## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## OpenTable Reviews Scraper

Extract diner reviews from OpenTable restaurant pages: overall / food / service / ambience / value ratings, review text, diner nickname, dine date, and optional restaurant replies.

A real browser clears OpenTable’s bot protection; reviews are then pulled from the site’s structured review search API (paginated), not by fragile card scraping.

### Features

- Restaurant profile URLs (`/r/…`)
- Search result URLs — expands into restaurant profiles
- Sort: newest / highest / lowest rating
- Global review cap across the run
- Restaurant metadata (name, cuisine, address, aggregate ratings)

### Input

| Field | Type | Default | Description |
|-------|------|---------|-------------|
| `startUrls` | array | — | Restaurant and/or search URLs |
| `resultsWanted` | integer | `50` | Max reviews for the whole run (`results_wanted` alias supported) |
| `maxRestaurants` | integer | `10` | Cap restaurants opened from each search URL |
| `sortBy` | string | `newestReview` | `newestReview` / `highestRating` / `lowestRating` |
| `proxyConfiguration` | object | — | Residential proxy recommended |

#### Input example

```json
{
  "startUrls": [
    { "url": "https://www.opentable.com/r/bestia-los-angeles" }
  ],
  "resultsWanted": 30,
  "sortBy": "newestReview"
}
```

### Output

One dataset item per review:

| Field | Description |
|-------|-------------|
| `reviewId` / `text` / `type` | Review identity and body |
| `overall` / `food` / `service` / `ambience` / `value` / `noise` | Ratings |
| `nickname` / `dinerMetro` / `isVip` / `dinerReviewCount` | Diner |
| `submittedDateTime` / `dinedDateTime` | Timestamps |
| `restaurantReply` | Restaurant public reply (if any) |
| `restaurantId` / `restaurantName` / `restaurantUrl` | Restaurant |
| `aggregateOverall` / `reviewCount` | Restaurant aggregates |
| `photos` / `scrapedAt` | Media and provenance |

### Tips

- Start with a single restaurant URL and a small `resultsWanted` to validate proxies.
- OpenTable often blocks plain HTTP / datacenter IPs — use a **residential proxy** on Apify.
- Search pages only yield restaurants currently shown in the results list; raise `maxRestaurants` carefully.

# Actor input Schema

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

OpenTable restaurant profile URLs (/r/…) and/or search result URLs. Search pages expand into restaurant profiles automatically.

## `resultsWanted` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of reviews to collect across the whole run. Alias: results_wanted.

## `results_wanted` (type: `integer`):

Same as resultsWanted. Kept for compatibility with common input naming.

## `maxRestaurants` (type: `integer`):

When a start URL is a search page, cap how many restaurant profiles to open from that search.

## `sortBy` (type: `string`):

Review sort order used when paginating the restaurant review feed.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Optional Apify proxy. Residential proxies improve success against OpenTable bot checks.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "startUrls": [
    {
      "url": "https://www.opentable.com/r/bestia-los-angeles"
    }
  ],
  "resultsWanted": 50,
  "maxRestaurants": 10,
  "sortBy": "newestReview",
  "proxyConfiguration": {
    "useApifyProxy": true,
    "apifyProxyGroups": [
      "RESIDENTIAL"
    ],
    "apifyProxyCountry": "US"
  }
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `overview` (type: `string`):

Table view of reviews.

## `rawResults` (type: `string`):

All dataset items without a specific view.

// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});

// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "startUrls": [

};

// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("powerai/opentable-reviews-scraper").call(input);

// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
