
  "tld": "com",
  "dnsDelegated": false,
  "rdapServer": "https://rdap.verisign.com/com/v1",
  "checkedAt": "2026-10-30T21:36:52Z"
}
```

`keyword` shows which keyword produced a generated name. `checkMethod` is `rdap`, `rdap+dns` or `dns`.

### How much does it cost?

**$0.40 per 1,000 domains saved** ($0.0004 per domain), plus a $0.00005 start fee per run. With **Only save available domains** on, you pay only for the available names.

| You check | You pay |
|---|---|
| 250 brand ideas x 4 extensions (1,000 names) | $0.40 |
| 10,000 names | $4.00 |
| 10,000 names, only available saved (say 3,000) | $1.20 |

**Volume discounts on higher Apify plans.** The prices above are for the Apify Free plan. On paid plans the per-result price drops automatically: about 15% lower on Bronze, 25% lower on Silver and 38% lower on Gold and above.

### Use it via API, Make, Zapier, n8n or an AI agent

**Apify API.** Start a run and get the results back in one HTTP request (replace `YOUR_API_TOKEN` with the token from Apify Console > Settings > Integrations):

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/plotpointtech~bulk-domain-availability-checker/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_API_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"keywords": ["green energy"], "tlds": ["com", "io", "ai"], "onlyAvailable": true}'
```

For longer jobs, start the run asynchronously and read the dataset when it finishes. Official `apify-client` libraries exist for Python and JavaScript; the **API** tab on this page has ready-made code.

**No-code automation.** Connect the tool to **Make, Zapier, n8n, Google Sheets, Slack, Airtable** or any webhook with Apify integrations, and use **Schedules** in Apify Console to re-check a watch list daily or weekly.

**AI agents (MCP).** Give Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code or any MCP-compatible agent direct access to this tool through the hosted Apify MCP server. Add this server URL to your client:

```
https://mcp.apify.com?tools=plotpointtech/bulk-domain-availability-checker
```

The agent can then brainstorm names and check them in the same conversation.

### FAQ

**Is it legal to check domain availability this way?**
Yes. RDAP is the public lookup service registries run under their ICANN or national agreements, and DNS is public by design. The tool sends ordinary RDAP and DNS queries at a modest rate and backs off when asked. Registries' terms generally allow lookups made to decide whether to register a name; do not use the output for unsolicited marketing to registrants. The tool does not collect registrant personal data.

**How accurate is "available"?**
When `verified` is `true`, the registry itself has no record of the name and DNS agrees. DNS-only results are reliable for names that are in use. Some registries hold back premium or reserved names that do not appear in RDAP, so a registrar may still refuse a name or charge a premium price. When `verified` is `false` (DNS-only extensions), a registered name with no nameservers would look the same, so confirm at a registrar before relying on it.

**Which extensions are DNS-only?**
Those without a public RDAP service, for example .co, .de, .eu, .gg and several other country codes. Also .com, .net, .org, .io, .ai, .me and the other Identity Digital extensions when a run has more than 10 names for the same registry, because those registries' terms do not allow bulk automated RDAP queries. To get registry-verified answers and registration details for your final shortlist, run it again with 10 or fewer names per registry. The `note` field explains each result.

**Do you show prices or aftermarket listings?**
No. The tool reports registry status only. Check prices at your registrar.

**Why can a large run with .app or .dev take longer?**
Some registries allow only a few lookups per second. The tool slows down for that registry instead of failing, while other extensions keep going.

# Actor input Schema

## `domains` (type: `array`):

Full domain names, e.g. mybrand.com, mybrand.io. URLs and email addresses are accepted and reduced to the registrable domain. Leave empty if you only want to use keywords.

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Brand ideas or keywords. Each one is combined with every extension below, e.g. 'green energy' + com -> greenenergy.com. Spaces and punctuation are removed.

## `tlds` (type: `array`):

Extensions to combine with each keyword, without the dot: com, net, org, io, ai, co, app, dev, co.uk... Defaults to com, net, org, io, ai, co when keywords are given.

## `prefixes` (type: `array`):

Optional words to put in front of each keyword, e.g. get, try, my, the.

## `suffixes` (type: `array`):

Optional words to put after each keyword, e.g. app, hq, labs, online.

## `hyphenVariants` (type: `boolean`):

Also check hyphenated forms: green-energy.com, get-greenenergy.com, greenenergy-hq.com.

## `includePlainKeyword` (type: `boolean`):

Check the bare keyword (greenenergy.com) as well as the prefixed and suffixed forms. Turn off to check only the affixed forms.

## `onlyAvailable` (type: `boolean`):

Save only names that look available. Registered names are still checked but not saved, so you only pay for available results.

## `checkDns` (type: `boolean`):

Double-check names the registry reports as unregistered with a DNS nameserver lookup. Names without registry RDAP are always checked in DNS.

## `perRegistryConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many requests run at once against the same registry (1-4). Lower is gentler; the tool also slows down automatically when a registry asks it to.

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

Stop after saving this many domains.
